I got a whole tailored wardrobe from Hoi An in the early 90s. The clothes were beautifully fitted, cut and finished. I paid about US$250 to $300 for 7 pieces
The green dress came out so cute! You could tell when you tried it on the first time you didn’t like it..but the second time it looked so good! And definitely flattered you!

I knew a girl who lived in Vietnam and all her clothes came from tailors I thought that was amazing. To have clothes that are literally made for you. It would be hard to just buy clothes in a retail store again.
🙄 ^Well Kate, she can’t go back to 1940, she can only go to present day Vietnam…istg people can’t let any culture have anything without inserting white culture into every conversation where it doesn’t belong. 🥱

That was my parent's generation in Vietnam and that's how they grew up. There were no shopping malls or Made in China fast fashion back then. Everything was hand made and tailored and my mom still has that mindset and refuses to shop in malls.
You can do exactly this in every country in Africa. The Kenyan tailors are a hit or miss though, but if you're ever around here getting a leso skirt (I'd advice a maxi skirt with the idioms on display) and he can get a kanzu top in white linen (or leso too).
@@availanila Yes they do ! You also mentioned kanzus : Comorian men wear them too. It's so cool to see how we have things in common 😊 My mom even had a conversation with a Kenyan guy on a plane : they could understand each other since Comorian is basically just a dialect of the Swahili language.
@@madamebelle-I was local and paid around $100 for an outfit (top and bottom), material not included , in HCMC when I was still in VN 8 years ago. I think $72 is a good price in 2024.

She looked fine in the square after it got tailored a bit more in the clip just before it switched to halter footage. It looked supported. But didn't showcase the girls as well as the halter did. The brown strapless was the real risk I think. It came down to personal preference. Eitherway she looks lovely in all of them.
For all of that work-I would have paid her extra. With such a short turn around as well. I’m sure it would mean a lot to her also. That’s is just how me and my husband are, I would personally feel guilty not tipping a bit more when I’m saving so much for custom clothing already.
That's a personal preference, not a must or something to feel guilty about 😊 . Tipping is not common everywhere, of course feel free to do it but it's really not necessary or anything to feel guilty about 👍 . In some places/for some people it can even be considered offensive, as people are just doing their job and see the tip as a charity or handout 😅
Hoi An is a lovely city with lovely people. I met a lot of local friends there and had some slammer nights out as well as ate good food. The centre is so pretty by the river and there are so many tailors you just have to search around for the best price. A bit more expensive than the rest of Vietnam but still great prices with great business owners
Wow! I was there something like 32 years ago and all there was there at the time were a handful of ladies on a street, a few bolts of cloth and some dusty old sewing machines. Looks so fancy now. Had a shirt made. Awesome.
@@main2333 yeah that’s true but it would be awesome for the clothes to actually fit me correctly, and it’s such a unique experience! It would be fun to gift this to people!

Vietnam is so UNDERRATED in every single way!! The food! The indigenous fruits are from another planet! But the most important thing is THEIR PEOPLE ARE AMAZINGLY FRIENDLY!!! I’ve only visited 9 times, 8 to 14 days per visit and I adore it!!!
i did this with my family when i was a little kid, we’ve been talking about going back for ages. this was really cool to see, brought back some memories ❤
It would really depend on the specifics, I can vary drastically like 1 hour for a basic mini dress to 3 weeks for a very detailed formal gown. Or 6 months for haute couture! lol
I literally gasped when I saw the green dress on you, the color and the shape fit you perfectly!! What a thing to say, that you got a piece of clothing designed and made specifically for you!! if you don't have a convenient access to developing countries for cheap tailors, an alternative is getting something from the rack and then get it adjusted at a tailor.
People have to realize, most small companies that are run by old ladies and gents are just parents trying to survive. They are and will do their best for their customers. It might be a bit pricey, but their quality is way better and u can always design how you want if ure just a nice person.
The price is a little bit more expensive than tailored dress in Indonesia, but the speed is awesome! Here, we can only get custom clothes in after a week. Some even take months to get 😅
