- Hi, the light bar on the PlayStation controller denotes the player number that you are. This video shows you all 4 player colours on the PlayStation DualShock 4 controller. It also shows you an easy way to remember what player number you are.
Blue = Player 1.
Red = Player 2.
Green = Player 3.
Pink = Player 4.
On some games the light bar will change colour to suit certain features in the game.

The PS4 Light Bar also does various effects/patterns depending on the game being played, and what's happening in the game. For example, when the cops chase you in GTA V, the light bar will flash red and blue. In Call of Duty Black Ops 3, the light bar will change colors to indicate damage.

The light bar can be also YELLOW which means the controller is charging while being turned off.
It also changes colours when you play specific games. For example, it turns orange when you play Resident Evil 7.

oh thanks mate. i just got one for pc and i plugged it in and it "breathes" yellow/orange (breathes as in the breathing effect like on rgb keyboards)
I was mindblown at first about the colors being the same as the first few colors of the joy cons of nintendo switch but when you mentioned the face buttons, it started to make sense

On borderlands the color changes with the elements
Fire- Red
Shock- blue
Corrosive- green
Slag- purple
Explosive- orange
Cryogenic- bluish color
Radiation- orange yellow color

The best effect I ever saw is when I was playing HUE.
When you're in the rainbow room, the controller lightbar cycles through the same rainbow colors as on screen. Looks amazing.
This is a feature in borderlands 2, the light bar changes colour depending on the elemental type of the gun e.g
Slag=purple
Electric=blue
Caustic/toxic=green
No element=white
It also denotes a "function of activation" based on game features. This includes the wanted level in GTA5 or NPC player character, Red bar color ONLY on RD2, and so on. It is not exclusive to player number only. The coding is game programmable.

In gang beasts the color of your player is also the color of your light bar ;). For example if your character color is tan when u start a match your light bar will also be tan.

you can change color by logging in player 2 account and then hold the ps button then go to power option and then there will be an option named switch user go to your account and your color will be red

You can get this colors for example in Star wars jedi fallen order, when you change your lightsaber color to purple, orange or yellow.

On god of war 3 remastered we have color changing
Like: your first blade (blade of chaos) is red Second blade (hades claws) is purple Third blade (Heracles ones) is yellow And the last fourth (the electric blade) is green
And the blade of Olympus is blue
We have for god of war 4 (or exactly not 4) if you are walking is blue but if you on boat is dark blue
And the last of us if you good it’s green if you hurt is orange and if you close to die or you dead is red

Basically it’s really simple. So all you have to do is make about 4 users. And you switch around them.
I'm blown away by how certain games do certain light bar colors whenever you play.
Example: In JSAB, the light turns the color of the shape you play as.
(Cyan Cube = Light Blue, Green Pentagon, Green, etc.)

Incendiary: Orange
Shock: Lighter Blue
Corrosive: Green
Cryo: White
Slag: Purple
Radiation: Yellow
It also reacts to different tools you use in subnautica like the repair tool

So apparently I am player 2 even though there are no other controllers connected no other people logged into the ps4, and Red Dead Redemption 2 is the only game I currently own on the system. (Recent purchase, more games when I finish rdr2)
Rdr2 has red as the default color
When you play in RDR2 controller is always red. When you play in the Avengers, the colour depends from a character you have chosen:
Red - Black Widow
Yellow - Ms Marvel or Iron Man
Blue - Captain America or Thor
Green - Hulk
Pink - Hawkeye or Kate Bishop
White - (ironically) Black Panther
On gang beasts your controller colour changes to your characters colour e.g. brown skin would indicate a brown light

I too have the base model, but I found out about the difference when my cousin was over on Saturday :-)
Spintechfilms an easy way you can tell which model you have is by looking at the D pad or buttons if it's glossy you have the original and if is not then you have the new model
I have an original that came with my playstation and a V2 that I bought for when I have friends round
People want this off the controller - it's not practical, but when used meaningfully and right, it's the most beautiful thing about this controller. Devs should use it more, as well as the 6axis and the Touchpad.
I'll fight Sony if they remove any of those from Dualshock 5.

I like the controller light adaptation to video games. In fallout 76, when you have the light on, the controller will be green until you turn it off. Red dead redemption 2 has it to where it will be red but when you go into hunting vision the controller will be white.

Yellow = Missing Some Health
Red = About To Die
