  • In today's full time RV living, van life travel vlog, I show you my awesome Ram Promaster Van Conversion Lift Kit. My Winnebago Travato gets a 3 inch camper van lift by a company called Off Highway Vans.
When you are living in a van and you want to go places deep in the National Forests, you really run the risk of damaging the bottom of your van. That's just a fact of van life. I've only been living in a van for 4 months and I've already done some pretty major damage to the bottom of my van. I didn't want to spend my vanlife worrying about that kind of stuff. Or not being able to take my Winnebago Travato to more of the cool Rv living and van life spots out there. So when I found out about Off Highway Vans Promaster lift - I was all in on this van lift kit!
The good thing about the Winnebago Travato National Parks edition it's an off grid beast! The only thing it was lacking was the ground clearance to go more places and get an even better off grid van life experience. A van lift kit was a no brainer for my van conversion to get off road and enjoy more off grid living in my Winnebago Travato.
Whether you're into van life, rv living, the rv lifestyle being able to get more places with your tiny house on wheels is key to really enjoying living in a van and van life in general
I got the van lifted over a week ago and have been nothing but impressed with the Off Highway Van Promaster lift. It's really made my tiny home on wheels more off grid living capable. I am definitely glad I made this choice.

While you have moved on from the Promaster I remembered this video and your impressions convinced me this is the lift I want to use for mine. This and the skid plate. I remain unconvinced I need four wheel drive for my off road trips.

Without a doubt this was a worthwhile expenditure on your part, Kevin. With a rig like yours and the circumstances of your life, why wouldn't you want to open up every possibility to access those harder-to-get-to places. It being miserably hot and looking like a hurricane will visit Tallahassee in the next week, I am looking forward to living your escape to West Yellowstone and the Park vicariously. Keep up the great CZcams work! -Larry

I drove all across the west in a high clearance 4WD vehicle to dispersed campsites and trailheads. The times I actually needed to shift into 4WD were few but high clearance was invaluable. I would probably add some skid plates and bigger tires as well.

The forest campsites & BLM spots are on some tough roads and having the extra clearance will give you more opportunities to camp at beautiful places. Hey Kevin, I’ve copied this from our post on TOAW group face book, so it may look familiar 😎. We had to modify both the front mud flaps & the drivers side rear plastic wheel fascia. On the front mud flaps, we had to remove most of the metal bracket, on the tire side because it was rubbing when turning. Not to difficult, removed flaps, cut off bar with a wheel, painted, & reinstalled. Less than 2 hrs. The drivers side fascia was moved forward with some “persuasion.” 😬 I did not want to cut any metal from the body. A number of the group members, with the OHV lift kit, have removed the mud flaps, I chose to try and save them. Mine worked out great. I’ve got approx 1500 mi., quite a bit of rough dirt roads, without issues.

I have lifted my vehicles in the past and its definitely just something that you do because you want to. The rear of your vehicle will probably have no ill effects from this lift whatsoever. Since it is a FWD vehicle I am sure you have cv shafts that connect the transmission to the wheels. The lift in most cases will slightly alter the angles that these joints operate at and will also change the angles of your front suspension components slightly. It was the right choice for you I am sure. Just be prepared to pay attention to your front end components as they may wear differently. CV joints, wheel bearings, bushings, and steering components are usually the most effected.

Took our new Thor Tellaro on a forest road for the first time this weekend. 99% of the 21 mile road was not a problem except for one shallow creek crossing that we crossed very slow. The support bracket supporting our black water tank just nicked road on the way into the dip and was knocked loose . I managed to wire the bracket back in place and continue on, but as soon as I got home, started looking into lift kits. This looks like the right kit for our new rig. Thanks!

Make sure to add to your overall height for bridge clearance, if that has not already been mentioned. Did the front lift affect geometry or did this kit space the whole engine carrier? Nice look!

If you are going to do a wheel tire change I suggest placing ads in cities within a few hundred miles of your travels so you can purchase the new ones and quickly sell the old ones. Second option buy a hitch rack and store the old ones till you sell. Third option find a dealer who will trade in the old ones. Best wishes. Oh or stop by Portland Oregon and I will buy them!
