If salah hugging the touchline 90% of the game doesnt classify as a winger then hell, I know nothing about football.

the older style wingers, that Rory refers to, were covering the whole wing, meaning including the defensive part of the game. Salah very rarely goes back to help and that 1 of the main reasons Trent is so exposed.

It’s the new systems in football. On paper and on the eye you’ll find Salah on those wing positions but ask Klopp who his strikers were in that team. He’d say Mane and Salah. Salah especially was taking more shots per game than anyone in that Liverpool team.
Edit: angles of attack changed so that Firmino in the false 9 was a facilitator to let Salah (and Mane) strike from zones in which he could do most damage.
People like this will do a top ten strikers list then say Salah isn't a striker as well.

It was all by design, Firmino would occupy that central spot of the field but in terms of striking the ball towards goal that was Salah. Top 10 Premier League wingers, John Barnes is not a top 10 Premier League winger. By the time the Premier League came around, Barnes was transitioning into CM.
It's mad that only one of them had Mane on his list. The guy was amazing for Liverpool, won every club competition with us and was one the best LWs in the world at his peak. He was instrumental in our first Premier League trophy, holds the record for the fastest ever Premier League hat trick from his time at Southampton, has PL golden boot, was in the PFA team of the year for four of his 6 seasons at Liverpool, and was certainly a better player than Sterling and probably Mahrez too (no disrespect to either of those players, they're both amazing and have ridiculously large PL trophy numbers, it's just that Mane was better imo)

Barnes centre mid in the premier era and not a bad passer/facilitator for Liverpool world class winger from '87-'91 in the old 1st Division
Yeah, Barnes was a class winger and a better player than a lot of players mentioned in this video but that was mostly before the premier league.
Barnes would be #1 on this list, had they not made it PL only.
He played over two hundred premier league games but yeah, he is more well known for playing in the old first division I suppose.

Today I learned Pires is criminally underrated.
Spent 6 years in the Prem and in 3 of those he was in the TOTY competing with Giggsy for that left midfield spot.
Won the FWA POTY in the 01/02 season too.

Good list, I might swap Mane and Bale in terms of thinking soley what they did in the prem, but Bale defo had the best prem season of the two. Mane gets forgotten nowadays after the last two seasons at Bayern and now Saudi. But the penultimate season before leaving he was seen as better than Salah ... granted Salah had a slow season by his standards. I am Liverpool fan so there's bias, but it is hard not to put CR7 at the top. If Salah wins another PL for Liverpool then I think hes the undisputable no 1, atm its tough between the two

Pires' style shaped the Salahs and Hazards of this world but they had either individual or team achievements that surpassed what he achieved.

No matter what their style was, it's about how well they played from the LW/RW or LM/RM position. Some players were playmakers from the wing like Beckham, some were inside forwards like Salah but their position was winger so they all count. Mine is:
1 Ronaldo (it's just insane to argue about this)
2 Salah (no explanation needed)
3 Giggs (no explanation needed)
4 Mahrez (2016 alone would get him + he was crucial for City)
5 Hazard (just sensational)
6 Beckham (very special kind of winger, his style of play has never been replicated)
7 Bale (just sensational)
8 Sterling (great stats + longevity)
9 Son (incredible stats)
10 Mane (incredible stats)
11 Pires as honorable mention, he was amazing but the wingers that came after just have insane stats. Can't leave out people with 100 + GA. It's football, so goal contributions always count for more.

@@Kebabhunden Maybe. I know Mahrez wasn't as important for City as Hazard was for Chelsea. I put him there because of that one season, which may not be logical but for me is the greatest ever performance in PL from any player. He was the main man of the biggest underdog story I've seen since 2004 Euros.

Not sure about this. Giggs, Scholes, Keane and Beckham is a pretty tough group to separate. All best in class at the time.

As a kid growing up in the 90s. We would have Prem players come to training and do q and A's. All the defenders would say Giggs and Ginola were the hardest wingers to play against. So for me they are the 2 best from that era. Then in the more modern era it was Ronaldo, Bale, Hazard and Salah. I think Saka could eventually make the list if he continues to develop and maintain his current form. Mahrez could of made the list but Guardiola didn't play him enough.

The Liverpool disrespect is so obvious. Barnes had everything, literally everything. Free kicks, left footed but equally as good on the right, power, pace and finishing. Fine he was past his prime when the prem came about but he was so versatile he moved into central midfield for the betterment of the team. If this panel weren’t so biased towards their own club Salah should easily be top two.

Beckham is one of the most overrated players of all time, if not the actual most overrated.

I with Rory here, when I was growing up the players he listed were wingers. The question is made a mockery if we go by the modern definition everyone else uses because it pretty much excludes the first 15 years of the Premier League.

Lightning fast, skillful, great crossing, and scored goals.
He won 2 Premier Leagues in 3 EPL seasons at United and was United's top scorer in 1995.
