CRAZY russian ILYUSHIN IL-76 Landing - NOSE UP after Touchdown !!

  • This Ilyushin IL-76 performed a stunning landing at Eindhoven last monday. At first it looked like a normal landing but after touchdown the nose went up and for a few seconds I thought they were doing a go around. Impressive sight and as usual I hope you enjoy the characteristic sound of the classic IL-76TD engines.
The company is called Aviacion Airlines and it operated a fleet of multiple IL-76' s . Usually they operate cargo charter flights for the dutch military but we haven' t seen them for a while at Eindhoven.
Thanks for watching, I hope you liked it and please don' t forget to rate.

Beautiful aerodynamic breaking, to reduce stress on the brakes. Note it doesn't go too high and for not too long, to avoid hard slamming of the front gear, as there is still enough speed for proper elevator control! The sign of a great pilot who knows how to reduce stress on an aircraft.

Aero braking is standard procedure on many fighter type aircraft but not common on transport aircraft. We kept the nose off the ground as long as possible on every landing in the T-38. Though you could get a shorter landing run with hard braking, it was really hard on the brakes, so when we had enough runway we used aero braking instead.

which is complete nonsense. In fact it makes the landing distance longer as you are still creating lift and thus reducing the breaking efficiency. You can see it this way: there are ground spoilers for a reason - they basically increase your weight and thus increasing brake efficiency.

Наверно точнее будет - харизматичная птаха. Для меня лично такими харизматичными самолётами за всю историю авиации являются: FW-190, Ту-95, Ил-76 и Су-27. Сила неповторимой красоты и мощи в одном флаконе.

Aerodynamic braking uses the drag induced by taxiing nose wheel off the ground to slow the aircraft. The combination of aerodynamic braking and reverse thrust slows the aircraft quickly, meaning less braking is needed, which in turn means more time between brake replacements so the aircraft needs less maintenance and is cheaper to operate. Old school military pilots all over the world know this ‘wierd trick’ .

That was a very decent flight and the landing was almost perfect to impossible! Bravo! I would personally think that “IL’s” and “AN’s”, or “SU- sychoy” - “AN’s”... They basically are born from practically one construction bureau... So it is really difficult to even make a personal awknauledgementes.

It's a good way to slow down by keeping the nose up until it settled on it's own...Airforce pilots practice this all the time.
