Jonathan Stout Trio - "Moonglow" - 8/12/23

Here's a little bit of our trio's rehearsal session at my house on August 12, 2023, featuring Nate Ketner on clarinet and Riley Baker on bass.
I'm playing my 1937 Gibson ES-150 into my 1939 Gibson EH-185 amplifier. This was recorded with an iphone and a Shure MV88 microphone.

Beautiful rendition! I wasn't aware of Nate Ketner's playing prior to hearing these trio performances, and I have to say that the whispery sound that comes out with his notes reminds me of Pee Wee Russell's later work -- not the figures, style or overall tone, but that intimate whispering sound. I know some clarinetists would not take a comparison to Pee Wee as a compliment, but that's the way it's intended -- and the sound works so well on this particular number.
