- I was just about to leave this location already, because I thought that there is now way for an airplane to land during these stormy weather conditions.
But just a few seconds later I noticed the Ilyushin was already on the ILS and I started filming this nice crossstorm landing. The only thing I can say is: Russian Pilot skills !!!

What a beast pilot and plane, it looks to be 20-40 degrees of angle of the runway ....even after touchdown! Incredible
The aircraft is a tough its a mechanical beast. The pilots did a gr8 job in pretty awful . conditions you can see how windy it was even after touchdown and the aircraft is buffeted on the runway. Nice closeup at the end.
Very easy: this ilushin becomes heavy like an iron if you turn off the engines. They turned off, sat down, and then turned on again to move on.
@@sesk3613 Are you seriously!?)))) Are you familiar with aviation just a little bit?
@@joaquine1983 I familiar only with irons.
How strong were the winds that day, that was some serious crosswind
Good Job to the cockpit crew.
salute Russians - you people know to stand your ground despite ground breaking adversity ..........super skills and piloting spirit.
You are talking bull $@&!?:
Every commercial pilot can do this.
Standard landing.
The crew really did their job.A challenge that would test the best of pilots was handled in a truly professional way.Well done guys.
Insane! Some mad skills, beautiful
Plane sounds amazing
Pilots are pilots whatever language they happen to speak, be it Russian, Portuguese, English or whatever. Any pilot worth hist salt can land his airplane in crosswinds, it's just another day at the office. The title should be, "Camera shaking more than the airplane in the wind".
LOL!
@ Corisco...Don't agree with you; when not in normal or standard weather conditions, it's not piece of cake to land such a plane, even more if loaded. I'd be glad them to read your words and get their opinions. If you could see how they fight with the controls to fly her at the final, you wouldn't consider it as "another day at the office" job. By the way the pilots here are skilled and very good.
@112536001596163575138 - I respectfully also disagree with you. I have flown many different types of aircraft and have landed countless times in less than ideal conditions, but such is the job of flying. Visibility may be poor, there may be wind and/or turbulence, but provided the weather is within limits, landing *is* another day at the office. Please note - I didn't say it is a "piece of cake". Landings, however a "handful" they may be, are just that: another day at the office, and that is what we are trained to do. Passengers' opinions may differ, of course.
russians................. MASTERS OF ROUGH CONDITIONS..............
russians are better at non flying conditions
The left wing was not far from the ground at 1:24 ! Great pilot and nice landing on bad conditions (wet runway, strong crosswind)
It's good that it's got that huge row of short, reinforced landing gear. Otherwise it might have taken damage there.
приземлился - как примагнитился)
респект и уважуха экипажу!
Сел как сел,ничего нового.

That dude landed like he has a date with a supermodel that night. "I'M COMING, BABY, I'M GOING TO LAND!"
The pilot's skills are a lot better than the cameraman's.
What an obvious statement
Jason Cavitt well a cameraman isn’t a pilot duh
Until you appreciate the reason why the camera is so shaky is because of the weather .. it takes some commitment to go out and film this in shitty conditions.
@@ahm_767 still doesn't void the fact that I'm dizzy and vomiting now from watching this video.
@@WayPastCrazy2525 You might want to see a doctor about that then.
WOW! Much respect to the skill of the men.
Il-76 the best!!!
Oh, baby!! I'll fly with these guys any time.
Oh really? Will ya pay for the new tires after that sideways landing? You know what the difference between a tractor drivers normal runway, and his crosswind runways is?
The normal runway is 8000 feet long and 150 feet wide, while his crosswind runway is 150 feet long and 8000 feet wide.
None of these jerks could do a side-slipping landing to save their own or their airplanes life.
Wow, great landing!
Браво. Мастерству этих пилотов аплодирую стоя. Молодцы. При таком ветре сумели приземлиться. Glory Russian pilots
Это их работа,а не героизм
При таком сильном боковом ветре посадили Ил-76, как по маслу ! Браво нашим лётчикам - они просто ассы !!! Просто невероятно ! :о)
Unbelievable camera skills!
Excellent pilot and exceptional “piece” of Russian engineering! Thanks!!
That was a nearly 45 degree- angle and nonetheless a buttersmooth landing. Wow!
When you have to look out the side window to see the runway...
Командир заслуживает уважения по уровню мастерства,и готовности взять ответственность,хотя подозреваю,что для большинства лайнеров этот аэродром был закрыт
I've seen C-5s do this a few times, they have the same kind of crab gears. Its amazing to watch
What people seem to forget is that most russian pilots are military trained, and they are the best in the world bar none..
You are mistaken ... Just pilots in Russia prepare better. I was in Russia in the summer school, then I saw how to prepare pilots in other countries ...
Pilots are taught in Russian to fly on an airplane, not to control it. It's a big difference.
Therefore, flight schools have a saying in Russia: "The Russian pilot should be able to easily fly all that is able to fly, and with only minor difficulties and be able to fly on that can not fly in principle"
Пилот ас!
nice and regular flying skills.. if you cant do that stay out of the cockpit!
Very good landing, although the IL-76 has a really good landing gear very stable too. My brother used to be the Pilot of a Cuban IL-76 and he told me that to land this plane wasn't as hard as other landings in other planes like the IL-62M,ect.
Damn fine cameraq work, considering the conditions! What a truly awesome aircraft, with an excellently trained pilot. I have never seen this plane before. It appears to have amazing lifting power. Must carry a hell of a lot of cargo.
Thanks for this video!
Красава! Ни кто не сомневался...
Oh, that sound, i love it. Every week they flying above my house. And TU-142 & TU-95 too.
The man is doing his job like a pro! Greetings and respect from a fellow aviator.
At first when I heart the turbines spool up again I thought he was going to do a touch and go & do it all again for fun ;)
@redline8225 the two hardest parts of flying are the areas of greatest stress and power application, namely, rotation and lift off on take off and the flare before the wheels touch at landing. This guy did a excellent approach considering the conditions, got it down and stayed on the runway. These a/c had a high degree of STOL capabilities which naturally makes for more lift at slower speeds, but with that comes less stability. I've landed Twin Otters in high crosswind areas and, it's not easy
Even so he's still skidding down the runway with his nose towards the wind... hoping not to be hit by a sudden gust like Lufthansa flight LH044 @ Hamburg. Also, If you look closely you'll see him kicking the rudder to both sides as he fights to get all the wheels on the ground. Hand down one of the best x-wind landings on video! Thanks for uploading.
What a sound at 2:04-
Shams Islam реверс тяги двигателей, используется для значительного снижения скорости самолета.
The reverse - a device for creating reverse thrust.
Nothing like that shriek @2:03 when he backs out of the thrust reversers. 'Soloviev Symphony', indeed.
Great landing. That should take lots of practice.
man, crab from hell on that approach. Nicely done rudder kick before touchdown!
It always looks unnatural when a plane seems to be "crossways" to the flightpath. For the pilots this kinda landings are not unusual. There are some airports in the world which nearly always have crosswind conditions like Madeira (LPMA; FNC) for example. I once spottet there and on a windy day all jet´s coming in are looking like this on the final approach. Amazing ! But nevertheless the pilots here did a good job !
I live near this airbase just across the border in The Netherlands.
The IL-76 and also the AN-124 are regular visitors to Geilenkirchen.
The funny thing is that at Maastricht-Aachen airport just 10km from Geilenkirchen the IL-76 was banned in the mid '90s (as from other public airports in The Netherlands) because they are to noisy (as is the E3-A which are stationed at Geilenkirchen)
But the Russians have the only cargoplanes bigger than a C-130 that can land on dirt strips and can be hired.
Amazing! Great landing captain! :) The pilot was not the onlyone who had problems with the storm... ;) Very nice!
Really amazing side away approach until the touch down, Bravo ! !
Amazing vid of an amazing aircraft -made the landing look easy and posed for the camera !
The pilot and crew are brave men or women. Of course they come from a country where pilots and crews probably have to do this a lot more often then they would like, especially on the polar bear routes of Siberia. Only a Korean or American military crew would even do this in this day of mandatory ILS suto landing. We have more in common with Russians than we know, according to a German engineer friend who has worked both sides.
And don't forget the Soviet credo since WWII - "Dere eez nohding ju can build in dah Vest vich vee cannot atteempt to copy undt make muchd beeger!" ("Ok, so vee nodt do so goot on Concordski undt Booran...")
is ok tovarish, in motherland we drive sideways too ))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Russian pilots are very well trained to fly with balls skills and instincts. While others using useless procedures and gadgets.
stupid comment by non pilot alert
His actually right. Russian pilots are actually trained to fly with courage and instincts, there is a reason why Russian planes arent as advance as the Western ones. In addition, Russian planes do not crash as often as compared to the Western ones per capita.
+Rex Timothy Ang Many would say that's because Russia has around 2000 planes, and US around 8000, but even if the Russians also had 8000, they would still actually have a lower crash ratio.
No, actually russian planes crashes more often. Look into Wikipedia.
who gives a shit.
russian aircraft are fantastic. anyone who thinks otherwise is stupid - russian planes are designed VERY ruggedly, but generally use simple components.
the accidents happen because of bad communication or bad choices - those are cultural problems not necessarily pilot or aircraft problems.
if you fail to do maintenance on any aircraft, it will fail eventually. this is not something unique to russian planes. i would guess that most russian planes can fly for longer without maintenance than any other aircraft simply because that's how most of them were designed to operate.
Great vid! Thank you.
Agreed great effort by camera man, thank you!
LoL wow man, thats dedication right there.. Mind you, I dont know why people are actually complaining, this is a good video.. Love the sound of those screaming engines as well.
SHIT, I spilled my vodka
NICE, there is a IL-76 at brussels airport too, it stands there already a week i think, unbelieveble!!! i liked friend!!!
That was impressive. Good video.
Great video!
Great plane flown by a great pilot!
I expected to see the last moment right rudder and the airplane to straighten out. He seems to have actually touched down in the in a cross-wise position. Perhaps the wet runway helped him come around.
1:30 SMOOTH MAN!!! Professional.
Superb flying!
Amazing skills by the pilot - fantastic and what balls to even try it - it must have been pretty hairy in the cabin!! Thanks to them and you for uploading it. Cheers. Ken
PS: I have this crazy picture in my mind of the pilot saying to the co-pilot, "It's ok Boris we will land no problem - just pass me the vodka again!!"
Awesome aircraft! Great approach and landing!
Я переведу для вас, он написал:
Хорошая посадка, этот самолет красиво оформлен и имеет сказочные аэродинамические возможности, очень маневренный. Хорошее видео. Русские, не так глупы, как всему миру, казалось ...
Yes, it was indeed a quite nice challenging landing to watch. Both for the pilot, and the viewer of the video with the constantly shaking picture. I'm going to take an aspirin now for the headache trying to watch this 1.
Excellent video, very impressive with the weather as you mention flying. Saludos
Great Video and Salute to the skills of the flight crew. Well Done Gentlemen.
Great info--thanks very much!
their is tow have good job in this film number 1 the russian pilot & co pilot number 2 the man was standing behind the camera, good job cargospotter for this distnictive film.
we dont mind who is the best pilots we just admire the smartness of this fabulous pilot
Good thing they fly planes better than they drive cars.
jeff darnell Nope! We drive our cars like a god! But we make our roads as a devil )))
Over 90% of accidents due to bad roads. They are either too narrow for heavy traffic or in poor condition due to the large temperature differences. In Novosibirsk (Siberia) winter temperature below -40С (-40F), and summer temperature above +40С (+104F) at the sun (today was +35С in the shadow, hottest then in sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida).
Same roads In Canada with the same road/climat conditions calls like "Death Road".
jeff darnell In Russia , plane flies it self while pilot sleeps having consumed stolichnoya vodka , da ?
pumi63 hui na. Russian pilots are best in the world. Any pilots can not fly in such conditions
Александр Лилуашвили ANY pilots flying within commersial traffic, cargo or passenger planes can land in these conditions.. thats what they are trained for, dont get me wrong,Russian pilots are good, but this is something EVERY single pilot will experience during their career in the cockpit.. So,nothing special about these conditions making it only russians can land... After watching ALOT of hairy landings and landingattempts,Thomson pilots piloting 737 and 767 have impressed me the most..
Tech geek Im sorry to say,but the trafficimage in Russia is insane... cars comes from everywhere and crash in to everything... have you ever watches car crash compilation here on youtube?? Common sense is NOT what russian drivers have alot of... overtakiing in high speed on icy roads.. overtaking in blind turns... driving like you should have stolen both the car and the petrol downtown.. and that is only 1% of all the crazyness in Russian traffic!
Чемпион Мира по посадкам и взлетам в ветренную погоду Ту 134,вот тому все равно какой ветер.
Wowee Zowee!!! He can fly my planes any time.
used google translate - "When such a strong crosswind planted IL-76, like clockwork! Bravo to our pilots - they just aces! This is incredible!"
the right wing lifted up after touchdown. I'm wondering if he kept ailerons into the wind the entire time? haha!! good video!
nice video man..~!!!
Most excellent videography..it looked like the wind was about to knock you over nevermind that pilot trying to land the "little pot bellied piglet"..have to admit he did a great job of it even side-slipping along the runway after touchdown
Reminds me of my plane spotting experiences at Birmingham airport, often in rain and strong cross winds, occasionally seeing the Illyushin76 land. These experiences resulted in my published book, 'Plane Spotting Boy', Lulu Press, Ross G. Cooper.
Pilots have to do this every day of the week all over the world. This pilot is no better than they are.
Ugly? I think the IL-76 looks rather awesome. :-D In my OPINION. ;-)
Great videos, greetings from Australia
Great skill. Great aircraft. Great video.
i love that wing. such a beautiful aircraft!!
A nice Il-76 landing, set to the soundtrack of an avalanche.
Fine pilot, lousy cameraman :)
Berke Beenhouwer
that is some serious skill wow good job
great skill , your patience on the day paid dividends cool flying and excellent skill, is it only thrust reverse on the outboard engines? Thanks for posting.
Handled That, LIKE A BOSS!
Perfecto! Virtuoso!
Finally one that got it :D Very pleased to read your comment man :D As i wrote some americans think americans is best.. thats not that i mean everybody think that... as you said everyone has to go through the same tough training process! Thanks alot for replying man! :D
Good landing job but a very unimpressive airplane, like most military freighters.
The IL 76 have the same size engines as a DC-8 but 30% less speed, half the range and half the payload...
For instance, the diesel eight go from Miami to BA non stop with 100,000 pounds of payload...the IL-76 need two fuel stops with a 80,000 load to make it to Buenos Aires!
THOSE GUYS are skilled - kudos to them!
Nice camera work.
)))
This would have been a great clip if you had been able to display a few more camera skills. Was this the first time you held a camcrder?
Perhaps try and move the camera a little bit more for no apparent reason.
good old vodka burners
Christopher Perham He didn't have enough left to go around!
Also great Russian Aircraft for them to fly! IIlyushin are my favourite
It is a Nato base near Aachen in Germany. I briefly lived there when young as my Dad was Flight Sergeant R.A.F.. Those were Cold War days, and I never thought to see a Russian Aircraft land on those runways!
Smooth! All credit to the pilot there!
A great landing... constant crosswind, nailed the approach and landing.... just left the thrust reversers on a bit too long.... other than that, a brilliant bit of work.
All good pilots make it look easy. Nice landing.
красавчиг
wow! amazing landing in such conditions
