I was able to do this early game with Beech colliding into Birch to get logs I didn't have access to at the time. also, use your troll armor to explore, you get a sneak bonus and if you have abyssal knife, you can press middle mouse button during a sneak to do a jump attack to do massive damage, enough to kill a troll.

To avoid burning yourself on a campfire, build a square from the 2m log beams or wooden half-walls and place the campfire in the middle. This blocks you from getting to close to the fire, but still gives acces to cooking and refueling. if you have a fireplace setup indoors, a single log beam at the bottom will do the trick.
When gathering plants, mushrooms and berries, go to settings and turn vegetation to low. This removes alot of undergrowth and makes resources much more visible

pertaining to upgrading gear: when it comes to sharing resources with others on a shared map, especially if you have your resources pooled together, it's usually a good idea to upgrade with the stuff you gathered personally. most people won't begrudge you using the resources to make yourself gear at the new tier, but if you've never even been to the swamp and you've used 120 iron (and all the other mats that go into it) to make yourself a level 4 iron sledge, people might get salty. this goes for food and other consumables too. if you've never even picked up a cultivator, don't just take stacks of turnip and carrot soup (or fish wraps, or the other high tier stuff) from the food chests. learn how to make the stuff and if you take a stack of a type of food, at least make sure you place the mats for that item into a material box for the others that are with you. or here's my favorite. if you find a box with 8 full stacks of iron ingots and 2 stacks of chain in it, don't grab all that iron and chain and take it to another server and then wonder why the people from the server you took it from are unhappy. dunno, maybe that kind of stuff belongs in a manners vid.

1- you can stack wood and stone by letting them clip one in the other just a pixel away and have WAAAAAAAAAAY more then 10 stacks one in another.
2- Natural resources which are not rocks do regenerate over time. falln branches will reappear as well as berries and flint and rocks.
3- chests clips slightly one in the other, this makes you save space if you can clip them well
4- you can stack up to 6 roasters on a bonfire if you're accurate..
5- switching weapons according to enemies makes you carry more weight but also be more prepared. A bardache against a lot of smaller enermie makes you save stamina due the great AOE attack while weapon and shield are good against single enemies.
6- water trenches are your best friend and worst nightmare; if you want to make one, be sure to not fall in it.
7- palisades can host platforms which allows you to shoot from above
8- the totems are gold. With the totem a wooden structure can take up to 4 troll log atttacks without falling down to pieces, without you just lose the house in one hit.
9- seadragons can be brought onto land to be hunted easily but tends to return into water once de-harpooned. To prevent this and their free just drag them in a pond high enuogh for them to swim into and they'll go tho the next water spot which is namely the pond.
10- may be obvious but: never, NEVER, *NEVER* be without the well rested buff. You won't be able to flee or to attack. During night with cold means nearly certain death.
    Glad to help ;)

Best tip I've picked up: You can place floor panels ahead of you by placing a panel over the corner of the one you're on and moving the cursor forward - the next panel will snap to the panel below. I haven't tested it with beams, but I bet it would work there, too.
Best tip I've discovered: Wood and stone piles will clip into each other, so each additional pile takes up 1/3 the space of the first one, which looks a lot better than individual piles, too (expensive decoration).
Likely to be patched: You can place a campfire indoors on top of two dropped pieces of core wood. (c/o FireSpark81 on YT)
Personal preference: Carts make a great dump chest near the entrance of your base.
Biggest "Duh!" moment: Right click tools in your inventory to equip them. You kind of threw off as a side note that you can use tools from inventory, but I was swapping them in and out of the hotbar until about game day 200. I don't know why I assumed they were different from armor and food. You can also right click food and potions straight from chests.

Then take 16 copper and 2 bronze with you (plus portal ingredients of course) on your ship to find a swamp and do all iron mining, weapon making, upgrades, etc. again on site. (Or if you find a site between both biomes with plenty of Sunken Tombs...) You can teleport everything else in and you only need one ship back to 'home base' IF you want to have a set up there too (otherwise its more for building material and stone cutting table.) Leave one of them always named the same. This is your return portal.
Rename the second one to where you want to go. This is your exit portal.
I currently have a variable portal and my Alpha portal at home and I have my Beta - Juliet portals at places I've visited.
The reason this is useful is so you always have a way back home - eg. If you go through your portal and then create a second portal a way off from there. You won't be able to link to a linked portal.

I always keep an open portal in my base just for this.

Don't waste time with bronze armor.
Each item of Bronze armor starts at 8 and upgrades to 14, for 23 bronze (that's 46 copper and 23 tin!) in all (crafting and upgrades).
But the Trollskin a step below it starts at 6 and upgrades to 12, and for that 2 points less (6 in all) , you just use troll hides that you'll be finding much more than you need of anyway.
Also, don't automatically jump to the next tier. If you have your bronze mace and buckler, for example, fully upgraded, then the mace does 53 damage and the shield blocks 55 with 30 Parry force. The Iron Mace does 55 damage, and the banded shield blocks 60 with 40 parry force. And it's actually worse than that--every item has Durability starting at 200 and going up as you upgrade it, so your iron mace and shield will wear out faster, and for Bronze-to-Iron in particular the buckler gives a x2 parry bonus while the banded iron gives x1.5--so when parrying, your basic bronze buckler already matches your basic banded shield; if you upgraded your buckler, the iron is worse.
Armor is even worse: basically, the fully-upgraded armor of each tier (not counting trollskin) matches the basic armor of the next tier. So if your armor is maxxed out, you don't get anything from the new armor until you can upgrade it... except weight.

I use an iron chest because it looks badass. I use no other movement inhibitor, I like my characters looking good, and with shields.... armor is not absolutely vital....

You can easily level up swimming in sunken crypts. Just find a flooded portion and autorun/swim until stamina is low get out of the water and let stamina come back up, repeat.

If you are a PC player and don't use the Q (auto-run) go to settings and change map which is m to Q. Its closer and in my opinion its a better set-up for the keyboard layout

Mountain tip: mountain mobs will target your campfires, so if you're using them to keep warm before you have the mead or frost resist armor, be ready to run to another one or make more.

Basic wood is super plentiful. If you travel through an area regularly go ahead and make a shack with a bench and fire. May not seem like a big deal, but gives you a rest station to repair tools and dry off. Don't go overboard with resources, stick to basic wood and stone on this rest stations.

A lot of clips could have used better lighting. The wall of chests was basically a black wall with faint metallic rings on the front. You even had standing torches right in front of them, but apparently couldn't be bothered to stick some resin in them to make the chests more visible.

if you dont have enough sturling cores to make a kiln and smelter. just make a kiln create coal, then break the kiln youll get you cores back and now u can make a smelter. rotate as required.

Or spend 15 minutes looking for another cave and get more cores haha. Seems like a waste of time going through that, instead of just getting the cores.

"frost resistance food" do you have to set fire to yourself, can see the point in doing so, and the food does not get frozen but I always loses HP.
