Definitely pick a rower. I went with Hydrow.
Amazing how many Peloton users struggle with the clip in pedals/shoes.
It is definitely the hardest part to learn for a beginner!
I think rower is better - you have to know your body - because a standard rower is harder on the low back. One can get a CLMBR - nice piece of equipment - or you can get a VersaClimber - or you can get a Dynamic Rower versus the standard rower. Dynamic rowers are more money - but you'll save on the low back. I owned a Peloton, ditched it (they actually refunded me 3+ years later because I went through 9 bikes 500mi/month). I have a Stages SC3 but I am going to sell it. Tired of spin. Love my Concept2 Row-Erg - way better and more efficient and effective.
I also have a Concept2 rower and a Schwinn recumbent bike. I am currently experiencing lower back pain from who knows what, and totally forgot the rower would probably make it worse, so thanks for reminding of that so that I stick with my recumbent bike until it gets better.
The better workout depends entirely on you. I set my exercise bike to a built in hill workout at the highest level and my goal is to break my record every time. I’m at 12 miles/24mph pace in 30 min at this point. 30 min is what you make of it.
Applying drag to either workout will give better results. Old saying, "If you put in work, the results will come."
