Meepo Voyager Gear Drive, Fixing My Biggest Issue With The System

  • Meepy Voyager has been a staple in the eskate world for a few years now. taking what once was system reserved for large 2-1 boards and putting it into a street/boosted style board was crazy for range. now adding gear drives to the mix kicks it up a level.

    Great video Drew! The gear drive looks so sick! I love the idea of having all the benefits of a belt drive without having to worry about snapping belts! I feel like I could really daily this setup even in the wet Irish weather! I hope you’re enjoying it bro!

    Great video as usual. One internal debate I've had on light, more commuter-friendly boards like this is whether gear drive is worth the weight. I say this as someone who made their 12s4p DIY with all steel gear drives, but I'm now questioning it on light boards despite the performance improvement. Ultimately I suppose it comes down to individual rider preference and what one considers heavy when they pick their board up.

    • @DrewElia
      @DrewElia  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Great point! The little bit of weight over Almost no maintenance, plus a level of “better efficiency “ trade off those

    Awesome they offer an easier assmbled option. Street wheel compatibility 🤩 interestin that this gear drive is smoother on this than their belt drive.

    • @DrewElia
      @DrewElia  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yes, I would assume the 3 gear would be the reason why, but it was just smoother over all

    Here's a good question, is the gear drive more energy efficient when compared to hub motors? I'm thinking for maximising range. Or is it always a case of buying a model with larger battery capacity...

    • @DrewElia
      @DrewElia  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yes hub drive is less efficient due to heat dissipation gear drive overall is more efficient in theory!

    • @esk8jaimes
      @esk8jaimes Před 7 měsíci

      @@DrewElia I'm thinking more along the lines of motor wattages, guessing higher Watt motors will drain the battery more? Most hub motors are relatively low wattages.

    • @gabrielpursley2812
      @gabrielpursley2812 Před 3 měsíci

      @@DrewElia yea. Prior the envy hit 32 mph with stock wheels and motors. Once I put the Voyager motors on and the gear kit, the board free spins to 32mph with no weight but with a rider it wont go past 25 anymore. Super lame sauce. you'd expect bigger motors to push more power but the esc is the limiting factor.

    How do they compare to the acedeck element gear drive? As far at torque and top speed? Are they better or..?

    • @DrewElia
      @DrewElia  Před 7 měsíci

      So the torque is definitely there the voyager was never lacking in the voyager. But the esc on the Acedeck is higher amps so it puts out more power so you feel it there! This system if anything smooths out the torque for me and makes it less twitchy which is what I like!

  • @arjanvanesch1987
    @arjanvanesch1987 Před 6 měsíci

    The gear drive looks shit hot but for $399 you could get a spare cheap skateboard or half of another voyager

    • @DrewElia
      @DrewElia  Před 6 měsíci

      Yeah but try buying a gear drive, truck, motors and see what that price comes out too. $399 for that set up is a good deal, or buy just the gear drive for $220

    Does it affect the range/top speed?

    • @DrewElia
      @DrewElia  Před 7 měsíci

      The gear ratio is 2.4 pending your wheel size you can easily over 30mph but because it is fixed gear drive you can’t change your top speed other than your wheels

    I saw your video and am interested in owning one of these skateboards but am not sure the best beginner board based on the fact that I have to climb lots of hills to get where I live here in Jamaica 🇯🇲. Some are very steep but not long. Help me choose a board for steep hill climbs, what board do you suggest 'on a budget'? Nice videos I subscribed 👍

    • @DrewElia
      @DrewElia  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Thanks so much for checking out the channel and subscribing! There are a ton of options right now on the market for everything! If you're looking for something to climb hills i would suggest a belt drive solution, it allows you to have full urethane wheels so better grip and customization. the meepo voyager, meepo envy, acedeck stella s3, backfire zealot s2, exway flex pro are all great options to start looking at and will point you in a good direction. they are boards that you can grow with as well so you wont feel the need to upgrade to soon! hope that helps my man, check out the channel for all of these boards they are all featured on my channel. lmk if you have any other questions.
