Can a Caravan Replace an Overlanding Rig? Vagabond Teardrop Caravan Walk Around & Review Ep7

  • Wrapping up the Vagabond Rogue Teardrop Caravan review with one last challenge! The spectacular, Swart Berg Pass with a wild descent into Gamkaskloof, Die Hel! An adventure of note for this little Caravan because this is not the type of place you take a typical caravan, but the rogue is far from typical! I give you my final thoughts and feedback on the towing experience, how the Toyota Hilux handled it all, we look at fuel consumption, and a detailed walk around of the whole 'van. I ponder if it's the right solution for people who want to get into Overlanding, and then finally make my way to Mossel Bay to drop it off in the safe hands of Yumar from Go Prepared 4x4, who is the Garden Route Dealer for Vagabond and will have this unit available as a Demo for people, so if you want to get in touch with him or Vagabond to find out more about the Vagabond Rogue; check the links below!

    It looks great! The only drawback possibly is escaping from a frontal charge by a pachyderm or 3.

    I went camping last week with my Vagabond. I tow it with a 1.5 diesel Renault Duster. Normally I get around 5.0 l/100km. After the weekend, when I got home I was on 5.9l/100km. Now this was mostly straight roads, no mountains and about 30 km dirt roads. I was seriously impressed.

    Biggest advantage I think the Vagabond has compared to conventional offroad campers/caravans, is the weight. The light weight plays a big role when towing offroad

    A really nice review of the Rouge. Definitely an option like you pointed for people who do not do heavy off-road 4x4ing.
    Maybe a small solar panel on the top just to make it a bit more self-sufficient, to keep the battery topped up. Another great and informative video.

      @@RoamOverlanding that's a great little caravan! One thing I think it could use is maybe some 33 inch tall tires like on you Hi-Lux with a smidge more ground clearance if you had to traverse some nasty off road trails. I second a good strong solar panel and removing the microwave for another proper gas cooker and a second outdoor table like you mentioned in the video. Overall an excellent set-up. You have some amazing scenery over there in South Africa! That gorge is awesome, a lot of the desert areas in SA remind me of the desert Southwest of USA, like New Mexico (I lived in NM for 6 years) and Arizona in particular. Big forested woods could be like Northwestern Illinois (where I live), Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.

      I am frequently amused how these 4x4 adventure overlanders tackle the identical roads that farmers regularly drive on with standard bakkies and hardly spare a thought for the difficutly or the 4x4 grading.

  • @oldbloke204
    @oldbloke204 Před 3 lety +2

    Nice looking little beastie tbh.
    I am in Australia so we are spoiled for choice but I think that this one looks really good.
    In terms of offroad the solid axle and whatever that cable was hanging down looked a bit vulnerable.
    My idea is to go somewhere, drop the trailer as a base camp, do daytrips and then return so something like this would be perfect.
    Personally I would do away with the shore power stuff and run full 12 volt with solar and an inverter if needed.
    That particular technology is getting pretty awesome these days so wouldn't be hard to do but maybe expensive.
    Thanks for the video it is nice to see other places.

    Beautiful, it was interesting to watch this series as I am a trailer tent caravaner. In my case I have to be a bit more static whereas the Rogue looks like it is quick enough as a one night stay before moving on setup friendly. Landscape was incredible. Thank You for sharing.

    Not manny people use trailers long term overlanding in Africa...it adds up to the cost among other unconvinient stuff..personal thought....u can find alot of them on sides of the roads ... short camping..locally...why not...depends where you live...where i live and lots of parts in europe you would struggle to turn around that rig😀😀😀...if you dont want to go to dedicated camp sites...great video...i like your work...safe travels...
