Red Letter Media Animated - Speed 4

- It's Spitballs! This is essentially a pilot for an official Red Letter Media animated series. In this series, Mike, Jay and Rich all play versions of themselves as L.A. losers who pitch movie and TV show ideas wherever and whenever they can, always unprepared and off the top of their heads. In this episode, they score a meeting with Jan de Bont and pitch him their idea for another Speed sequel.
We teamed up with our favorite animator, Wee Zachary P ( / weezacharyp ) to create this short, an idea based on the many animations people have done of us ranting weird things and spitballing. Enjoy!

“Speed 4 and the gimmick is that it’s so fast it went straight past speed 3”
Rich is so endlessly entertaining.
Father Ted did Speed 3
Speed 4: Runaway race
"Too fast to live, too slow to die!"
The bus that couldn't slow down 4 sure.
@@bryanmcfadden4071 "How'd you get interested in that type of thing?"
They could literally replace all the writers in Hollywood with Rich and save billions
Great to see that the sound booth is paying off.
Thanks to the demigod and half time carpenter - Rich Evans.
We now get to experience how space cop was written, by three hack frauds quickly shoving ideas together 5 minutes before filming began. All thanks to the magic of a sound booth!
@@ninjalokust Before filming began? You mean on the set after action has been called surely?
@@sirbobulous Fun fact: Half of the script was rewritten after mike sobered up and realized they had written a bunch of trash and already spent 5000 dollars on set and costumes plus another 10k for the patton cameo. He thought they needed to try and fix it as they went. So in essence we are both correct.
Is it though?
I'm sad that they were unable to make this before the original members passed away, but the voice actors really nailed the spirit of the original cast. They really did manage to put lightning in a bottle twice, and I can't wait for the sequels.
I think we need to give Ellen DeGeneres more credit for providing all the photos of Rich Evans so the algorithm could build a more pleasant looking deep lake based on how he looked before the lupis really took its toll.
@@JokerFace090 Lupus? I thought it was the super covid variant that got him. Damn, and to think, it’s never lupus.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!
I thought they had to amputate his head due to diabetes.
Don't joke.
Mike still keeps calling her Sandra BOLLOCKS all those years later, same with Basil Oregano. It's like poetry, it rhymes.
"Sandra's Bollocks"
@@ericv00 I love Sandra's bollocks in Demolition Man

Nevermind the Bullock, Here's the Sandra Pistols
This is the most animated the RLM members have ever been.
and the most sober Mike has ever been
Rich Evans is like Michelle Kwan compared to the other RLM guys but yes
Well, on their own projects. Ive seen Mike Red and Dick Media this animated elsewhere.
Not true, there's the 2.5 hours RLM Redux, edited by Coppola.
@@thomasgiles2876 True, but Jay Letter’s early indie work has always been my favorite.
I need to see Mike’s Gremlins 3 pitch animated like this
You've seen Key & Peele's Gremlins 2, yeah?
I thought they did one already for gremlins 3 it’s only like 2 minutes though
Warner may have something to say about it again
Along with Critters 12 or whatever.
It's already exists use CZcams search bar lol
I've learned more about script writing and story structure in this 10 minutes than I have in the entirety of my 25 years of not knowing anything about either of those.
now I wanna see them make a parody of Master Class trailers
Quick note: In Ireland we had a comedy series called 'Father Ted' about 3 priests. One episode was called 'Speed 3'. In the episode a father dougal has to drive a milk float (A very slow milk lorry). The original milk driver, Pat Mustard, was sacked for having sex on the job. As vengence for getting sacked (and the part father dougal had in the sacking) Pat Mustard places a bomb on the milk float. When the Milk float goes above 5 mph the bomb is armed, and when the Milk float goes below 5 mph it explodes. Great episode. When 'Speed 4' was mentioned I initially thought it would be a tribute to Father Ted
Yes!!!
I really liked Father Ted. Got any other Irish comedies to recommend like it or Mrs. Brown’s Boys?
@@Viceroy_Sundercles_III Derry Girls is great
@@deetvleet Thanks! That’s been on my “I should check into this” list for awhile but I’ll definitely check it out now.
I LOVE MY BRICK
Honestly, turning RLM’s tendency to pitch ludicrous yet amazing sequels, prequels or alternative versions of films into an animated series is a great idea with endless potential. Can’t wait to see more!
I am scared, because too many of their passed bad ideas and pitches have been used or done worse bei the mainstream media...
You're so right, they could probably make like 100 episodes of this with just the content they already uploaded.
Slapping the word 'animated' onto a youtube channel name has failed spectacularly in the past, so i had low expectations for this, but its actually really good. I hope they do more
I already imagined animated versions of a lot of Mike's pitches in my head.
Looking forward to all the seasons.
The Ghostbusters ones next please
Why doesn't Mike, the largest of the Red Letter Media, not simply eat the others?
That is a valid question
Futurama!
They must be saving that for sweeps week
This is CZcams's most foolish program!
Mike is the key to all of this. He's a much larger character than we've ever had before.
I always call this Channel, "Mike makes up a better movie plot than the writers did, off the top of his head." Glad to see this.
Or "Rich calls what's going to happen 90 minutes before it does."
I love that the gimmick of Speed 4 is that its so fast it blew right past Speed 3, but then the main vehicle in the movie can't go over 5 MPH.
keanu recognizing sandra on tv, through the window of a far away car, while she has a helmet covering everything but her eyes is hilarious
Maybe not with her name on the side of the car? hehe
@@ClayMann Is the name on the side of the car a nascar thing? Sorry, I'm not a redneck, I don't know these things.
And also instantly knowing there's a bomb on the car. haha
Jay being the tallest one is just comedy gold.
And Rich having hair :D :D
In animation, ANYTHING is possible!
It warms the cockles of my cynical heart to see this talented animator evolve from making animations of the RLM crew on the side, to having a full-fledged animation on the official channel.
Jay being as tall as Mike and Rich is the funniest part of this series.
One thing I love about RLM is just how much they do, without any huge buildup and without trying to hype anything up, they just do it. Love you Hack Frauds to pieces
Thanks. I’m not affiliated with RLM in any way. But thanks.
Their genuine nature is why I come back year after year. They are honest, not dick influencers like so man YTers, and refuse to sell out.
Space Cop tho
They forgot to animate the box Jay was standing on the whole episode
Weeb advice
They also forgot to add in some off-the-wall reference to Star Trek for Mike, a horror movie reference for Jay, and a diabetes reference for Rich. What kind of hacks wrote the script?
This is the most alive Rich Evans has ever looked in the past 10 years. Loved it.
I know that this is not the most viewed RLM video of recent years, but I love it. I’ve rewatched it several times.
Thanks!
@@RedLetterMedia same. With the second one out, I've watched these like 10 times they're great!
The rest of the episodes should be paywalled behind the new RLM+ streaming service

I’d buy that for a dollar!
Don't you mean Quibi? Jay's favourite streaming service.
@@AxeMan808very cool

I can confidently say that Speed 4 is already on track to be one of the most popular and influential pilots of all time
Very cool.
arent they racecar drivers?
I want a Speed: Origins, where it takes place in caveman times around the time the wheel was invented.

Can't wait for Disney to make a live action remake of this show
With Chris Hemsworth as Rich Evans, Lizzo as Jay and 147 CGI artists as Mike voiced by AI Wilford Brimley.
That is going to make tiny heterosexual business man Ben Shapiro so mad
RLM gets Disney plused
Live action Red Letter Media Animated... Billion dollar idea
They could sell a shit ton of merch by turning Mike into a baby. They can even keep old fans happy by not explicitly saying that Baby Mike and Mike are the same character, they just have to make Baby Mike the same species.
This needs to be a series.
Jack Quaid confirmed to have pitched Mike's idea to Christopher Nolan
Christopher? Christopher Nolan?
Top hat monkey goes west is going to be so good...
*Tophat Monkey Goes West* it’s perfect in its simplicity and complex in its subtlety
Yeah, he pitched it, but it ws Uwe Boll the one who picked it up
*sad trombone noises*
But did jack give Christopher Nolan's pitch to rlm?
Jay is the size of a normal person my suspension of disbelief has been utterly and irrevocably shattered
Yup, I knew something was wrong when Mike didn't make any Star Trek references.
I watched the rest of the animator's RLM videos and it seems to be a running joke that he draws Jay as way taller than Rich Evans and Mike. He does some really good animation
Didn’t have Mikes Vulcan shaped ear either 😢
Not bad as a pilot, but I have some studio notes.
1- They should save money by doing it live action.
2- Set the series in Wisconsin instead of LA to trick "moo-cow flyover consumers" into thinking the characters are "human beings".
3- Film the series entirely in front of a curtain in a haunted warehouse, for some reason.
I like the idea of shooting it in Wisconsin. Maybe they can record some authentic Wisconsinite activities: Drinking, bar fights, rodeo...
I think they need to learn from all the other big podcasts. They'll just need a professional set so people know they are credible. Can you just imagine how happy Mike would be if he got to interview William Shatner? I think there is a new StarTrek MMO coming out that Mike could talk to him about. It'd be really cool, they could probably score a bunch of free promo codes for the game to do as a giveaway and drive traffic to the podcast.
Release it in theatres and watch the box office explode !
I like your suggestions, but perhaps have some sort of gimmick. Like, perhaps being repairmen for a defunct technology? Betamax repairmen perhaps.....
Underrated comment
Can’t believe they got famous voice actor Rich Evans for this.
He only does the dialogue. They got a soundalike to sing the songs.
Or am I thinking of Michael Jackson?
also i believe they used a laughing double
Why does Jay as a coffee shop barista somehow just make sense? 😂 This was great.
Because he's a hipster dork?
He's the only one that doesn't need a medication break within a 3 hour window
Because Jay is an art weirdo
He is easily the most attractive member of RLM.
He does love coffee.
They really nailed their faces. It’s so real. It’s like poetry, the chaos rhymes. Hopefully it will work.
It rhymes
They may have went too far in a few places.
Jay is the key to all this
It's stylistically designed to be that way.
It's gonna be great.
Felt very much like an old Home Movies episode with Brandon telling one of his pitches to his friends or mom…
Good taste. 👌
videofilms
it's time to pay the price
I thought the exact same thing, I'd love if this had that Squigglevision animation style!
Cool, I now feel the need to binge that entire series again.
I like that halfway through Speed 4 becomes a soft reboot of Wacky Racers with Keanu as Dick Dastardly
Amazing how Mike can say "IndyCar" and "Indy 500" with complete lucidity, and then question if it's actually NASCAR.
The "ten gallon hat" is one of the best visual gags these RLM animations has ever had
That was pretty much the best part for me, as well as Mike jumping in front of Rich and cutting him off -- because it so visually represents what Mike does to Jay and Rich all the time when he cuts them off.
Keanus walk cycle is so on point
"Heres the gimmick. Its Speed 4. It went right past Speed 3," gave me huge "Home Movies" flashbacks. 💀
Just about to watch it, despite it being way past my bedtime. But my hope is that its because they know about Speed 3, from Fr Ted. 'There's a bomb. On the milk float'.
Finally, the RLM gang have secured a method of continuing despite their withering old bodies - the cartoon world !!!!
Now that they've got artificial bodies, it's time to turn them into AI so they can never die no matter how much they wish for it.
Brutal.
@@cradiculous I for one welcome our AI overlords.
Reminds me of animated trailer park boys 😬
Just like Mark Hamill!
Watch the Father Ted episode 'Speed 3' from the 90s to see this idea done but with a Milkfloat in Ireland!🤣
I love how Mike makes it IndyCar, NASCAR, drag racing and Death Race all at once. If nothing else, it would be one spectacle of a race.
Metal Gear?
This can be a regular thing gentlemen, I love it. Next pitch you should do is “A Quiet Place 3: Silence no Longer” in which you have to constantly scream so you throw off the monsters’ hearing and if you ever stop, that’s how they can find and kill you.
Isn't that the plot to "A Quiet Place 2: Oh No we killed the most popular character from the first movie. How do we get him in this movie more?" 😄
How do they sleep? Oh they could play their screams through a Bluetooth speaker or something.
@@kylesoler4139 They're just blasting heavy metal music out of boomboxes they have taped to their bodies throughout the entire movie so loud you can't hear any of them speak.
@@Noobie2k7 So it's still, effectively, a silent film.
Maybe it can feature all kinds of slapstick and pratfalls, in the tradition of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton? Only instead of tinkly, upbeat piano music, the score is Slayer.
I love the fact that Jan has the poster for "Roar!" on his office wall.
Honestly my favorite thing was the guys trying to work out the difference between Indycar and NASCAR.
There's a difference?
Mike thinking rednecks have something to do with Formula One is hilarious
Pretty sure they do. Ever been to Indy?
"I can't stand that womans laughter" is one of the greatest jokes Mike has ever uttered.
I love how even when they are pitching the dumbest movie possible, RLM manages to create something that still has a cohesive and entertaining narrative.
Jan de Bont also directed Twister AND did the cinematography for ROAR. Yes, "that" Roar 😂😂😂
I'm disappointed in the artistic liberties taken with Jay Bauman's height.
The animator got a LOT of mileage out of Keanu walking places
kinda how walking works
@@adraino7345 Not if you only walk for 5279 feet.
Had to get their money's worth out of that walking graphic. It was AMAZING!
@@merlinthegray You did get it

I love how the actual pitch doesn't feel like a skit, but just like one of the many other pitches they did before. Great animation too. This could be good.
Well it better be good... Hollywood has shit the bed so badly the last few years that it's almost impossible to do Half in the Bag anymore... they need something for backfill.
I thought that the pitch was pulled from an earlier video and then framed. The audio quality is different.
Great content though.
I thought I had seen all the insane shit that is out there, but then you literally animated two guys just shoveling human pieces into an ambulance. Thanks guys!
This has the energy of an Zelda CD-i animation
Which is another way of saying the animation matches the tone perfectly!
No?
You can _immediately_ tell where the script stopped and the improv began and I love it
The most caroonish thing about this is the idea that Rich Evans owns a bicycle
not anymore!
Well, you need a bicycle to get around LA. Hollywood, baby!
they are trying to ban cars, so in Seattle they are replacing all the streets with bicycle lanes
@@Marinealver As a Seattlite, that's a lovely thought, but it's a city full of hills, so it'll never happen. Unless we tunnel our bike lanes underground like dwarves.

This spoof script sounds just stupid enough to plausibly be real by modern standards... LOVE IT!

Jay as Guybrush Threepwood has awoken something in me 🥲
you're not alone
I was looking for a comment like this. He really does both look and sound like him.
Confirmed for Guybrush
Same thought
@@commenter381 lol what a reference! 😂
They somehow fully misrepresented and fully represented what its like living in LA, i love it
When something simultaneously rocks and sucks, you can be both right and wrong and still nail it.
The only misrepresented thing is they actually got to pitch something
I’m from LA, I’m failing to see how they misrepresented it.
The human ray of sunshine known as Rich Evans isn’t there.
They also did that with the racing, somehow.
Little did we know this would be the last video they ever uploaded
Really enjoyed this, would love to see more 😊
Also there was a Speed 3....It was an excellent episode of Father Ted. 😂
I like how the artist has been very flattering with the likenesses. I've never seen them looking so lean and healthy.
Yes. The bags under Rich's eyes are very subtle. Quite the upgrade.
He looks like a race swap o the Freedo Bandido!
This feel like the three of them just started talking randomly on a Tuesday morning and happen to be recording, then slapped a framing device on either end. I think, I love it.
Hollywood wishes it was clever enough to come up with something as good as “it’s so fast it skipped the third film”
We really need more of this. This was hilarious.
This is borderline experimental
I CLAPPED BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT IT IS!
THEY BROKE NEW GROUND!
JUST KEEP HITTING THOSE HOME RUNS!
I don't like weird experimental artsy fartsy stuff: I'm more of a structure guy.
This line will never get old.
This could be a show on adult swim. Just watching these three come up with new movies
that would be brilliant
You sucked as Luigi, go back to Day Man vs Night Man
Them being cameos in Smiling Friends again (Mike was in it) would be good enough
I'm so happy you guys did this. RLM is more entertaining than anything I've seen on streaming since... Yeah.
We need atleast another 20 seasons of this shit! It is DOPE.
100%
I wasn't sure at first, but once they got to the part where they were actually pitching the movie, the pace felt alot better and everything else clicked. This has some pretty strong potential, would be cool seeing guest animators and different styles to go with the rlm crew banter. Regardless of how you guys do it, I would love to see more of this style of content!
Same, I almost turned it off in the first minute but I'm glad I didn't because the pitch was incredible
Yeah that was my reaction as well. RLM are extremely good improvisors, but their acting and writing are... lacking. Acting is hard or else everyone would do it.
yeah skip whatever kinda story they are trying to tell and just animate different improvised pitches they record.
pretty sure they cut the movie pitch from a different recording and spliced the animation around it
@@Uhbliviunis that right? I wanna see where it comes from. I always enjoy their rants on BotW.
The guy getting his baseball glove out to catch the race car driver is the MVP of this. 6:05
The animator added tons of cheeky little things that made me smile, but that one was when I knew we had a real winner.
Pitch meetings are tight! I imagine making the animation was super easy, barely an inconvenience.
Wow, wow, wow!
Wow!
Animators did amazing, the shot of Keanu at the bar made me burst out laughing
And how the cutout of Keanu was exactly the same as him at the bar.
The visual gag with the ‘Texas’ hat is insanely good 😭🤣

Its past your bedtime mister
Your spitballin' of movies that don't exist is one of my favorite things, so I couldn't be happier with this new direction. "We don't know what's in that snow."
I recognized this animation/art style immediately and I'm so glad to see something official with Wee Zach involved. Reaaaaallllyyyy hope there's more of this.
The brilliance of Bullock pulling out an old school phone horn to call Keanu while browsing on her smartphone is the best moment of the animation
Bollocks
Wow, Rich is a really good voice actor. No joke, he sounds so natural. Mike and Jay are not bad, but Rich is on another level.
That's why he gets paid the big bucks. Hollywood Superstar Rich Evans.

This is a good way to hear RLM's pitch meetings. Animated as they detail every plot point.
It's nice to see some life in their eyes for once.
