In this lesson we brake down a heavy hitting rock based linear tom groove. Not only is it a saucy lick, but it is an excellent groove to build independence on the set because it requires all limbs to be working independently. Linear grooves are not only useful on kick snare and hat beats, they can be used to incorporate your whole drum set. Learn how to incorporate your toms and stretch your independence with this musical tom groove.

Thank you for sharing that and that means a lot to me. I want to give you something because of your interest and support. Email me at eric@fisherdrumming.com and I will personally send you an email about a new course I have coming that I think you would be interested in!
In no direct or indirect way am I trying to bash or even degrade this, but I can achieve a very similar sounding groove without making the sticking as complicated as this one. So with that being said, is this something to play to achieve a specific sound, or is it just to play to challenge yourself? Thanks!
Good question man!
There are always numerous ways we can orchestrate or displace notes in the drums when playing a particular rhythm. This is just one way, and it’s specifically addressing the concept of linear application. Notice we are using our kick drum a lot and this greatly improves your ability to come up with all kinds of useful patterns around the kit. It’s very normal for us to come up with different ways of orchestrating the fills or grooves but it’s really helpful to learn all types of sticking and patterns to give you more ideas, and skill in crafting your own style.
