- महात्मा गांधी की हत्या देश की राजधानी दिल्ली में एक प्रार्थना सभा के लिए जाते वक्त की गई थी. हत्यारा 10वीं फेल गोडसे दक्षिणपंथी पार्टी हिंदू महासभा का सक्रिय सदस्य था और राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ का पूर्व सदस्य था. संघ के साथ उसके रिश्ते गांधी हत्या पर्यंत जारी रहे, इससे कटाव दुराव का कोई सबूत उपलब्ध नहीं है. कुंठित, हिंसक और हीन भावना से ग्रस्त गोडसे और उसकी पार्टी को लगता था कि गांधी मुसलमानों और पाकिस्तान के समर्थक थे. इससे भी ज्यादा संघ, हिंदू महासभा और गोडसे को यकीन था कि गांधी हिंदू राष्ट्र की राह में सबसे बड़ा रोड़ा थे. भारत का बंटवारा उन्होंने किया और ऐसा करके उन्होंने हिंदुओं के साथ विश्वासघात किया था.
गांधी की हत्या के एक साल बाद ट्रायल कोर्ट ने गोडसे को मौत की सजा दी. हाई कोर्ट की सुनवाई में इस सज़ा को बरकरार रखा गया. जिसके बाद नवंबर 1949 को नाथूराम गोडसे को फ़ांसी दे दी गई. इस हत्या की साजिश में गोडसे के साथी रहे नारायण आप्टे को भी मौत की सज़ा सुनाई गई थी, जबकि अन्य छह लोगों को आजीवन कारावास की सज़ा दी गई. इन सबके गुरू रहे विनायक दामोदर सावरकर भी इस हत्या में एक आरोपी थे जो किसी तरह से इस आरोप से बच निकले.

Saddest part about "Hindus" is that the man, Nathuram, they are trying to make a hero now didn't lay his hands on the British neither did his gang. Yet, they felt Gandhi was the one dividing India. How dumb one has to be to realize that more than one dozen princely states and over 200 years of British occupation were fighting against our freedom as well and it's not that Gandi and others (other than those not on the Congress's platform) had any powers to negotiate.
Remember folks, when INC govt. resigned against British raj's decision to push India into WWII it was Muslim League and Hindu Mahasabha joined hands to run the govt. and these two were also supportive of the two-nation theory but now blame Nehru and Gandhi for that. Whether you like or hate Gandhi and his philosophies the man was respected and followed by millions around the globe.
