Congratulations, finally you heard the album. Please do Killers next. You won't be disappointed. Prodigal Son is my favorite from that album. I was 9 the first time I heard Maiden, and Killers was the album. I fell in love with the band and the artwork.
Yeah I hadn't played this album in decades and I don't remember "Strange World" being...otherworldly like that. Also I remembered Paul D'Anno's voice as being so rough throughout the album (save for "Remember Tomorrow," of course), but on this song he actually does his greatest singing ever. I mean it's really incredibly impressive here. So yeah, all these decades later, this is now majorly rising up the list of Iron Maiden songs for me. #UpTheIrons 🤘🏻🐻🤘🏻
My thoughts exactly! I was young when this album was released, and I wanted just fast and heavy. I would skip over Strange World. Now, I often seek it out and play it on its own.
There are quite a few performances from paul on yt doing this as an acoustic song, they're all good, one was recorded for a radio show I think, he's in a small room, that one has the best sound quality.
"Strange World" has always been my favorite Iron Maiden song, everything about it connects with me on such a deep level! It inspired me to pick up the bass guitar! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Loving the videos as always Doug. You must do Killers next. Just do the whole album start to finish, you won't be disappointed. With Adrian joining the band starts to sound "more maiden," if you catch my jist. And please go see them live, it's a great show! Peace.
Definitely do Killers. Their first album was at the end of the punk era and was of its time. However, Killers is a much more mature album and shows us glimpses of what Maiden would eventually become. It’s still one of my favourite Iron Maiden albums.
Strange World is easily my favorite Iron Maiden song. Paul's singing on it is quite tender and impressive, and the band creates an alluring, atmospheric sound. This is echoed somewhat on Prodigal Son from Killers, I hope you do that album next!
"Strange World" has always been my favorite Iron Maiden song, everything about it connects with me on such a deep level! It inspired me to pick up the bass guitar! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Great reaction, Doug! The first album is a classic! Fact! But Killers has other relevant new factors: the arrival of the masterful Adrian Smith on guitars, along with the exceptional Dave Murray, guitars also from the first album, the production and sound engineering of the unforgettable Master Martin Birch. These 2 new factors and wonderful songs are worth your reaction to the entire Killers (1981), an album in which Iron Maiden undoubtedly evolved in all aspects, although the first album is a classic!!!
@@eyeq7730when they started working with Martin Birch, he said he would’ve loved to have worked on their first album too, but Steve said he thought Martin was too big for them as a band recording their first record. Needless to say Martin Birch laughed it off and said he’s not above working with new bands, he would then spend the next 10 years producing their albums… and what a great job he did!
A mi no me parece el sonido tan malo. De hecho tiene cierta calidez y al mismo tiempo crudeza y autenticidad que lo hace muy atrayente. Y que fuera grabado con una media de 22 años me parece alucinante , eso solo lo hacen los genios.....
Doug, yer next step should most definitely be KILLERS. An amazing album that should be represented more live than just the track Wrathchild. Please enjoy 🤘🏻🇬🇧🖤
I love "Strange World" so much. Every instrument -and Paul too- follows a somehow different melody, however they are all coming together to create this amazing song.
I've heard or read somewhere that Strange World is being sung from the perspective of a vampire.(?) With a line like "...girls drinking plasma wine..." ,and Transylvania preceding it, maybe that's true.
"Strange World" has always been my favorite Iron Maiden song, everything about it connects with me on such a deep level! It inspired me to pick up the bass guitar! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
This eponym album was where my heavy metal journey begun, I was 12 years old. I'm 54 now and I do enjoy Iron Maiden as much as the first day. They have such an amazing repertoire with so many hidden gems like The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner. I wish one day they'll do a symphonic show, their music has everything to be grandiose with a good conductor at the helm. Can't wait to see them in 2024, already have my VIP tickets for the Future Past Tour. Up the Irons y'all! 🤘
Killers for sure deserves a listen. The first five albums are my favorites I think just because I was in high school then and shortly after so I've listened to them and analyzed them more than the others. For me, Powerslave is the peak of their career. That tour provided the sound of Live After Death my favorite live album too.
This was the hardest stuff at one time. Really takes me back... P.S. Yes, definitely - Killers next! P.P.S. Don't miss your opportunity to see Maiden. I've seen them a bunch of times going back to the 80s, and they're never less than great!
Same. I think I bought "Killers" first, along with "for those about to rock" from AC/DC. Being good at drawing, I don't even remember the number of times I had to reproduce the Killers album cover on jean jackets for friends.
Saw Maiden for the first time with this album when they supported Judas Priest at The Gaumont, Southampton, UK A memorable gig, not least as I rolled off the back of my mates 750 at the traffic lights leaving the gig. If you are one of those that came to my help that night - Thank you for all the music I've been able to see here and experience since!!!!
Amazing to think at the time this was recorded they were at the top end of being a pub rock band. Only Harris and Murray went on to be the Iron Maiden we know and love. Both the stand out players here. Loved to have seen them in this period.
So glad he’s reacted to this. The debut has always been my favourite maiden album and is probably my favourite of all time , and strange world is just a special song. Up the Irons 🤘
The opening riffs of Prowler and Transylvania were written by Dennis Stratton. He is a huge part of this album and Iron Maiden's early success. He went on to play guitar on some great Praying Mantis records.

Killers is definitely where you want to go next. So then you are done with that era of the band. It was a great debut era, but their sound has gotten so much better later on. I like to listen to their 2 first albums from time to time, but it's still "only that". The start of a wonderful journey, that never disapoint.
Clive had such a naturally gifted grove, Steve Adler of G n' R had a similar natural grove to his playing. Nicko however is a more technically tallented blood sweat n' tears player.
Such a great album that I still blast regularly. Bruce & Dio are my all time favourite singers but Paul's voice is perfect for the rawer, more punk influenced style of the first 2 albums
Doug, Killers is an uneven album, but well worth your time in my opinion. It was the first Maiden album I listened to, so maybe that has skewed my preference. It has some filler tracks tbh, but the good ones are sooooo good they more than make up for it. Go for it ❤
Killers is my 2nd favourite Maiden album (after Piece of Mind). It’s less immediate than the first album but better produced, played and, damn, I still love those songs after forty plus years.
Doug, you definitely should do killers next. Full album reaction. And keep going in chronological order through the whole catalogue, including the live albums, which are essential listening. However. If you are planning to go see the current tour. Be aware, it is a tour featuring deep cuts from the newest album senjitsu, and deep cuts from the 1986 album somewhere in time. Hi Doug, yeah you should listen to Killers. And indeed do it like you did with this one. And I can say that I have seen Maiden with this line up in my hometown of Leiden when they were a support act of... KISS. I still have boot leg somewhere of that. They were fantastic that night
The Red and The Black is my favourite Iron Maiden song. I hope its still in their playlist for next year's tour. Best instrumental solos they have ever done

Its great to know Iron Maiden still have any annual gathering for all former band members and roadies at The Horse and Chart where it all started ( and the is a sizable list Mr Harris was a picky bastard)
Killers is THE best Maiden album for me. Don't forget that they also did a couple of singles with Paul on vocals that didn't feature on the albums (Women in uniform / Twilight Zone) and a four track live ep (Maiden Japan)
When I was a teenager in the early 90s, I went on a trip to Italy and passing in front of a store I saw the jacket of the K7 Killers. I said to myself that it looked cool, when I got into bed in the evening I put the k7 in my autoreverse walkman, I had the musical slap of my life, chills with each song, such a captivating atmosphere, I spent the night listening to the album and of course I became a fan. My god the song “prodigal son” what joy! My 17 year old daughter has also become a big fan of Maiden and Killers is her favorite album.
I truly enjoyed watching you experience and enjoying yourself though this album. Killers will really do a number on you because the addition of Adrian Smith and their overall evolution is amazing. Paul’s voice is criminally underrated because this man is a fucking legend. Killers is All killer no filler , and in my opinion one of their top three albums. Can’t wait to see you get there and share with us. Love the content!
Yeah! Thanks for diggin into the debut. I will always love the first two Albums since I found them between my fathers records. I am directly seven again kneeling in front of dads stereo, copying the Artwork with my pencil while listening to the fastest and hardest sound I've ever heard... Transylvania... and then driectly into strange new world, in fact a dreamworld... A feeling that was unique... so british. Sometimes this feeling lurks through on their later albums... Thanks for presenting and going back in time!
Thanks for completing this Doug. I know that Steve Harris is critical of the way the production turned out on this debut but I still think it's an incredible record, the Paul Dianno era Maiden will always be my favourite!
I agree with everyone else saying do Killers next. Heard it for the first time a month or so ago after avoiding the Di'Anno albums for a few decades. I definitely prefer Bruce, but they aren't bad. Killers sounds a lot more like the Maiden I'm used to than their debut did. Might as well do them in order. Just make sure you do the versions of the albums that have the bonus track included.
Whole Killers album. Thank you. It´s the most "weird" Maiden album IMO. Very all over the place, still raw and leaning towards its predecessor. The big turn was around the corner with Bruce Dickinson joining and Di'Anno going, but two first Iron Maiden albums are pair, then the others. Do Killers, I think you´ll like it !
22 Acacia Avenue is the continuation of Charlotte the Harlot on Number of the Beast.

This was a total gamechanger for me. I clearly remember my first encounter with Iron Maiden. On October 9th, 1980, I was heading to Stockholm to see KISS and they had this totally unknown band as an opening act - Iron Maiden. They totally blew my mind with their intense show playing almost the complete first album. The first thing I did the day after the show was to head down to the record store and buy the album. This was the setlist in Stockholm on October 9, 1980: 1. The Ides of March (from the second, not yet released album "Killers") 2. Sanctuary 3. Prowler 4. Remember Tomorrow 5. Running Free 6. Transylvania 7. Phantom of the Opera 8. Iron Maiden Encore: Drifter (from the second, not yet released album "Killers") I've seen them 6 times: 1980-10-09, Support @ Eriksdalshallen, Stockholm, Sweden 1981-09-08, Headline @ Göta Lejon, Stockholm, Sweden 1983-06-05, Headline @ Johanneshovs Isstadion, Stockholm, Sweden 1984-11-02, Headline @ Johanneshovs Isstadion, Stockholm, Sweden 2013-07-13, Headline @ Friends Arena, Stockholm, Sweden 2018-06-07, Headline @ Sweden Rock Festival, Sweden
Yes, I would love if you did Killers, and then worked through their remaining albums. Also, Philly is where I saw many metal shows in the 80s. Was so great!
As Bruce is doing some solo stuff now, it would be apropriate to listen to one of his last solo albums. The last three are really good, but The Tyranny of Souls does not have a weak moment.
I totally agree that you should do "Killers" next! As for the song "Charlotte the Harlot," I always wanted to get an exclusive T-shirt with the bass line on my back and just laugh when people asked what it is! You mention that "Someone is love with Charlotte," and hint that this isn't the end of the...saga. Well, there is a song on IM's third release, their first with replacement singer Bruce Dickenson, called, "22 Acacia Avenue," which is a follow-up to "Charlotte the Harlot." Younger audiences don't always "get it."
The albums celebration gig for making it the fourth place, at The Ruskin arms is extremly cool and good. The quality on the sound and video might not be the best, but I think it really shows Maidens rawness back in the day. I really love to watch that show from time to time :D
Hey Doug! Been viewing you forever. An important note about Killers, there is a bonus track called "Twilight Zone" which is not included on every remastered version of the album! Spotify unfortunately removed the track a number of years ago when they updated the album to a new remastered version. It's absolutely worth checking out as it is one of my favorites!

Been waiting for side 2 reaction... Charlotte the harlot is one of my favourite Maiden songs
If you're going to get into Killers Prodigal son is A MUST!
Such a cool melding of punk and prog and metal. Its really the roots of thrash. I love the rawness of the Paul Dianno stuff.
Thanks for completing this Doug. I know that Steve Harris is critical of the way the production turned out on this debut but I still think it's an incredible record, the Paul Dianno era Maiden will always be my favourite!
Thanks! Great one!
I am seeing Paul Di’Anno live next weekend. Not what he used to be but I cannot wait!
my favorite maiden album
You can find Charlotte the Harlot at 22 Acacia Avenue, another great song you should listen to!
This was the setlist in Stockholm on October 9, 1980:
1. The Ides of March (from the second, not yet released album "Killers")
2. Sanctuary
3. Prowler
4. Remember Tomorrow
5. Running Free
6. Transylvania
7. Phantom of the Opera
8. Iron Maiden
Encore: Drifter (from the second, not yet released album "Killers")
I've seen them 6 times:
1980-10-09, Support @ Eriksdalshallen, Stockholm, Sweden
1981-09-08, Headline @ Göta Lejon, Stockholm, Sweden
1983-06-05, Headline @ Johanneshovs Isstadion, Stockholm, Sweden
1984-11-02, Headline @ Johanneshovs Isstadion, Stockholm, Sweden
2013-07-13, Headline @ Friends Arena, Stockholm, Sweden
2018-06-07, Headline @ Sweden Rock Festival, Sweden
Yes, I would love if you did Killers, and then worked through their remaining albums. Also, Philly is where I saw many metal shows in the 80s. Was so great!
I love the raw, punky, early Maiden, which they evolved into melodic, complex sound.
I can't wait for you to review the Killers album.
Iron Maiden and Killers my two favorite albums of theirs. 👍
Go see them live in 2024. on the Future Past Tour US leg!
As Bruce is doing some solo stuff now, it would be apropriate to listen to one of his last solo albums. The last three are really good, but The Tyranny of Souls does not have a weak moment.
The Chemical Wedding 100%
Strange world is so amazing. Up there with songs like No Quarter by Zeppelin
next time *killers" album for sure...!
Paul Di’anno was so good! Love Bruce but some of my favorites are from the first two albums
Would love for you to go to a Maiden concert. You would absolutely love it. Up the Irons
Ok - now time for side 1 of Killers
Do Killers next for sure! And definitely go see them live!
All the albums in order please Doug 😁🤘
I really hope you listen to all of their albums, Iron Maiden is truly the best metal band🤘
22 Acacia Avenue (from the number of the beast album) is also a song about Charlotte
Yes you should do Killers next. Fantastic album as well with Paul 🤘
Yeah, bro, you should go to Killers next!!!
Charlotte was in "22 Acacia Avenue". BTW, as it said on the Big Single album cover, Eddie Loves Charlotte.
Sure Dr Helvering,Killers is another great album to talk about.Thank you, cheers🙏😉
