Lost for Words is a story about how simple #ActsofLove can be the most powerful.
Watch the behind the scenes here: bit.ly/LostForWords-BTS
This film was inspired by the true story a young Burmese refugee who overcomes his challenges and fears with the help of a dedicated mentor who invests the time and energy into helping him. In turn, he pays it forward by reaching out and helping somebody else as well.
Lost for Words was produced to support the Jeremy Lin Foundation (@jlinfoundation) and PAIR Houston (@pairhouston), an organization that works with refugee youth and the winner of last year's Making A Difference campaign.
Go to www.jeremylinfoundation.org to join the Acts of Love Campagin. Together we can show acts of love and service to those around us.

Jeremy this video has really touched me as a "stranger" myself. I have moved to the usa in 2006 because of the war in Lebanon. Believe me it was not easy at all adapting to the different culture and to all the bullying that i received. I am a 17 year old basketball player now and I am trying to succeed in the sport that I love in a strange country, kinda like you. I am inspired by your story, and for that I thank you Jeremy.

This hits close to home for me; I have a lot of friends who came to the US from their native countries(some of which are in really bad condition) only to get bullied by ignorant shits. For them it became increasingly hard to connect to people who weren't in similar situations, they stuck together and pushed people away. If it weren't for a series of uncanny coincidences I don't think I'd have made such great friends. They aren't foreigners; they're just people like us. So next time you want to be an ignorant dick and mess with the transfer student; take 2 seconds and try to step into their shoes. Jeremy; you're awesome for making this vid.

What an incredible video Klo Lay Pla, Jubilee Project, and Jeremy Lin! This video hits home because of the work I do and the Karen families we see everyday in our local communities. I am incredibly happy and excited to forward this video clip to all the folks I know because it is encouraging to see such a powerful voice (yet often quiet) among us. Plus, it is so heart warming to see a familiar community/face of a Karen boy with Jeremy Lin. I wouldn't have imagined but then again, what do I know about Jeremy and Jubilee Project. What a delight you all are! God bless you all with strength, courage and an abundance of resources to continue the work you do for Him.

Gives you perspective, seeing this in 2016. with the heated presidential race, the xenophobia. We have a chance as a society to make an impact in these childrens lives by giving them a fresh start. However we are letting the politics, the hatred, the fear get the best of us. This is how we make America great again not by building walls, stereotyping religions and races. This is the land of diversity, freedom, liberty, oppertunties, not hatred and fear.

I'm not an immigrant, I'm an AMERICAN BORN Chinese student. I attended to Kindergarten in Brooklyn that is very mixed, but was picked on because I was Chinese. I then moved into Flushing, but went to an elementary school in Whitestone, that is not very mixed. The majority race was WHITE, with a couple of blacks and hispanics, Asians being the lowest. I was picked on and bullied up until I was in Junior High because I was Chinese. Even while I was in Junior High, I was still picked on just not as much.
I SPEAK English. I WRITE English. I READ English. But yet, I was still picked on because I was Chinese. Why? I don't know. I tried to stand up for myself, I told my teachers and their response was "Don't tattle". I told my parents, and their reply was "They're kids they don't know any better".
What am I left to do? Nothing but to keep it inside and just hope they would stop. Which didn't. I was always picked on. Whenever the topic of being bullied comes up, people always say: Stand up for yourself, speak up! It doesn't always work. I've tried doing that and no one helped me. I was left on my own. I don't know why I was bullied. I don't know why I'm the target. I'm not the only Asian in my class(es). Nor am I mean to my classmates. I remember, new students would come into my class and I had to be their translator. For half the school year, I helped translate and taught them English. When they were able to speak well enough, they befriended the 'bullies' instead and in return bullied me. Because no one helped me, I was left to keep everything inside of myself resulting in myself having a very low self esteem. Even now, when my husband asks me why I don't just speak up I respond to him because I grown up realizing even when I speak up, no one helps you. Even till this day, I still keep most of my thoughts to myself. I tried to make the newly transferred students feel better by being their friends, and teaching them English. But instead, they decided to be friends with the 'bullies' and bully me in return. It lead to me having a hard time trusting others. I feel like 'trust' can be easily broken once they find a better opportunity.
I have a daughter now and I try my best to set up a future for her where she would not have to go through this. But it is very hard. I will speak up of my story of how my childhood was like to her. Not to have her feel bad for her mom, but so she knows no matter how hard life can be, there would always be tomorrow. And tomorrow would be a brighter day. It's hard to get through, but once you get through it would get better.

    • @kingmang12

***** dude,,Shut the hell up!! Are you communist mainlanders too? I'm tired of Communist mainlanders. They think everything from Taiwan and Hongkong is belong to them. Fuck no man, I hate every Chinese from China. Period. Stop coming to US. I have no mercy for communist Chinese..

    • @slotsize
      @slotsize Před 9 lety +3

Aung Lin What are you then? Someone from Taiwan/HK who has came to the US? First of all, learn better English if you want to start trolling and insulting people. Second, HK is part of China since 1997. Third, technically we can say Taiwan is also a part of China because when speaking to others bringing the thought up of going to China, Taiwan is included. So, by rule of the Common Law it would make it true. If you don't know what Common Law means, it's what it sounds like, when something occurs and everyone knows of it but that handful decide to say no, it's invalid because the majority of people agree.
Also, you comparing my family, relative, and ancestors to mainlanders and degrading them is so ignorant of you. I may be ignorant to how China functions because I never went to China, and just heard stories of China. But there's so many different parts of China. There's the rural and urban parts, just like in the US. Obviously different parts of a country would have different teachings. You can't just base a whole country from visuals you see, or because you feel insulted by other Chinese people from the Chinese community. I personally don't LOVE the new Chinese immigrants in my neighborhood because a majority of them came from the country side where they were not educated the slightest bit. So they don't even know simple manners such as covering their coughs, or sneezes. So this obviously gives the whole neighborhood (and my whole city) a negative image towards Chinese immigrants. But, that being said, my family was born, and educated in a major city in China. So I find my family to be very different from those other new immigrants. So you comparing a whole country is just ignorant of you.
If you're trying to troll and make yourself appear bigger, you've failed. Because you're just making yourself look stupid and small.
BTW don't be hating on immigrants because your family were once immigrants. Remember, they sacrificed a lot to attempt to give you a better future and eduction that they didn't receive back 'home'.

All I know was Hi, Hello and bye.
And I was the only Karen student.
I got bullies and other students telling me to go back to my country. It hurts so much and when I get home I cried and don't want to go to school the next day...
But I can't give up because my parents came here for our better education, more freedom and a good future that's why I keep trying hard to get through everyday.
