- This is still part of my Exandrian Folk Song series, but since I also wrote this one to work for really any fantasy/medieval setting, I named it "D&D Folk Song" instead. I imagine this as a song a bard would play in a tavern if a band of mercenaries or an adventuring party were staying for the night to play to the crowd.

My hangover is saved!
I missed the dang premiere, however this is fantastic and I love this shot!
@@ColmRMcGuinness I too missed it by a few months
evening stranger
As a Freelancer worker , this is the song that gets me trough the day , that litle spice of fantasy and romanticismo that makes reality bearable.
I feel you brother
Standard mercenary rates were around 1 gp per day per soldier, plus three meals, tents, and boots, and a bonus (usually 5 gp) for every major battle won.
Ahhh Chase this is SO GOOD!!
"Uhm... mate a little help here? We're kind of ...struggling right now... so if you could fight... not sing... that'd be nice!"
I worked with Thai mercenaries at u-tapao, Thailand 1976. Brave people.
A perfect theme for my mercenary captain character. He’ll be sure to sing this at some point.
I Always listen to it while playing as Carthage in any game. :)
Just started reading a feudal scifi series, "The Star Kingdom"... This is perfect for one of the characters, a mercenary leader named Tenebris Rache. He tries to never get close to anyone, even his crew, because he expects his career to end with an early death. He journeys to right the wrongs of an evil king against him, and those in the past, present, and future that couldn't fight said king themselves.
this made me feel like I am sitting at bonfire where the bard sings at night after a long day of hiking through the woods and I loved it!
I wanna hear Travis Willingham sing this
Really need this song for a Spotify playlist.
The fact that this is not yet on Spotify is a crime. This is one of the best dnd songs I have heard. I need to learn this on my guitar.
Well that went immediately into my playlist
This is easily one of my favorite songs
One thing I know for sure is that I'll be using this on my campaign
another grand piece from the Johnny Cash of D&D.
LYRICS:
I live the life of the mercenary
I live by blade and shield alone
I do not settle, love, nor marry
Lest I leave a widow alone
I trek across the land seekin' the jobs for helping hands
If any need a battle to be won
And when I'm given one, I don't rest until it's done
Oh, me, my sword, and my mercenary band
We live the life (we live the life)
Of the mercenary (of the mercenary)
Restitution is our creed
We seek the thrill (we seek the thrill)
Gold and glory (gold and glory)
And it's the only life we need
We trek across the land seekin' the jobs for helping hands
If any need a battle to be won
And when we're given one, we don't rest until it's done
Oh, me, my sword, and my mercenary band
I live the life of the mercenary
I court death near every day
I do not fear it, oh, come and take me
But let me ride once more this day
I trek across the land seekin' the jobs for helping hands
If any need a battle to be won
And when I'm given one, I don't rest until it's done
Oh, me, my sword, and my mercenary band
We trek across the land seekin' the jobs for helping hands
If any need a battle to be won
And when we're given one, we don't rest until it's done
Oh, me, my sword, and my mercenary band
Wow... I get to sleep before a premiere?! 😂 Right... Alarm set... Can't wait ❤️
Wish this was on spotify
26 good people waiting for Chase's premiere on Halloween 31 October 2021! Over 40 people watching. The video is a stunning complement to the music and lyrics; water, waves on both shores, trees, sun, grasses, and legit fog moving over the water. Someone probably had a campfire nearby!
Here, young man, take my like and subscription while I'll grab a glass of whisky.
This is so good! It absolutely captures the mercenary spirit and I was nodding along the entire time!
I listened to this on loop for almost an hour, it's so good
This is AWESOME!! I'm gonna be listening to this non-stop!
I really cant stop listening this is just so perfect.

God DAMN this was good. Absolutely nailed it. This was incredible to listen to, and my next bard will for sure have to play this in a tavern

Righteous song. Great Job! I feel like this falls into a Warren Zevon type of tune, which is a high complement from me. Damn fantastic tune :)
Everytime you release a new song its a celebration! The joy your amazing music brings to me and to so many others :)
How it goes? Thank you for the music - This is going to be on repeat for daysssss
This suits a character that I've been writing. While yes, his class and race may suggest a japanese samurai, he's actually a european german-icelandic mercenary (at least the world I'm dropping him and his party members into)
Vetur of the Dragon Brigade
Race: Half-Kitsune (human)
Class: Fighter (Samurai)
Background: Mercenary Veteran
Stats: Str: 17, Dex: 13, Con: 18, Int: 11, Wis: 16, Cha: 15 (Dex gets a +1 while Cha gets a +2 onto the already stated values)
Weapon of Choice: Double-Edged Claymore, Hand Crossbow
Armor: Chain Shirt/Half-Plate
Backstory (Simplified): A mercenary who hails from the land of Valheim, yet is descended from both the lands of Yakata, Valheim, and Vaskir. He rides with the mercenary group known as the Dragon Brigade, lead by a mysterious warrior who simply calls himself Drake (Drake is a militaristic Silver Dragon, but cursed to stay in a polymorphed form until he is either killed or repents for the brutal nature of his actions against the Chromatic Dragons). Vetur is stoic and not easily frightened, but can be easily pissed off by a gloating warrior. On the inside, he is a protective spirit who would lay down his life if anyone were to be in danger before being paid to do so.
This is so good!!
The song of a Nomad patch holder of a 1%er outlaw motorcycle club. Every club has a branch of Nomads. The Hells Angels, Outlaws, Mongols, Galloping Goose. It is hard for them to even have a family because they are on call for the clubs 24/7. If a call comes in to take care of business, you gotta go. You don't question, you just get on your bike and go finish whatever you are told to finish.
Chase, that was fucking amazing! Positively great!
Incredible!
Funny thing is, most D&D parties are exclusively "adventure for profit", so this isn't locked into just one class.
Mercenary ain't a class in DND it's a profession. Well sometimes it depends on DM/GM.
A fighter is the class most common for being a mercenary. Since they're the most numerous in most DND settings
@@JacobColeman-tu3sb Yeah, I know. That was my whole point.
@@willmangrum3686 Oh i must have misread your comment. Sorry.
@@JacobColeman-tu3sb All good. The intention is often difficult to convey in a single comment.
@@willmangrum3686 Funny thing is i thought your adventure for profit part meant only fighters. So I thought id help you since i thought you were confused.
Because i did something like i did now for a new DND fan back in 2023.
really does seem like a song a gang of fantasy mercs would sing on a march or at camp
Oh my oh my, thats awesome!
LOVE IT!!!
I’d buy an album full of music as great as this easily
Excellent 🙏🙌🏻👌🏻
I got super inspired by this song with my current mercenary character. I had a fun idea about this being the sort of song the whole room could join in on (mostly inspired by my experiences at summer camp) and wrote a scene around that idea. Essentially, anyone else who could fit it to the meter was allowed to add their own verse. I don't know if you'd be interested in reading that, but I'm happy to share it if you like.
Oh, and you are still the bard who wrote the song.
going to use this as the introduction song for Davil Starsong in Waterdeep: Dragonheist. I'm planning on the doom slayers to be hanging around in the yawning portal and the zhents with them be singing this when the players enter and after Davil finished playing he'll either invite the players over if they've already completed some quests and if not then the players will be free to approach him if they choose to do so.
We are the Blackhearts! We served against beatsman and Orc until we were decimated by ambush... Our Ogre Captain Bash held us until we met our REAL Captin of Rylan Karth. We;ve suffered daemons and necromancers and orcs and ogres and starvation and we will find that crown and get paid and we will LIVE!!
As an actual private contractor. I appreciate this.
Sir, if I may ask you, why this masterpiece isnt avaliable in Spotify?
Vibes. 😍
Challenge: since this is so FULLY AWESOME, I dare y’all to spontaneously sing this before, during, or after the next big game-streamer live show. D&D merc life!
Please, Chase, lead the singalong version!!!
I LVOE THIS
This reminded me that I need to finish the mercenary D&D game I started.
OMG when this in Spotify!? MARVELOUS
Yessssss!
I just found your channel today.
Very nice
Soon 😊
Got damn that’s a good song
This IS THE SONG
Somehow, Mr. Johnny Cash brought me here. I like this.
Well I have to put this in my D&D music playlist. It’s in the title. 😆
I can see this being sung in Kings of the Wyld, when they're bringing the band back together.
Hannibal's army singing while marching up and down Italy. Leaving behind dead and looted Roman soldiers and burning Roman camps.
This is the feeling this song gives me.
This and march if cambredth (think i spelled that right) are both premium medieval fantasy marching songs
Play at 0.75 speed, I recommend it!
You almost sound like Liam O'Brien but I love the southern touch
Wonderful creation indeed
Ps my suggestion would be, When we're called upon we don't rest until it's done.
I do love the original lyrics, just didn't get what you meant with the lyrics "When I'm giving one"
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Do you have Spotify I want to download this so I can listen to it at work nevermind found it
Is there any way I could convince you to allow me to use this song in a fanfic I'm writing? With full credit and links to you, of course. I've been trying to find a good song for my teifling bard to sing and i feel like this would be great!
100%, go ahead!
@@ChaseNoseworthy once i reach a point where i start posting it (to Ao3) I'll let you know!
Can you upload this to spotify?
Hey Chase, will this sonf ever be available to buy? I couldn't find it on Tunes when I searched your name
Is this coming to Spotify as an album for D&D?
Is this on Spotify?
It's Your fault.
I was fighting with a thought about DMing an old old campaign of mine where players are band of mercs. And this gem pops into my feed. So yeah
It's completely Your fault.
Mando'a be like:
