Finally, I've heard lots of drummers (that do covers), but you are the only one that seems different, not only because you don't fill the whole song with strange and maybe even repetitive things on Tom and so on, but even because you can let the sound be clean. Well done

I love the way your toms sound. You tried to mimic the sound of Simon Phillips's drums. No dampening on the toms so they "ring like crazy" like Simon said. But thanks to this open sound your toms sound absolutely amazing.
Always thought double headed toms sounded better without any dampening. It gives them room to ring out and breathe. I have no dampening on my toms and think they sound great.
Those were Simon Phillips drums. The green set was used on tour in the mid to late teens. You can see them online on CZcams in various Toto Two or clips
I stand corrected. These drums were used in Europe in 2007. There is a CZcams video where Simon Phillips is playing them in Paris.
Both of your statements are correct. British Racing Green Starclassic Maple kits were introduced to Simon for the Livefields tour (1998). There are still a few of those kits around the globe so you might see them here and there… My green kit is a replica kit by Tama made of birch. Gong and octobans are custom made.
Drums of quality wood do sound better with thin single-ply heads and no dampening. It really gets the shells sing. For that of course proper tuning is a must.

Thank you for your comment! I’m glad you mentioned the drumsound, because this is the main reason why I’m doing these videos... to experiment with the sound and the recording/engineering.
I’m using Remo Ambassador Clear heads on the kick and tom-toms, and Ambassador Coated on the snare-tops.
I have a lot of problem tuning my bass drum and I tried a lot of drumheads, I don't know what to try, I ordered a remo clear emperor 22, it will be the last try...
Advice ???

@@buche84 Sorry I have no experience with Emperor heads as I have always been used Ambassadors. Those are very easy to tune.
