- Clarification: You can download a free 'Just Dance' app on the Switch, or whatever console you're on, but you'll need to pay for the 2023 Edition content. According to the inside of the box, this will give you all content for the year, including 'extra songs for a limited time' - no further info than that.
You can play the game offline, but you'll need to download the songs/content onto your Switch, and its roughly a 6.5GB download.
Also, there is no sweat mode, but it compensates with something else. More information coming in my review.

Just Dance 2020, 2021 and 2022 had seasons as well where they would drop 8 songs onto their Just Dance Unlimited service within a 1-2 month period, so seasons aren't a new thing to the Just Dance series, however it is unknown of how seasons will be handled with 2023 as the Just Dance Unlimited service has been replaced with a new service called Just Dance+.

I'm wasting more time than I expected trying to figure out how it works before taking the money from my pocket. I think that just pirating might be easier. I would like to buy only the subscription to unlimited to have access to classic songs but I can't find how. I don't want to pay for the game plus the service. Ubisoft being Ubisoft. No wonder why they get along very well with Nintendo.

It kind of seems like Just Dance Now, Just Dance Unlimited and the mainline series are heading towards merging into one service, which I think I’m ok with, it makes it more accessible and they’ll all be in one place under one title

@@MasterTrainerPeter my concern is how much of it would be limited to online and what happens if they pull the servers, I’m pretty sure singstar tried to do something similar to this and it ended up being one of the last games in the series. I’ll be holding on to all past Just Dance cartridges just in case.
@baque it’s available on most smart tvs, computer web browsers and tablets for the screen with a phone as a controller. You don’t need a console or a copy of a game to play and offers mostly the same track as the most recent JD unlimited, there’s 3 songs from JD 2023 at the moment so I’d say it’s more accessible than unlimited or plus which would work in its favour, it just doesn’t get promoted as much

Unpopular opinion: disabling camera and allowing only phone/stick/joycon usage makes it more fair. Considering users use different consoles and are not separated in the game... and we all know that joycon and phone have very strict scoring rules compared to camera.

It does level the playing field, albeit using the camera should be allowed for standard play since that's a good way to incentivise fully moving the body
@@MasterTrainerPeter that's a good point. Personally, however, I wouldn't purchase a game such as JD to only move my arms, you know what I'm saying? There're people that will abuse the system, some already do. But tbh the joy of JD is learning the choreographies and moving the body fully, without feeling like the exercise is a pain in the butt.

I have to agree with you Ana. I wasn't even mad about the fact that camera was removed. I was mad because xbox 1 and ps4 are considered old gen even tho their abilities as consoles are better than stadia who got canceled from Google itself and Nintendo switch. I can't play one of my fav games from now on because I'm not In the 10% of the population that has a ps5 or an Xbox s/x. I do think that sales gonna drop for them because most people don't have these consoles. That's my only issue. After all it took wii 8 years to get finally canceled (2021) as old gen since the new gen of that time came out in 2013 (ps4-xbox 1) whilst now it took ps4 and xbox 1 only 2 years to get canceled ???
Im a huge just dance fan who has been playing on the kinect since just dance 3 and i was so heartbroken when i found out there would be no more kinect or xbox one! Some people dont mind the phone controller, but for many like me it is physically uncomfortable, painful, and overall just harder to dance. One time i tried it out a bit and within two songs i had a blister on my hand. Im getting a nintendo switch for this but nothing will ever beat the kinect. The tracking is better most of the times + you are fully scored for your whole body, not just your arm. You also dont need to hold anything while you dance, bc there are straps to put the joycon on but they come at the sacrifice of scoring worse. Anyways ive heard the joycons are a bit harsh on scoring, i hope its not that bad bc i will be so upset if my scores plummet bc of that
This is also upsetting for me. My mom and I have played since the beginning. (On the Wii) Buying new consoles and stuff to keep playing. I guess I’m gonna have to buy her a switch. But the Kinect was AWESOME!!!
I still have my Xbox 360 because of that. I'd much rather play on kinect, but bought a switch for my daughter this Christmas and got a new Just Dance to see how it goes. But I don't think it will be as good as it was with Kinect

I am so young, that my first Just Dance was Just Dance 4 XD. But I thank Just Dance 4 for intronducing me into One Direction, Nicki Minaj and JLO (Jenifer López) ^u^. My fav song of Just Dance 4, is "Call Me Maybe", I would dance that for HOURS and not get tired of it :'). Good Feeling was also my fav, and I got my first 5 stars on Livin' La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin when I was only 10 years old XD, yeah impresive isn't it?
@@namelastname1681 so just dance 2023 does not have camera capability. Instead, you use a smart phone as a controller to track your movements. Previous versions of the game are capable with the xbox kinect i believe :)

I'm kinda bummed that there won't be a cartridge or disc for this game I like to have my games physical.
Well they will for this game but not for future ones, future games will just be featured in updated versions of 2023

I've got this game and what I miss is the competition online! In the previous game you could join in a world wide comp and dance through like 8 songs and you would place from 1st to like 300 depending how you done in that set! And then it would continue and continue
Those sorts of rankings are there, they're just much less dominant, and I dont think you can check leaderboards
leaderboards can be checked i think and also there's online i think

I have only had the Wii version (3 and 2016) which I didn’t expect much from 21, I was extremely surprised on how easier it was to get 5 stars, im totally gonna buy this version! UPDATE! I got the 2023 version and I’m in love with it! You def should buy

I’ve just bought the game this and coming back to this, I’m not too sure. Visually everything looks better than ever and I am excited to try all the songs and playlists, but they’ve taken away so many features, it almost feels unfinished. Sweat mode, custom playlists, even favouriting songs. I hope these all get re-introduced in later updates. Every year I would hope we could get the option to set sweat mode as the default mode so we didn’t have to set it every time we open the game, now they’ve just taken it away entirely. I’ve only played 3 songs so far (not including the demo songs I tried previously and can’t stop the feeling through JD now), there is a dramatic difficulty gap between Drivers License and Top of the World even though they are both “easy”

Can't blame ubi for dropping the camera options (does it save time for them? Kinda) but, still can't get over to the fact that they're making it cartridge-less could also make the value of the game lesser. Imagine a hand-me-down codes nowadays lol.

The game's concept was actually done before!
When JD2020 released, Ubisoft Shanghai made it a Nintendo exclusive then simply called it "Just Dance China" and kept making seasons within the Chinese version of JDU with songs both exclusive to the service and ones from the main series.
IMO Ubisoft Montreal should've done this when they released JD2020 so the fanbase can afford the game without it being outdated super quickly. But I guess they wanted to test the waters with JD2022 then end the JD 2019-2022 era with the announcement of JD2023 Edition.

I just got it for Christmas and honestly my only issue is that it seems like there aren’t a lot of songs and I’m getting tired of playing the same songs and then the more difficult version of it. I was going to buy the Just Dance 2023 Ultimate edition but I’m hesitant because if it doesn’t give me more songs then I’m not going to buy it. Maybe later on in the year they will add more songs but right now it just seems eh

I love almost everything about the new game, however I’m not happy about them taking away Xbox 1 and PS4. I know that so many people will just tell me to go get a Switch but it’s not that easy. Many players don’t have the money for a new console, especially a next gen one. I think they should have let players know before the game was announced that the previous generation wouldn’t be supported so players could have time to save money to get a new console in time for the games release. With the way they did it, not even saying anything about taking away old gen, it caused a ton of players to get really mad at the team. If we had been given a warning before the game was even announced, I think there wouldn’t have been so many people upset. With how they did things, it’s going to make their sales not as good. I can understand if Kinect was the problem when it came to scoring being fair, but then they could’ve just gotten rid of Kinect instead of the whole console. Where does the play station fit in? Actually it really doesn’t. They could have continued to support the PS4 with only the PS move controller. I don’t know why the team did what they did, but I don’t think they went around it the right way. All things aside, the game is a huge upgrade and even though I can’t play it, I’m excited to see everyone else have a good time.

Services are discontinued but physical copies stay, even with a limited array of songs, they'll always be there and available and you only pay once for that physical copy.
So I'm a little sketchy about this whole model...
This is a very valid concern, but not one we can answer for now. Since you can download songs to the console, I'm inclined to say you'll be able to access them. However we can't say got sure.

If you buy Just Dance 2023 Edition, you get the updates to the base game for the 12 months following release. After that, I dont know. I assume you can still access it through the Just Dance game, but I also dont want to assume.

No, on PS5 and XSX you have to install an app on your phone (Just Dance Controller) and pair with the game. PS5 native games are not compatible with Move controllers at all, similar to how the XSX is not compatible with the Kinect either (on the dashboard of the console it doesnt even have the Kinect settings app anymore)
You need to dance with a phone in your hand, it's complete rubbish.
I just got just dance 2022. To start and then i get just dance 2023 . Later in the year. My sister had the Wii versions of the game . We use play it all the time.

my question is - what will happen to the seasonal songs from the last 3 games? I hope they wont be bound to just dance plus when just dance unlimited dies, and instead they ship a surprise update to the old games putting the seasonals in offline mode... otherwise, piracy is the only answer.
Unpopular opinion: Not a fan of seasons and songs coming on a seasonal basis. I have favorite songs that I have to wait for to come, which sucks
I respect it! If you look at how Just Dance Unlimited started, its a...fairly similar number of songs, I think. Unlimited has had time to build it up, whereas Plus hasn't. I hope your favourite songs come in due time!

Nah, different things. Just Dance Unlimited is for Just Dance 22 and previous editions, whereas Plus is only available for Just Dance 23

PS5 and XBX have a long life ahead, I dont think we need to worry about that. As far as Ninty goes, I imagine we'd get an updated version.

I really don't like that we are only able to use the phone. I would've bought the camera and the PS Move controllers. My phone is hella heavy and it messes up my arms after dancing for a while. Uneven weight.

Alternative versions of songs (Seraphine version of More for example) is Online only, it doesn't say anywhere that, i downloaded all the songs of the game on my switch to olay on the go but those versions are online only. I would get it if it was a just dance + song but it is advertised as a 2023 edition song, it sucks

For Switch it can be controlled by smartphone app or Joycon controllers. For Ps5/XBX its only using the smartphone app.
Its revealled the No Kinect support is because of the new Unity Game Engine they switched to this year, Unity does not have Kinect support D:

Ultimate comes with 12 months of Just Dance Plus.
Just dance will most likely have a game with 2 songs free, so free 2 songs in the base game (the base game is free) and everything is gonna be dlc

I can't get it to work 90% of the time bc my ps5 has a nat 2 port. It only likes nat 1. You also have to have a compatible phone as the controller. None of my Samsung galaxies are compatible. I had to find an old Motterola.

The 2 song thing is free. If you've paid, it should be there. Perhaps it hasnt finished downloading it properly?

If they do not majorly update their new Just Dance plus feature then I don't think this game will be lasting.

theres a few reasons why they couldnt add all the jdu songs at once that i cant be bothered to list but they will be building jd+ up over time to get closer to jdu. idk if it will have every song jdu had but its not going to stay this small forever. def keep your jdu for now tho assuming you have it

If you have no phone, idrk how to solve this. You can either get the cheapest phone available that has compatibility. Even a used phone bc that will be cheaper. If you are a minor whose parents dont let you have a phone, you can try borrowing their phones or discussing with them you getting a phone soon. Maybe theyll be swayed. Or you can just get a nintendo switch.
How about explaining how to play this game offline using latest Xbox console? You know anything about that? Not interested in any online play.
You'll need to connect to the internet at first, then download the songs so that you can play them offline. Same as you do downloading a TV series from Netflix or whatever
I wanna buy the game for the first time, but I don't know if I can play the game without a subscription on Nintendo online. I don't want to play the game online. Only alone or with friends in my house. Do I have to get a subscription to play offline or not? I can't find that anywhere, so I thought I could ask it here
I dont believe you need a subscription, but you need to go online at first in order to download the songs to the Switch so that you can play it offline.
You will get a free 7 day trial of Nintendo Switch Online with the game too, so that should be enough time to download the songs.

Yeah, I dont think thats actually something you can do. It curates playlists for you, which feels...dumb. Hopefully it'll be in an update

But taking away playlists....when you subscribe to Just Dance + you get access to thousands of songs. They expect us to stop dancing/working out to search for songs? Edit: Just Dance+ doesn't actually include all the songs that Just Dance unlimited did. So I don't see myself gettinguch playability from this until they add more of their older songs. The bulk of my playlists is from 2019-2022 as well as a few older songs.

Yeah, I feel the dropping of the camera is a big issue. Unfortunately thats the thing with tech. It gets outdated, and then we move on without it.

Ubisoft did have their own camera that they used for like 2 games back in like 2009. I saw an ad for a game that used it in the box for the OG just dance, and i was thinking “if they had a camera why wouldnt they use it for just dance?!!!”

So what if it's a kid playing and the parents or another adult doesn't want them using their phone, how do they play?
If they're on Switch, they use a joycon. If its on PS5/XBX, then I dont know.

They really shouldn’t have got rid of the ps4 or Kinect option. Using a motion sensing camera made the game an actual dancing game, because everyone was forced to actually dance.
Now it’s bringing me back to the wii days where you could be trying your hardest but still lose to someone sitting down. (PS: which is not fun what so ever)
Yeah, I feel that. The phase out of Kinect on the Series X is damaging to Just Dance, but I do wonder how the Just Dance VR for PSVR2 will fare.

Just bought the game a few days ago and I recommend keeping your old JD games with the unlimited subscription for now. The + catalogue is so small and when I’m looking for specific older songs I have to open my old game. I get that’s it’s new but the + is very disappointing and I wouldn’t recommend buying this game right now if you don’t have older versions🥲 unless you only want the select few new songs
this game wouldve been SO GOOD, but ubisoft have just ruined it by being so greedy, theres barely any songs that you can play for free, which is stupid considering the fact that we’ve payed £50 for this game

Interesting. Why? The core gameplay loop feels exactly the same (to a Switch player, I get its very different on Xbox)

I was excited for the game but now I realized that it’s going to just be online and my internet is always so bad so I won’t even get to play :(
Once you load the game up, you can download the songs to your console so that you can access them offline in the future
I have just dance 2022 and i bought the subscription to all the songs from all just dance will i get 2023 or do i need to buy it again
You'll need to check Ubisoft's website for that
if what you are talking about is just dance unlimited, that does not at all carry over to just dance 2023. if you want to play the newest songs you still need to buy just dance 2023. if you wish to have extra songs on jd2023, you have to get just dance+, not just dance unlimited. however, i dont recommend getting just dance+ at the moment bc it has significantly less songs than jdu (more will be added over time for a handful of reasons but it should get at least close to jdu eventually)

The game is download only, but they still sell typical game boxes that have a code inside instead of a physical game. Thats what is considered physical for jd2023

Just Dance 2024 is already out at this point, it released on 24th October.
As far as your JD video suggestions, whilst I appreciate the thought I dont think theres much of a video there simply because regardless of version (2023 or 2024) you get the same features. It all launches via the same game (Just Dance) on the menu. Its just that 2023 and 2024 are different song packs. So whether you get 2023 or 2024 is entirely down to personal preference.

Is it possible that my kids (each own profile on same console) cant play against each other using their own profile??? Locally???? Even the just dance subscription wont work for others than the one who bought it even if on same console! Very disappointing
This is my issue - we can’t all play as a family it just says guest 🤦♀️ Takes all the fun out of Ymir and no playlists - make no sense - I want my money back.

To be honest I'm sad that there are no game cards for this game like for the people that are gonna say :"but they are gonna update it" I mean games like animal crossing,minecraft and other games (switch) they have a game card and still update so I don't get the point why JD 2023 did this big change probably for lower space and stuff but still...
Theres any number of reasons why they didn't really. I wonder if its to do with production costs of the carts, or maybe because there is a trial verison available.

I got the just dance unlimited pass (I bought the 2022 version with the pass) but I didn't get instant access to 2023 is this a bug?
No, check Ubisofts website for information on whats going on there.
You have to buy just dance 2023 to get access to just dance 2023. Buying just dance unlimited and the previous game doesnt give you instant access to jd2023.
