I went hunting in a swamp for ducks in Dry Creek Louisiana. I caught a viral Encephalitis in the swamp. When I returned to California through Houston, I was on the plane and I thought I had a flu and a serious neck ache. When I landed, my wife, who is a nurse practioner, took one look at me, my eyes etc and she said, we're going straight to my hospital's ER!
I was in the hospital for six days , I had a spinal tap to confirm the Encephalitis and suffered 14 seizures i have no memory of. My hospital bill was exactly $123, 446.84! My insurance deductible was $1000.00. Yes, health insurance is very important.

PS, Most hospital will take you, if u don't have insurance, and bill you. Most State have programs for Low income, Seniors, and the disable. you can get free health care in america from metro hospital i did years ago. i feel the same way paul does i over worry about everything and go to the dr. the majority of the time they have no clue wtf they are doing. but ive had so many friends die instantly from things. like i had a friend die from pneumonia, and i had similar symptoms a month after. the drs get pissed that your taking up their time and when you explain to them you just lost someone and its better to be safe then sorry they are so dehumanized they make you feel like shit for coming in. my dad was so sick and tired of judgemental drs he stayed at home and chose to die. i even had another friend who was in the hospital and she decided to just leave and die on the beach instead of deal with their shit
In the US the doctors need to take insurance if they get sued and the insurance is the reason why the health treatment cost so much. And since it cost a lot and life is precious, they sell you an insurance in case you get sick because you cant pull out 200K for an operation. Here in Canada, when you get to the hospital they make you sign a paper saying that they're not responsible for any mistakes by their personnel. Think about it, when you have a car accident you have to fight with the car insurance company to get paid. So you think they would act differently with your life?

I have never been overnight in a hospital, but I was blessed to not ever having a medical bill while in the Navy.. but my wife having a baby is a HUGE difference being in the military and out of the Navy... had to pay monthly bills of $10,000 of $100 & $200 every month verses not paying nothing while being active duty!!! Sad situation I guess.
My ambulance ride and day at hospital was $14,000. Kidney stones.
