the cucumber and mint body wash is what I use and it is amazing!!!!!!!
shadow and bone has been particularly painful for me because of how convoluted and muddled the plot is. six of crows deserved so much better and i just know if the script was given enough thought and the characters enough screen time it would have been incredible. juggling 10+ character povs clearly isnât working out for them
i also personally feel like the acting was...off. and it's not the actors' fault, it's definitely the directors and scriptwriters.
like itâs really good on its own but compared to the books itâs a mess.
My friend is obsessed with Shadow and Bones and they told me the author basically said the show is her own fan fiction of her books.
yeah exactly. i adore the grishaverse books, pretty much all of them. but the second season of the show has disappointed me with how convoluted and muddled it became, trying to do something with all of the characters POVs and make a plot out of it
Yess, I so wanted Six of Crows to get their own showđ
Good Omens!! Definitely an adaptation that takes a great book and brings out the best for the tv series. Stays true in the important ways and elevates characters and plot when needed. Also as a personal bias, it helps when you have David Tennant as a lead haha
i love that show and i need to read the book!
@@AClockworkReader I canât wait for season 2 in July!! Interested to see where they take it since there is no more source material to adapt
â@@AClockworkReader the cast version of the audiobook is fantastic!
Oh, my heart! đ Anne with an E is absolutely a superb show, and it did deserve more time, but it hurt to hear it called âBetter Than the Book.â Those books are so life-giving for me. The show is too, but I think of them as just being separate entities, since the story is so different.
This show thawed my heart
Definitely think it's hard to compare. Although the foundation is so directly pulled from the books, the show feels like a separate entity. Both great but so different.
I acknowledge that Shadowhunters is bad, but I ate that shit up when it was first coming out, and yes it was all for magnus and Alec đ
omg same! Malec literally carried the whole show
I HATED how confident Clary was from the beginning idk why. The show was WAAAY better than the movie though đ i didn't watch all the seasons bc I got to bored but I loved the books (Mortal instruments/clockwork angel etc)
@@Helvetica09 Tbh Clary was like confident one moment, and then she completely changed character. It was super weird
same đ
I love how they were like "the movie was butchered, so let's make a show" and that came out just as bad, but for very different reasons. Perhaps the movie series could have been saved if it had done better. I never truly hated it.
I straight up CHEERED when you said Sansa was your favorite character cause people, especially women, who hate on Sansa need to re examine what feminism actually is cause Sansa is the definition of a strong woman! (also she is my fav too)
Yessssss! And people who hate Sansa because of season 1 version obviously just hate women (girls), because she was a fantasy tell version of a basic bitch (12yo version). Are 12 yo's rediculous? Yes. Do they deserve to be hated like that? No.
Imagine still hating Sansa in 2023. People are so ignorant lmao for me she's one of the best character because she's realistic, and she had an insane character development throughout the show. She's my queen idc idc I prefer her over Arya who's straight up overrated.
Sansa was supposed to be less likeable than Arya at the beginning. Arya was portrayed as someone with basic common sense, more like her father, etc. Arya gets to do "cool" stuff like training to fight. Sansa was portrayed as more of a "typical" preteen girl, and honestly with more of her mother's traits and we all know Catelyn has flaws too. So there's nothing WRONG with not liking a character who isn't supposed to be likeable.
It's the fact that she grew up, learned from her mistakes and worked to get revenge using the resources at her disposal is what makes Sansa awesome.
Plus, in the books, she hasn't done as much as Sansa's show counterpart. In terms of her character in the show, she's had a lot more growth and has done a lot more and has had more screen time in general. Of course show Sansa is better. But folks who are hoping the book series might be finished someday are wondering if book Sansa will ever get to do anything fun, cause right now she's sitting around with Robyn Arryn and doing not much of anything. It's quite disappointing. And understandable if people are still not very happy with her POV if she hasn't been as awesome. Oh well, someday we might get that character growth we deserve. I wanna see Littlefinger go down.
@@sefik2809 "not all men" hahahahha
I think you can dislike a character and not be a misogynist đ I personally like. Sansa's character and the journey of her character development. But I think people can dislike her for other reasons not to do with her being a woman and them being misogynistic đđ
Oh, I wish the Lockwood & Co. adaptation was on here. It was a pretty good adaptation... and then netflix canceled it. But the books and show are very enjoyable.
I agree. I didn't know they canceled it though! Ugh, Netflix annoyingly cancels every show I can tolerate đ€
The fact they made it as a test show (aka they knew they were going to cancel it) me even more aggravated.
I absolutely LOVED the TV show and so pissed they canceled it but I am reading the books rn and they are also amazing
Ahh yes Lockwood & Co is top-tier! Still salty that Netflix canceled it even though a quality show is already being given to them
@@readingwarlock There is a pretty strong renweal campaign in the Lockwood & Co. Subreddits. We are all very sad and hope a different network is able to pick it up.
everything you said about Daisy Jones is like exactly what I ranted about in my head bc none of my friends understand. Like word for word. I despised how all the depth was just removed from the series and the essential message of it was just ruined
Yes yes yes we need the Six of Crows spinoff because this spectacular cast deserves better đâš
By far the best tv adaptation is outlander imho. The books are monsters (mostly enjoyable, but still dense and overly long), and somehow the show encapsulates everything enjoyable about them while making it more consumable.
New season comes out this weekend!!
YES completely!!! the show is incredible if you don't want to trudge through the books.
outlander is such a fantastic show!!! i want to encourage everyone to watch it but also gatekeep it for myself /lh
i haven't read the books bc i'm not really in a historical fiction headspace rn but they are on my tbr still
Yes outlander is amazing! They did a great job in my opinion, although the most recent seasons are a little more verging on being soapy unfortunately.
as a 13-15 year old who read the mortal instruments and was addicted to the show when it came out, I think the amount of people who watched and the actors being so close and engaged with the fans really kept me engaged, but I rewatched half an episode recently and wondered why I didnât know it was so badđLOL
Because many stay for Malec đđ
It has been 2 years since I watched the show as a 21 year old and the only reason I stayed was because of Malec.
Clary as a character and her love life ANNOYED me to bits. I was like please leave. It was so messy.
Malec just made me smile because of how cute they are đ
Me with TVD. Watched the first like 5 seasons? when I was 13ish and Jenny Nicholson's big recap on it made me go "wtf that happened???" and "what a garbage plot" so many times.
as a former shadowhunters (tv) fan, i've come to the conclusion that sometimes bad things are more compelling because the potential is the perfect breeding ground for fan culture. yes it's bad, but my memories from that time in the fandom are top tier. some of my favourite shadowhunters tv moments have nothing to do with the actual show, just the fandom around it (true sh tv fans remember the brot3, the many canon divergence jimon fics around that one episode with the seelie queen, the truly feral reaction to dominic sherwood saying a slur on a livestream, etc.)
this is very true
Oh gosh I had forgot all about that situation. . .didn't he do some forced on camera apology for saying it?
@@DeeL3 I don't even remember if there was an apology, I just remember him claiming he was talking about a cigarette (because that's what British people call cigarettes) but the context was very clearly not about a cigarette. if he had an actual apology, it must have been widely ignored because I never saw anything about it.
@@emmaisliterate1047he did apologize but it was obviously forced đ
True! I love the fanfictions. They are so freaking good. I still go back to read some from time to time because I love Malec fanfics (it's the only fanfics I read of the show).
Game of Thrones... I would argue it was never a good adaptation, though I'm sure I'm in the minority there, but the first four seasons were good TV in their own right. The tone and vibe of the books is so different - it's much more steeped in mysticism, there's much less pointless violence and cruelty that the show revelled in, almost all of the characters are completely different people. And the key theme of the books is that revenge is pointless, and that just because the world is horrifically unjust and cruel does not mean it's pointless to be a good person. It's a story about hope. The show has never been that.
I love Sansa Stark. In the books. I think what the show did to her after _the thing_ in season 5 (which does not happen in the books) is deeply misogynistic. I think the way the show portrays all its female characters after George left is deeply misogynistic. But turning Sansa into an emotionless girlboss who literally says if she could meet the people who abused her again, she would thank them for making her a stronger person is the most awful. Turning Arya into an emotionless girlboss who fully embraces the murderous philosophy of the cult she's supposedly escaped is a close second (Arya's arc in the books is a tragedy about a traumatised child being inducted into a death cult who want to erase her identity. In the show it's about a traumatised child becoming an awesome ninja so she can take her revenge).
In the books Sansa's defining trait is her compassion. Her ending up as Queen in the North would be great because she's actually a great person who wants to be fair, and sees the best in everyone, but is also incredibly intelligent, and slowly learning how to tell whether or not someone is trustworthy. In the show she gets into pointless fights with Arya (to be fair, Arya instigated, which was also incredibly stupid, especially since they could've just asked their omniscient brother to clear up any misunderstandings), Jon and Dany, keeps tactical information to herself for no reason, keeps _Littlefinger_ as an advisor even though she knows he's completely untrustworthy. And that would all be fine if the show realised these were problems but it doesn't.
Game of Thrones post-GRRM is, in my opinion, the epitome of the "strong female character" wherein male writers and directors take "strong" to mean "physically capable and stoic" rather than well-written.
This! I haven't read the entirety of the book series but I agree about the slight tone change and the girlbossification of the female characters. Arya was my favourite character for such a long time but as the show went on, my feelings changed. By the end, she was pretty much unrecognisable to me, to be honest. I love Sansa too but again, I agree that the way the showrunners dealt with her character was pretty upsetting at times. It's truly a shame. I too, feel that the first 4 seasons were pretty great. I've rewatched them so many times. I need to finish the book series too. đ
I love that statement sooo much as some one who really, really liked the books I couldnât watch more than three seasons. The books and the show are at some point just two totally different stories.
And I couldnât more agree with your opinion about Sansa and Arya. People told what happens to Arya in the show and I couldnât believe it because it was so contrary to her book personality arc. And for Sansa I think they just mixed and matched every character trait that sounded fine to them.
To be fair, the first two seasons were pretty much copy-paste in terms of story and plot.
Game of Thrones tv serie is awesome.
They twisted everything that made Georgeâs writing and storytelling enjoyable into garbage. I agree, it happened after they lost the source material.
Every time Hannah posts a new video ,I am always happy and it makes my dayđ
I recommend Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn and the HBO adaptation. It's a limited series (only like 8 episodes, I think), which is good because going beyond the book content is usually a death knell for shows imo. One of Amy Adams best performances too.
I think while the show did mess up Camilla and Daisy's dynamic slightly, the fact that Daisy chose to seek help mostly on her own just means so much to me for some reason. If i hadn't read the book, i'd love the DJATS adaptation so much more
1. your take on sansa is 100% correct thank you for this
2. âlooks like he knows what instagram isâ is so funny and accurate
I also loved The Daisy Jones and the Six book so much. I totally see what you mean about those last few episodes, it did feel like the âtwo women fighting over a manâ cliche. In the book, I loved Camilaâs complicated relationship with Daisy and the difficult friendship they had. But I actually really liked the showâs rendition that pivotal scene of their conversation. I felt like Camila deserved to be angry at her, because while Billy was mostly in the wrong, Daisy was too. I thought it was a realistic reaction for her to have, while still restoring their mutual respect for each other in the long run. I like to think of the different endings from the book and show as two alternate universes; I think they both have their values. This was a lot, but Iâve been DYING to talk about it with someone, Iâm so glad you brought it up. Love your videos by the way.
His Dark Materials is maybe my favorite book to TV adaptation ever! It's brilliantly cast and so beautifully made. It just finished like 6 months ago and I can't believe more people aren't talking about it tbh
I seriously think that they could have made shadow and bone exactly like the books. Like they could have done a season for the S&B plot and one season for Soc plot it would have made so much sense. And Anne with an E was such a great show i wish they bring it backđ
Yeah they like skipped the climax of the second book completely
My favourite book to TV adaptation is Good Omens by far. I love the book, but I think Michael Sheen and David Tennant truly bring Aziraphale and Crowley to life. I'm so excited for season 2!
Okayy girl thank you thank you for introducing me to infernal devices--- i binge read the first 5 books in like 3 days; now reading the clockwork series and i just want you to reread them lol
Omg your two other tier ranking videos are my absolute favourite videos on CZcams, Iâve watched them so many times haha! Canât wait to watch this, love you Hannah â€ïžâ€ïžđ«¶đ»
i loveeee Anne with an E in its own right but as a lifelong lover of the books⊠I feel like it got pretty much everything wrong apart from Amybeth/Anne herself and mayyybe season 1 Matthew & Marilla. They just made choices that FUNDAMENTALLY changed the dynamics of important relationships (like Gil & Anne) from what they were in the books. I still get a lot of enjoyment from the show but I have to think of it as its own separate entity and not a direct adaptation for my own sanity
omgg i 100% agree with you!! couldn't have phrased it better myself. i feel like the show wanted to develop the story in its own way (hence the changing dynamics) and only relied on the material when it ran out of ideas, but because the dynamics and storyline have changed so much that when they come back to the storyline in the book it doesn't make sense anymore. as much as i enjoyed the show when watching it, i wouldn't say that it's a good adaptation of the book. thank you for putting all of my thoughts and frustration into words:)))
honestly the 80âs adaptation was so perfect to me that it was hard for me to watch Anne with an E, glad Iâm not the only one who thought it felt so different!
Well said, I share the same thoughts. This show is a good show in its own right, but it is nowhere near as faithful an adaptation as the 1980s Miniseries.
@@aliciabeem9236i donât want to watch anne with an e at all because iâm so attached to the 80s mini seriesđ the soundtrack alone is enough to make me tailspin into nostalgia
Aha my inspiration to keep going through hard times is backkk!!!
So much love to you Hannah đđ
i love all of your tier ranking videos!! i always end up watching them multiple times and they just make me so happy! thanks so much for always making my day, love your channel :))
Yay! I've been waiting for a video like this from you, thank you! It's lovely to see you đ
11:41 This perfectly encapsulates how I feel about the final season of GOT. Iâm so glad someone else sees it this way too! Love your videos, Iâve gotten so many great recommendations from you â€
When I watched the bathtub scene in 13 Reasons Why, it literally sent me into an anxiety attack. I knew obviously that the show was going to touch on very tough topics, but had no idea they were going to get so graphic. Sometimes less is more, and I wish they wouldâve left more to the imagination in that scene
Ahhhh youâre almost at 500k âŒïžâŒïžâ„ïžâ„ïžâ„ïžâ„ïž so excited!!
I watched The Rings of Power and I could not care any less about most of the show BUT MAN I LOVE ARONDIR AND BRONWYN WITH EVERYTHING I HAVE! I have never watched an on screen couple and felt like they were written *for me* until I watched them. They deserve their own show.
If you ever want to know how different the GOT books are versus the show, there is an index that breaks down all the differences on the wiki of ice and fire pages. It helped me keep track of what happened in which media.
Can't WAIT to get my hands on your beautiful journal, keep up surviving queen đ
i LOVE series of unfortunate events with a passion and no one else seems to have heard of it bless you. The books are so unique and the netflix show was a really really good adaptation, the intro song alone slaps
I love them as well!
Loved this video but ALSO loved your sponsorship! I switched to Native over a year ago, and I especially love their plastic free options!!
Noooooo, was not expecting that opinion from you Hannah! I feel like even though you didnât enjoy Georgeâs book, you should know that the progression of Danyâs story in the books is vastly different from the show! I think a lot of people, myself included, get very passionate about her ending being so tainted and wrong because thatâs not the Dany we know. From season 4 or 5 maybe I feel like GOT lost the essence of who she is (no coincidence being thatâs when they lost the source material lol). I PASSIONATELY donât see her fate to be turning into a tirant, if the author ever does decide to finish the books. I may not see her sitting in the Throne either, but thatâs because I believe her destiny not to be to restore her familyâs glory and name, but to be better than her ancestrals and to fulfill her journey as TPTWP.
ooh, this is exciting! welcome back hannah! đ
I can't recall if you've ever talked about the Lockwood & Co books or show, but if you haven't watched the show yet, I highly recommend it!!!!! it did get cancelled by netflix after only one season which has devastated the fandom but I think it's still totally worth watching even cancelled
Hannah I'm so glad you're back! Your videos really make my day, but make sure to take care of yourself first
Other book adapted tv shows!
- Wheel of Time (had mixed reviews but personally I did enjoy it and I liked the tv show changes)
- The Secret Circle (can't recommend as I only ever watched like two episodes but it's out there and only a season - maybe worth checking out if you liked The Vampire Diaries)
- Alice in Borderland (gets compared to Squid Game a lot but personally I think this series is superior!) - based off a manga series
- Castlevania (based off a video game but honestly, it's so great, would definitely recommend)
- The Legends of Vox Machina (based off a real dnd game which also has graphic novels)
- Hannibal (ONLY if you don't mind horror and extreme gore)
- iZombie (based off a comic)
- I Am Not Okay With This (based off a comic)
- Love, Victor (can't comment on how good as I haven't got to it yet but I know it's based off a book)
- Pachinko
- Sherlock
- The Umbrella Academy

This is so fun! I love this video â€
I liked The Summer I Turned Pretty show better than the book! When the trailer first dropped for season 1, I genuinely couldn't even remember if I had read the book. Thank goodness for Goodreads! I rated it 3 stars LOL.
very much recommend sharp objects by Gillian Flynn - the book is fantastic and the show adaptation is spectacularly done and has so many great actors
I really wanted to watch that show but the book was quite triggering for me so Iâm still not sure, maybe one day đ
@@crystaldollhouse oh itâs a heavy show for sure so def put yourself first in that case!
i loved shtv before i read the books, i was SO obsessed, but now iâve read tsc i can never look at it the same đđ
I'm soooo glad you talked about the Camila/Daisy scene! It's my favorite page of the book, and they completely ruined the message of the book. I really disliked the show... I'm 100% with you on that one haha! It made me not even want to re-listen to the songs...
People who hate Sansa aren't misogynists who dislike Sansa's intelligence.
They hate that Sansa's character starts off being "illogical" and "traditionally feminine" (they assume innocence and compassion are traditionally feminine traits).
I personally like Sansa, because I understand that losing her innocence and learning to manipulate people is part of her character arc. It's the same reason I'm okay with Anakin Skywalker being childish in _The Phantom Menace_ because it's important that we become acquainted with his innocence so that when it is taken away with the death of his mother in _Attack of the Clones_ it is all the more impactful.
I love your tier ranking videos! I love that miniseries of Emma! I've grown to appreciate the newest movie, but it's definitely more of a vibe than a faithful adaptation. And pretty much 100% agree on both Rings of Power and Shadow and Bone.
I grew up watching the Emma adaptation you mentioned, and I loved it so much!!! I had such a huge crush on Romina Garai, who plays Emma, sheâs amazing
Same! Sheâs my favorite Emma đđ»
6:26 itâs called bridgerton brainrot syndrome and iâm afflicted. seriously, s2 and pride & prejudice (2011) are on repeat as comfort viewing. but when i read the anthonyâs book, i was so shocked. i couldnât believe such good tv came from such a bad book. i gave it one star đ
LOVE your thoughts on unfortunate events, I completely agree it's a wonderful show and adaptation and I hope it gets more attention!
Iâve been watching today a show on Prime Video called Just Add Magic. So far Iâve been enjoying it and itâs about three girls that are friends and one of them has a grandma who doesnât speak and the girl found her recipe book and it starts to happen magical things. Also it says that the series is based of a book, so hopefully one day I get to read it. Itâs so good so far, even though Iâm not the target audience since Iâm 22 and the girls are like 11 or 12 years old. But still I like the show. If you get to see it let me know your thoughts pleaseđđ»â€ïž
The amount of dopamine you are giving us this year..đ§. Hannah lots of love and support... Take some rest đđ take some rest đ
our opinions on Daisy Jones are so scarily similar to the point of your favourite songs being mine as well, but i agree so much with what you said. i haven't even finished the show when i used to be so excited each week to watch the episodes and thought it was one of the best adaptations i had ever watched. i hate how they did the Billy/Daisy/Camila relationship, i absolutely despised how to took away all of Karen's main points (her not wearing exposed clothing, her not wanting the relationship with Graham to be revealed and not revealing it etc.), the way the promo completely left out Nabiyah when Simone is one of the most important people in Daisy's life, a lot of things work against it and has made me dislike it so freaking much
Yes to all of this!!
My last cat was named Sansa, so I love that you also love her. Sheâs the best character, and she was the best cat đ§Ą
One of my cats is also named Sansa!â€
Hannah I donât think youâve ever said anything more relatable to me about your love of Sansa â€â€girl really went through it
we missed you so so much !
i LIVE for hannah ranting about the differences from the original book to the tv adaptations!!! itâs just so fun to hear her personal opinions, also the fact that sheâs a sansa stan omg
Iâd have to disagree with game of thrones, just because I tried reading it years before but I couldnât get through it then picked it up again after house of the dragon started, and honestly, the books are kind of amazing. Georgeâs writing isnât the greatest, heâs not the best when it comes to writing women, children and sex but the story is amazing. Heâs constructed such an incredible and elaborate world and the characters are so much deeper than they are in the show which I didnât think was possible. Also the fantasy aspect of it is much more prominent which the show runners actively tried to minimize. Iâd really recommend trying it again if youâre ever in a reading slump or something because I truly loved it which surprised me so much because I genuinely couldnât get through it like 5/6 years ago
I absolutely agree about Daisy Jones. I only made it through 3 episodes before I stopped but I heard what happens at the end, and yikes!!
What happens in the end? I also couldnât continue đ
When will we see the TV journal flip through?! I'm so excited for your new journalling product!

I can't wait for the acotar show. When it comes out, we NEED a review from you
I've read and watched got and I can tell you read the books! The show is amazing but the books have soooo much more! If you like epic fantasy they're the absolut best
as someone who was in the shadowhunters fandom without having read the book: yes, the fandom sucked. and i canât explain why i loved it as much as i did, but it became my best friend and iâs favourite show for at least 2/3 years and it was just such a comfort show for me đ„Č
If you like epic fantasy, try Wheel of Time! Books >>> show! Also you might have to forgive the finale episode for being all messed up by COVID, but the story is definitely one of the best epic fantasies of all time!

I MISSED YOU QUEEN

I missed your videos so much !!!
Speaking of your other video, you HAVE to do your hunger games video
I have been dying to know your thoughts because Iâm pretty sure i agree with you about the adaptations
i feel like once you read the a song of ice and fire books you realize why they're worth reading and that the problems w the show started a lot earlier than the last season. i watched the show first and i still adore it, it's enjoyable in it's own right. for example margaery is my fave character in the show but not the books, not that there's anything wrong w book margaery serving a different purpose for the story. my favorite character in the books is sansa, and i feel the show never fully understood/appreciated her character and the arc they gave her irks me. same is true of a lot of characters. not that the books are perfect either but i think if ur a fan ur missing out on the full picture if you don't read the books
i think part of the problem with Rings of Power was due to the lockdown, they were initially filming in NZ, I worked at the hotel where the SFX and stunt downs were staying and nzs lockdown was really strict so they had to stop working for quite a while but the studio kept the same timeline for them to finish and hired new people in the UK to finish off the work
You should read a storm of swords coz that book has so many more twists and turns than the show
Hello, miss you please can I ask you what is the name of the website that you tier your books, I would like to try it. Thank you.
Oh and Hannah I really recommend that you read good omens if you havenât and then watch the show if you havenât already I think itâs something you would like itâs really good đ
Awesome Video!
i had the same frustration when i saw the tv show of daisy jones when it didnt include that vital part of the book but still i loved the show.
My favorite scent from Native is Cucumber Mint, love that scent so much that my shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are all Cucumber Mint scented. I also do love the scent Grapefruit and Bergamont.
all jokes aside, sending you love, because I know that particular state of being where you seek out bad or meh TV on purpose because it's manageable in a way that good TV isn't when you're not feeling well
Loved your thoughts on all these adaptations, I will give anne of the green gables a try if you say so đ happy reading
I'd love for you to make a game of thrones video. I know it's not like your regular content but I'm so curious as to what your thoughts are and want full spoilers. There's so much to discuss in terms of characters and plot lines.
We missed you!!
omg this was so good! you should do the same with book to movie adaptation :)
ohhh Hannah happy 500k
love you so muchđ„čđ©”đ«¶đ»âš
Ok a great book to show adaptation is little fires everywhere it is so well done
I have the exact same thoughts on the Game of Thrones ending! I'm fine with how it ended, it was so rushed it felt so wrong.
Apparently the directors were offered 10 episodes and they said 6 would be enough...yikes.
Also, Rings of Power hurt so bad đ
so glad to know you're obsessed with season 2 of bridgerton because SAME!! i wonder if you watched the queen charlotte spin-off? i thought it was really really good (season 1 should be embarrassed).
