  • This is the first video that shows pictures of Suzanne, Viviens only child.
    Trivia: Suzanne was born October 12th 1933
    Trivia: Suzanne was Viviens only living child. Vivien had a total of three miscarriges, all with Laurence Olivier. The first was in 1942, and the baby died within the first couple of weeks, the second miscarriage happened in 1945. Vivien was starring in Caesar and Cleopatra and she had to run in one scene and shout "I am a Queen" but the floor was over-waxed thus making her fall and loose the baby. The third miscarriage happened in 1956. Vivien was only 42 years old at the time and she was starring in Noel Cowards "South sea bubble" she pulled out of the play August 11th. Vivien awaited for her baby at Notley Abbey, but she suffered a miscarriage on August 12th. The baby was five months along, it would have been a baby boy. However, Vivien wanted a baby girl who was to be named Katherine. Sadly enough, she had the godparents, the nanny and a nursery ready for the baby that she lost.
    Trivia: In 1958, the Olivier marriage was almost over. Laurence Olivier thought that having a family with Vivien would help repair the marriage. He asked her if she wanted children with him but she refused.

    Suzanne Mary Holman Farrington died on March 1, 2015 at the age of 81 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Robin. She lived a very private life and raised three sons. She is survived by all three sons, and twelve grandchildren, so Vivien Leigh has twelve Great-Grandchildren the oldest of whom are in their mid and early twenties as of this writing. Suzanne's father, Leigh Holman was thirty-three years old when he married Vivien Leigh. Vivien had just turned nineteen years old a few weeks prior to their marriage. Suzanne was born before their first anniversary, so Vivien was still only nineteen years old when her daughter was born. She was probably even less prepared to be a mother at nineteen years of age than I would have been at that age! Additionally, Vivien did not have a "normal" childhood as she was basically raised in an English convent school from the age of six years on with very little interaction with her parents who were living in India. In fact she did not see them on a regular basis until she turned 14 years of age at which time her formal schooling was over, and they set about touring the continent with her. Therefore, I have to say I do not think Vivien's role model for "mothering" was particularly strong. Viven's mother, Gertrude Hartley, did in fact help a great deal in the raising of Suzanne. I have to wonder if she ever had any regrets about leaving her own child (Vivien) at a convent school so far from home. Leigh Holman, Suzanne's father was a wonderful, forgiving man who enjoyed a life-long sort of brother/sister relationship with Vivien for the duration of her life. He had custody of Suzanne for her entire childhood from the time Vivien left him to Suzanne's adulthood. In fact, he was a stalwart supporter of Vivien Leigh's and she often spent her birthday with him after Olivier left her for Joan Plowright. Suzanne was certainly not impaired mentally in any way!

      +Lizzy Lou Vivien Leigh struggled and suffered with bipolar her entire life and her daughter was very fortunate not to have had that gene passed to her. I just wonder if any of her grandchildren have it. I have bipolar and it skips one generation. For example I have bipolar - my mother did not - but my grandmother did

      That's right. Vivien's lonely childhood and absent parents probably molded her own distant relationship with her daughter. You tend to raise children the way you were raised.That's why I'm glad I never had any children. I would be a bad parent. No patience and unaffectionate. Just the way my parents were to me. I'm 60 now and both my parents died 2 and 3 years ago. I've come to accept them as parents and think they did the best they could.I never knew 3 of my grandparents so I have no idea how they were raised.Also my parents were 87 and 95 when they died.Born in a very different time than now.Got off the subject of Vivien a bit, but I think emotional coldness to others is learned behavior. I was taught very well!! Love Vivien and I feel sorry for her.

    Thank you for uploading these pictures. Hugo Vickers' biography of Vivien Leigh includes a beautiful letter written by Suzanne to her grandmother, Gertrude Hartley, thanking her for raising her in Vancouver, BC during WWII. Also, the blog "Viv And Larry" has a film of Sophie Farrington, Vivien's great granddaughter, traveling about to learn more about her great grandmother --to MGM, where she meets a son or grandson of David O. Selznick; and to Tickerage Mill, Vivien's last home where her ashes are scattered on the pond, where she meets Tarquin, Olivier's son with Jill Esmond. It's a sweet film.

    I remember a reporter once telling Suzanne that she didn't look anything like her mother, with that Suzanne laughed and said; Thank God for that! Suzanne and Vivien had a strained relationship early on, which got better once Suzanne got older and started having children. Towards the end of Vivien's life both mother and daughter enjoyed a much better relationship. I'm glad over that since Vivien seemed so alone (yes I know about John Merivale) towards the end of her life.

      From what I have read, Vivien Leigh was blessed with many good friends that stayed with her through thick and thin.
      Merivale was a great help to her and a great friend to her in her last years. Merivale was there for her. That's a big deal. That's not being alone.

      She died this march and had 3 children, Neville, Jonathan and Rupert. It is thought vivien Leigh has around 13 grandchildren. One of which made a very interesting documentary that u can find by typing in Google vivien leigj made in Japan

      8proncess do you know who the man at 40 seconds is?

    • @8proncess
      @8proncess Před 9 lety

      Yes that is robin farrington, Suzanne's husband and farther of her three children. He died in 2004

    • @8proncess
      @8proncess Před 9 lety +2

      Wait sorry I tell a lie I was looking at 1:40. The man at 40 seconds is her first husband Leigh Holman who is Suzanne's farther. They remained good friends throughout. He was a barrister and they married when she was 18.

    • @lemorab1
      @lemorab1 Před 8 lety

      I think you mean 13 great grandchildren. Vivien had one daughter, Suzanne, who had three sons. So, Vivien had 3 grandsons only.

  • @nursegrace7492
    @nursegrace7492 Před 11 lety +10

    Miss Holman was extremely lovely, with fine bone structure. I wonder if she kept herself on the dowdy side (overweight, with unglamorous clothes or hair) because she felt at an early age she shouldn't, or couldn't, compete with her mother? There is a stunning woman under there...she just needed to lose some weight, grow her hair out, pick up an eyebrow pencil, and ask her mom to take her to the Better Dresses department of a good store. I can tell she's very pretty.

    • @mbt5199
      @mbt5199 Před 5 lety +6

      No, I don’t think anybody can tell she was pretty, in fact. Unfortunately for her, she didn’t inherit any feature from her mother. If this is not obvious to you or anybody, I don’t know what will be.

    No heredó la belleza de su madre. Luego está chica tuvo 3 hijos así es que esa belleza nunca fue replicada.

    Sabía que Vivien Leigh, que como yo había nacido un 5 de noviembre, había tenido una hija Suzanne con la que no había tenido mayor relación, separada de su madre a temprana edad a raíz de los episodios cada vez más frecuentes maníaco depresivos, pero tenía entendido que esa hija había sido la también actriz Suzanne Pleshette, cuyo parecido y belleza es innegable. Es cierto eso que leí en un artículo hace ya mucho tiempo?

  • @gulmerton2394

    Is it really a good thing to be Vivien Leigh’s daughter when it is soooo obvious you are not as beautiful as your famous mother? People staring at you, looking for something that would remind them of Vivien.....and not finding any? Poor her, she took after her father. Which is not a bad thing per say but unfortunately she was Scarlet O’Hara’s daughter.....
    By the way, Hollywood chose a little girl actress who looked just like Vivien in Gone with the wind.
