PUPPY A FUSSY EATER: How to get a picky dog to eat food based on experience with a fussy cockapoo

  • Since the day Millie came home she's been a fussy eater. It's been 8 months of trial and error but I've finally figured out how to know if she's been picky or if she doesn't like her food. Cockapoo's a breed known for being fussy eaters, the same as cavapoos and many other poodle crosses. If you've got a picky eater on your hands. A pup who will not eat unless you add gravy or chicken, then this video is for you!

    Millie is an F1 Cockapoo, her mother is a Cocker Spaniel and her father a Miniature Poodle.

    I found with my Cockapoo that she wouldn’t eat kibble in her bowl but loved it if I scattered it around the house as she thought it was a game. So she ate the full amount,. I have wooden floors though so it is easier.

      That’s great advice, I tried that with Millie as well but it didn’t work. Some dogs don’t like their bowls if they move as well.

      I've had my Cavapoo for 3 days now and he doesn't eat much... He'll eat from my hand and off the floor but not much.
      I tried gravy and he ate a lil more, tried wet food he didn't even touch it 😂
      I added warm water to the kibble to soften it up and he at a good amount out of the bowl. Hopefully this works going forward.

    My dogs have never eaten canned dog food of any variety. I cook for him every few day becuse he wont eat frozen food that been defrosted. Its aways organic mainly prime rib or samon or chicken. With vegetables and brown rice. He does eat dry food but l have to get it from the vet. And l bake his treats myself. And only give him purified water. Worth every cent. If l had to l would live on beans and rice. Too.keep feeding him the way he likes😊

    We have started doing This yesterday and it's funny how u made a video on it our dog didn't eat dinner the day and then never ate breakfast and by the dinner the next day she ate most of it and today she hasn't are breakfast but we are being consistent even though it's hard and what happened to Millie when she came home is the exact story that happened to us she wasn't eating at the breeders either we think

      Keep up with it, I know it’s hard not seeing them eat but they will give in eventually. If it carries in for a couple of week them only eating every few days then maybe still look at swapping. Good luck!

      Hi, I get them directly from Tribal. I think pets corner does also stock them but I’m not 100% sure.

    Wow same thing is happening with us. Puppy won’t eat. Well as per your advice I’m not gonna give him any treats for a little while.he started throwing up 2 weeks ago in the mornings and his vet said it could be too much time between his last meal of the day and then next day morning meal. I started giving him treats in the mornings as I take him out fir his business and he stopped throwing up in the mornings but also stopped eating his normal food in a little while. As long he doesn’t have any medical problem I’ll try to figure out his favourite foods too but I’m gonna leave his food there for 15 minutes and then take it away.

      Hopefully your pup has started eating again. You could also try giving his daily food allowance over more meals. When they are small some pups prefer to have 3 or 4 meals a day. Then when they turn 6 months, reduce it to 2 meals.

      @@MillieaCockapoo hi Jasmine! He is still being fussy about eating. I took him to vet Cz sometime he would throw up in the morning before he eats. Vet put him on a proscription diet. He ate that for 1 and a half day and then refusing to eat but his vet did say to feed him 4 times a day instead of 3. I’m gonna see how he does with his new food and then try to figure out what to do next. Thank you so much for replying! God bless!

      @@MillieaCockapoo thanks Jasmine! My puppy is all good now but I had to do same thing what you had to do for Millie! Soak his kibbles and mix them with some wet food and some different flavoured gravies. I figured he is also a picky eater! I’m happy that he eats now though! Thanks always for your videos!

    If a dog is hungry it WILL EAT dogs are smart and will not starve themselves but they know how to take advantage of their stupid owners

    • @MillieaCockapoo
      @MillieaCockapoo  Před 3 lety

      That is why my vet advised that they can go up to 3 days without eating and to just be persistent but not leave the food down all the time. If they go longer than 3 days, then it’s unhealthy and normally a sign that something else could be wrong.

    • @lilyadam7318
      @lilyadam7318 Před 3 lety

      @@MillieaCockapoo yes the vet is right there might be a medical condition but you were not talking about a medical condition you were talking about pandering to your dog as in a “ fussy eater “as I said the smart dog will take advantage of a stupid owner

    • @MillieaCockapoo
      @MillieaCockapoo  Před 3 lety

      But there’s no way of your knowing if they’re actually being fussy or have a medical problem if you don’t be persistent and keep giving them the same food. As I said in the video, most dogs who are being fussy will give in during the 3 day period and eat. If they aren’t given a better option or give in to puppy dog eyes.

      @@MillieaCockapoo of course there is a way of finding out if they have a medical condition TAKE IT TO THE VET if you are worried

    • @MillieaCockapoo
      @MillieaCockapoo  Před 3 lety +4

      Before you take your dog to the vet for not eating, most people will want to have tried to make sure their pup isn’t just being fussy and testing them.
