    Father, sometimes it is hard to stay full of joy when you deal with the day to day workings of the church that are not working...Thanks for your encouraging words and I hope and pray that the new church takes them to heart...I do need to pray if I want to see things change, so I am going to get to it...God bless you!

    Well done as always Fr. Robert Barron. Your undertakings are truly a blessing from the Lord. I sometimes find myself just directing people to your videos because of your clear and reasonable explanations. I very much agree with all of the points you made for future clergy. I think most if not all can be applied to anyone wishing to help re-evangelize those who've strayed, back into the beautiful richness of their Catholic heritage, and planting the seeds for those who are misinformed or unacquainted with the Church. God Bless you Fr. Barron.

    It would make a world of difference to me if my local parish priest sought me out for one-on-one conversation.
    It may not be possible to reach every person this way, but they could reach very many.

    To Norm & Bonnie.
    I hope you two don't mind but I have read your conversation.
    (I felt like I was eavesdropping on a personal conversion.) I hope you don't mind my chiming in now.
    All I would like to say is thank you to the both of you. Your conversation was so honest and polite. I cannot remember the last time I ever "saw/heard/read" an internet conversation between strangers who had different points of views, that was so kind and respectful.
    Bonnie, so you know, I am Catholic. I enjoyed reading your thoughts and questions. I admire how much thought you have put into your opinions. I was able to understand why you were thinking what you were thinking.
    And Norm, your responses were very helpful to me. I couldn't have said anything better myself. You are a better catacised (I think I asked that wrong) Catholic than I my friend. I could feel /connect with every response.
    There was a moment during your conversation that I stopped reading bc I had to chuckle, got teary eyed, a little emotional. All in a good way. Bonnie, it was all for you. I thought to myself about how close you are to the truth and how you just couldn't see it. I felt your struggle. How every question, if answered, only lead to 10 more questions. I could see/feel how you seek out answers but only seem to find a dead end.
    Correct me if I'm wrong, and I mean no offense, but from the outside, it appears as though you want to believe. As if a little part of you wants to see that miracle or wants that 100% undeniable fact. But if it's not exactly spot on, then it's all wrong. Again, I hope I did not offend you by my opinion. But I would like to ask you, what if. What if you did believe? Then what? What would that mean? How would that affect you? What would your life be like?
    Personally, I have enjoyed the mental exercise that your conversation has brought me. Every question makes me think and then reinforces my belief in God. God is love, nothing is beyond His ability and He loves me more than I could ever understand.
    Questioning is never wrong. It's when we stop looking for Him that wrong happens.
    Best wishes and prayers for both of you.

    Bishop I had and still have authority figures that bully me, have punished me in anger, so I was fearful of The Lord being that way too. So when you said in Google God about punishment, my associations are with people and I have been sad most of my life thinking that God didnt love me letting the deceived authority figures hurt me. But now that the holy spirit is brought to remembrance everything that Jesus has taught me, I have the understanding that the devil is a liar and we battle not against flesh and blood but against the principalities of Darkness and when we pray we can learn discernment from the Holy Spirit to help and guide us in all righteousness. I am blessed to have been taught these things by the Lord put around people who also love the Lord to hopefully present the answer to theodicy for God's glory so that all people may come to know how much he loves us and to come into an intimate relationship with him so I am to love my enemies by demonstrating the love that the Lord has for me so that they will learn and understand who he is and how he desires a relationship with each person Jesus dying on the cross to keep us in the family of God. thank you so much for preaching the gospel to let us draw into the light...🔥😇🙏🎶🍞 closer to Him!💖🌹🌟🍷🌎

    Father Barron, powerful and eloquently put. I was wondering what your thoughts were on the Tridentine Mass? After several decades as a fallen away Catholic....I found my way back. I recently changed parishes because of finding a more traditional mass...and they offer a latin mass. Also, I miss the beauty of the old churches.
    Moreover, I would have welcomed two priests taking the time to come and talk to me. Many people complain the priests and bishops are too standoffish and need to reach out. Sometimes we get caught up in our hectic lives....or feel a sense of not belonging/nobody cares whether we attend mass or not. I see so many elderly/sick/homebound that desperately want and need to talk to a priest and receive communion each week. Not by lay people. God Bless You!

    Amazing. Thank you, Your Excellency. I wasn't so into the idea of evangelization, I think it has kind of a bad rap, but you've shed a new light on it, and inspired me to take a course in Evangelization offered here in LA with the Southern California Charismatic Conference. I'm excited for it now!

    Wow! That was a wisdom-packed video!!
    One group that really needs convincing that God is not the "bully in the sky" is the increasing number of divorced Catholics. How does a parish keep them spiritually informed and in the pews?

  • @JRLeeman
    @JRLeeman Před 10 lety +1

    Father - As much as I would be quite willing to debate religion with someone in an academic framework, perhaps with the goal of persuasion, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with "door to door" Catholicism, or harassment. Obviously, it's important to establish a point of contention for the Church, but I would imagine it intrenches people if you literally bring and ideology to their door. I suppose it would be better with your students - you've a very Academic approach which persuaded me, initially an agnostic, but there's quite a lot of bad and illogical ministry, especially from Protestant denominations.

    When Pope St. John Paul II announced "a New Evangelization" its these kind of people that he had in mind that Father Barron is talking about. I've found that people leave the Catholic faith, or become heretical, or schismatic, because it hasn't properly been explained to them. If people knew that at every Mass that "Heaven meets Earth" in celebration of the Holy Eucharist, they wouldn't miss it. We have a great model for the Church, and Christian living in Our Lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary. Finally, Father is right to stress the importance of prayer, especially the Rosary. The last I would say is the beautiful gift the Sacrament of Penance. "The Cure of Ars" St. John-Maria Vianney, converted 250,000 people in his day through his simple witness as a confessor, and his confessional.

    Jesus pretty clearly taught his disciples _not_ to go door to door, in Luke 10.

      @denisemcmaster973 Před 3 lety

      What Bible are you reading from? I read and re-read Luke 10 and only see that the disciples are told not to keep STAYING in different houses. Everything else is about sending them about--two by two--to go to everyone's door.

    Father I have a few questions one I attended my first mass and it was not what I expected I expected some preaching but instead it was singing and receiving communion that was it. I didn't really feel close to God after the mass. They did talk for a little it was about Mother Theresa which was good and all but they spun it into donating money to the church which I understand is necessary but they spent a good amount of time on donations instead of what Theresa did. Also after the euachrist people left even the the priest was still at singing the hymns with the band which I thought was weird. Now I have a couple of theological questions .... Why does God command the death of gays I understand homosexuality not being right but the death is kinda far and also why does he comman war and slavery PLEASE a respond also I'm from the Chicagoland area so I could attend a service of yours right?

    • @sshealy1
      @sshealy1 Před 10 lety

      When you say "God commands the death of gays", are you talking about Sodom and Gomorrah in the Old Testament? That city was destroyed under special circumstances. God loves the gay person and hopes that he/she puts their faith and trust in God as much as the straight person. Remember that God sees the heart not just the outside. Prayer and finding the right friends who are directed towards the good and virtuous is a right step.

    • @erikkreis4473
      @erikkreis4473 Před 5 lety

      We are given free will. God does not impose Himself. We pray because Jesus told us to pray. To ask and it will be given. To knock and it will be opened. Prayer is a "yes" to God's will.

    Catholic means universal. Apostolic means evangelizing. The problem isn't that no one wants to go to church the problem is Catholicism uses words that are too cryptic for common people to understand.

    • @christophermartin8685
      @christophermartin8685 Před 10 lety

      Our Mother Church does, and has always given to Gods flock accordingly. There are mystical and philosophical writings for those that need that type of thing, and there are simple and approachable explanations for those who prefer that. The church is very accessible to ALL, not matter what your station or educational background. Just look at the predominant cultures that are very catholic...Spanish, Irish, German, Mexican, African, etc. . they are very much the salt of the earth people. As a Mexican myself I feel our faith courses through my veins.

    • @kimcheewee4
      @kimcheewee4 Před 10 lety

      Christopher Martin I've found that 'salt of the Earth' people never had a culture worth saving to start with. Selling their souls to the Roman religion is not worth complaining about because they never had any pride in their history to start with.

    Any chance we can think of a better metaphor than shepherds & sheep? A shepherd guards and cares for his flock but not because he loves them. He does it so he can fleece them and eat them. Does that not creep you out? Then there's the fact that sheep are pretty stupid even for cattle. The fishers of men metaphor is even worse.

    • @christophermartin8685
      @christophermartin8685 Před 10 lety +1

      That is kind of the point. To abandon everything to our Divine Shepard --- God. The metaphor has nothing to do with the consumption of farm animals. lol
