    Tail of the Dragon guy is "Yellow Wolf" and he rides a Goldwing 1800. I have a 2000 Goldwing 1500SE with progressive front and rear shocks. Yes, it does handle well. Yours has an intercom with front and rear speakers. The bags all open from a central opening spot under the top case in back. Great bikes. Mine has 133,000 miles on it and drinks NO oil between oil changes. I will keep my GW until at least 300,000 miles!!!

      On the 1500's.... do the timing belts.... then the general maintance stuff... tires, fluids, etc.

      @@travisgrover7163 As of Feb 2024, it is still flawlessly rolling down the road. The only thing that has went bad was a fuel gas petcock valve that was $50 or so. It took 20 minutes for me to replace it. Great bike.

    I just got home tonight with a "new" 50th anniversary edition.
    I'm EXHAUSTED!
    I have an INSANE story about how it came to be mine but...
    Let's just say, God TRULY works in mysterious and wonderful ways.
    To the staff at Mt. Rushmore, thank you for honoring and recognizing those of us who served, this July 4th.
    I never would have DREAMED of being there to see it.
    Thank you to those brothers and sisters we lost too.
    God's speed.

    One identical to this one fell into my lap this past summer except mine is a 1994. I bought it off an old retired guy for 4200.00 bucks. It was sitting in his front lawn with a for sale sign on it.It only had 31,000 miles on it. It only needs a tune up cause it idles rough. It’s been sitting ( garaged in retired guys garage) more than it’s been ridden. Goldwings don’t do well sitting in the garage for weeks or months or years.
    Mine guzzles clutch fluid for some reason I have to fill it once a month but other than that it’s a cream puff. I’m going to get it tuned up spark plugs changed and fix the clutch guzzling problem then really take a long road trip out of state on it.

    I have 2 goldwings. A black 92 model and a 99 model that looks exactly like this.
    The difference between the two are night and day in cornering and handling. Besides the 50the anniversary badge they look the same but in no way do they handle the same so I can believe you when you say that bike handles well.

    lasttime ilifted a 1990 GW off the stand it felt like I was lifting a freight train onto 2 wheels. The newer models have a lower center of gravity and are much easier to deal with at low speeds.

    I do wonder though,you make It sound like goldwings are a rarety in the states? Is the True because with the amount of them made It seems hard to believe. I recently bought my first bike, a Jinlun Highlander 125, and because of how the law works here im gonna need to wait for around 4 years to drive something as heavy as this. so I wanted to trade my Jinlun in for a 650 Dragstar classic,which Brings me to my Next point,is It a good idea to first drive choppers and then eventually getting this monster,or would you suggest different starter bikes

    • @mrRhwalden
      @mrRhwalden Před 7 lety +3

      gl1800 is not necessarily better. The 1500 needs less maintenance and for many riders it's more comfortable then the 1800. The 1800 is easier to change the rear tire, on the 1500 it's a pain.... Both are excellent bikes.

    • @reconnaisancesapper
      @reconnaisancesapper Před 7 lety

      Yes, you have a point; just from my own standpoint, I think that the 1800 is just a little better really.

    • @stephensheridan6332
      @stephensheridan6332 Před 6 lety +4

      the 1500 is more rock & roll, the 1800 lost that “cadilac” look. But if the 1500 ever became obsolete, i would still buy an 1800, any Goldwing is awesome.

    • @mrRhwalden
      @mrRhwalden Před 6 lety +1

      problem is, they don't fail.... My '82 has the stock air ride, front and rear, still works flawlessly.... same with my '89. It's really a non-issue... and if it ever does fail, it's pretty cheap and easy to fix.

    • @jennydiazvigneault5548
      @jennydiazvigneault5548 Před 7 lety +2

      Its a big heavy bike but the weight is all down low. I think whey they say light in corners, they are referring to how easy it is to roll left and right. It does have a lot of inertia in the corners. Mine weighs about 920 pounds empty.
