    I'm absolutely horribly overweight and I know it, i was always a comfort eater and I was severely bullied in school, still have nightmares about that, I ended up putting on a lot of weight. Because of this I'm always so tired, I get physically exhausted way too fast which in turn means that if I go out for a brisk walk or whatever other exercises I'm tired way before I can get in enough exercise as well as joint pain especially my ankles which I have both previously injured severely. So in the end I'm exhausted, sore and miserable. But when I first got on my aunts rower it was so awesome to be able to get good exercise without being in constant pain. I love rowing, it doesn't tire me out as quickly so I can get in the amount of exercise I need and because I don't have my entire weight on my feet I'm not in constant pain. I know that I need to do other exercises as well and I am. The more I row the more I lose weight which in turn means less weight on my feet and that means I can do better exercise. Slowly but surely I am becoming the best me I can be. As for my eating habits, I'm changing them too, cutting out as much starch and plant based fats as possible and my digestive system has been very grateful for it lol. I'm looking into acquiring my own rower and if I can't get one I'll get blueprints and make my own. Rowing is seriously saving my life. Not only is it good exercise but it's also really fun and very rewarding, zoning out on the rower is seriously the best meditation ever.

      Good on you! I love how you’re aware of your flaws and weaknesses and your willingness to work on them, I love that kind of mindset and trust me, it’ll get you where you ant to go.
      If I may make a suggestion, try the sauna as well as it’ll help increase circulation and helps with the lymphatic system which in turn helps clear toxins out of the body but also, it increases your heart rate in a similar way as a light jog or brisk walk does. Mine goes as high as 140bpm I’m a 30min sauna session. It’s like having gone for a jog (in terms of cardio) while sitting down.
      Good luck on your journey!

    This is something I had to learn the hard way. There's not enough hours in the day to work off the calories if you eat poorly enough. Weight loss is about how you eat, first and foremost.
    That said, my doctor mentioned that benefits from exercise come from Day 1. Your blood pressure, heart rate and hormones will be benefitted almost immediately. So if you're going to take the time to eat right, there's no reason not to put in some effort in exercise to get the physical benefit.

    The first thing you realise when you start on a rower with a performance monitor is that it takes a long time to burn off calories; you have to row over 5km to burn 300. This should quickly make you reconsider picking up that cookie when you factor in that you'll need to row 2km to burn off just one.

    Odd question:
    Just got back to the gym after a 24 year hiatus (44m). Went back to my old routine of 1 hour on the rowing machine, about 12,000 meters, and was able to do so non-stop on day 3. Did this for 2 weeks then upped the workout to 20,000 meters or about 100 minutes for the last 2 weeks.
    I honestly feel great other than a little joint pain in both ring fingers and a sore ass at 15,000 meters. I'm not even winded when I stop. I row and then do a couple hours of strength training. I do this 5 or 6 days a week.
    My question is:
    Is this excessive? I'm looking for weight loss and general fitness.The computer says I burn around 1100 calories per rowing session. I maintain a pace of 24-26 strokes per minute and under 2:30 per 500m. I do this all at max resistance (16).

So what's best - to have a slower next interval (since the machine starts counting time anyway and I can't rest for more) OR to set rest time from 1min to 1.5mins for all the intervals. ?

    • @lululx3760
      @lululx3760 Před 3 lety +1

      I dont know if you‘ve already found out the answer, but otherwise; it depends on your desired HR and Intervals. Usually Intervals are really fast, even sprint-like, which uses other energy resources as aerobic, long distance rowing. You should set your rest timer, depending on how fast you go, to about 2-3 minutes, so your energy resources can regenerate and you are fresh for the next interval. 2 Minutes should be fine tho, 3 minutes might be too much.

The only concern is that 2 mins pause is too much during first intervals but almost not enough during last intervals :))) So trying to balance there. In general, I find intervals being a great type of training. The only bad thing about them - during months of Challenges (to make as many meters as possible), especially when you're part of the team - the training session with intervals doesn't give you a big Total of meters at the end of the day. Well...
