      To learn portuguese nasal diphthongs, it's best to know some spanish.
      This symbol ~ (til/tilde) was were in the past was a "N". So spanish "manos" turned into "mãos".
      "Balones" into "Balões", etc

      @@MiaEsmerizAcademynglish isn't any less illogical, I'm just glad I already speak it natively and don't have to learn it. Case in point, you get ON a bus, plane, train or ship, but you get IN a car. Why you ask? No real reason other than "that's just the way it is"

    Of course there are rules! It's called etymology. Look up the older version of the words.
    You can find traces of vulgar Latin in common castillian Spanish and Galician.
    Mão MãOs / Mano ManOs
    Cão CãEs/ Can CanEs
    Balão Balões / Balon BalonEs

      @MiaEsmerizAcademy  Před rokem +1

      Yes, true, but this would be way too complicated for students that are just learning Portuguese and have no previous knowledge of Vulgar Latin. They would’ve to study two languages instead of one ☺️

    Tem lógica sim. Ela que não quis explicar. Bastava ensinar:
    Palavra feminina = ão/ ãos
    Ex: mão = mãos
    Palavra masculina = ão/ ães
    Ex: cão = cães, pão = pães
    Palavra de duas sílabas = ão/ ões
    Balão = balões, anão = anões, vilão = vilões
