She talked about her past heavy drug abuse and addiction which she went in recovery for and got out much better and healthier. I think the person she was dating also ended up having issues with the law. Might be why she believes in second chances and that people truly can change and become better people. I don't blame her since she's a prime example of it. She also did say that the person with a clean past of course would be preferable but that forgiveness is important and that a dark past isn't a dealbreaker.

Scenario 2: suppose her daughter is dating two guys and they are equal in every way and she can't choose between them. But one of them has a history of physical abuse but claims to be reformed, which would she want her daughter to choose?
