I love the anomaly that is the 1903-O. Of all the coins to actually seek out as a low-ball coin, it's that one.

Those striations in the 02 S look way too uniform to be generated by "cleaning". I would bet that the coin left the mint looking like that.

And they are "weaker" in the fields, which kind of makes sense if they were smashed down. The lines on the letters, for example, are really strong and sharp. 🤷‍♂️

Hi Ben. The lines on the 02 S are drawbench lines. They are not from cleaning, they are a type of planchet adjustment residual when the maker of the planchet is adjusting the blank strips to the correct thickness.

That metal of that 1902 was grooved on the planchet before it was struck.

Yesterday in Des Moines, Iowa I stopped at an LCS and found 7 Franklin half dollars and 3 liberty dollars with dark toning. Someone must have had strong sulfer in the air where they lived. I tell you this because you like toned coins. I don't know if you like black toning or only colorful toning. I love both. There's nothing special about them other than the dark toning but that's all that was needed for me to take them home with me. 100% eye appeal.

I generally agree with your position that if one wants graded coins, one should but graded coins. However, if one collects older European coins, one usually has to buy them raw since it seems that many European collectors and dealers apparently loathe graded coins. (Although graded coins always sell for more at auction - even in Europe.) I don’t know if this is a financial or cultural issue.

That’s some of the most prominent die straie I’ve ever seen on any date Morgan Dollar. However the coin was, indeed, cleaned by someone after leaving the mint, and it’s definitely not an uncirculated piece, despite NGC saying that it is. ⚾️⚾️⚾️

If it were striations, there would be NO lines on the breast because its one of the highest points on the strike. Just my opinion.

That 02-S is very intriguing. If those are cleaning lines, then someone has a much steadier hand than me. I'd be interested to see what an error expert might have to say about it. Or maybe even three experts, who would undoubtedly have three differing opinions. Haha

Well… maybe those striations aren’t what they determined to be an indication that the coin was cleaned. In other words, they may be calling it cleaning for a reason that has nothing to do with those striations.

I just cleaned out my grandparents house. My Grandpa must have been a coin collector cause we found old coins stashed in bags everywhere. I stumbled upon your video because I have about 12 Morgan Silver dollars and I’m trying to figure out roughly what they’re worth on the collators market. I know absolutely nothing about coins of any kind, besides how to count change back to someone lol! But I do have a 1903 7TF Morgan silver dollar definitely in circulated condition with no mint mark on the back. Do I need to do something special (get it certificates) in order to sell it?

  • @louissica4647

I *think* all the MS 1903 O's were actually found in a bank vault and not a private hoard. Not sure tho....

    • @louissica4647
      @louissica4647 Před měsícem

Actually it seems the bags were actually stored at the Philadelphia Mint! PCGS Coinfacts tells the story of just how INSANELY rare that MS 03-Os were before those bags were released, and how that release turned the market for those upside down. Not to mention how people lost their shirts buying what they thought was an ultra rare coin that just wasn't any more because in the days before Internet or even weekly price guides information like that just didn't reach a number of buyers before it was too late

Can't watch videos, like this, whining and complaining about the grade received on a coin from PCGS or NGC. NGC and PCGS do not care about your coins !!! These two entities are name only of the original entities they started out as... They are now owned by large corporations and/ or mega-wall street hedge funds that only care about the monies they generate. In my opinion; the only grading services that care anything about your coins are ANACS and CACG.

  • @-BigMike-
    @-BigMike- Před měsícem

These TPGs require their "graders" to grade too many coins per day. I guarantee you that you spent more time showing these coins than they did grading them. Especially being from NGC. They're notorious (in the coin grading community) for pushing employees to grade too many coins per day. Faster and faster and faster, more and more and more.
The prices they charge, the consumers deserve to have the best graders spend however long it takes to come to a conclusive grade (or as close to conclusive as a subjective number can be) but I know within seconds they'll mark a coin as cleaned without double checking or looking deeper.
Crack-out that 78 S because that coin is not a details coin.
I've seen a 1916 SLQ get detailed by NGC, cracked-out, dipped and sent to PCGS. Came back ms64fh.
You're better at grading than 75% of the "professionals". In quotations because they'll hire anyone to grade coins. Their training is laughable and they're grading shows it.
