  • The Barbara Hepworth Museum in St Ives, Cornwall, celebrates the life of one of the greatest sculptors of the 20th Century and it’s sculpture garden is a perfect blend of art, nature and tranquility. My film takes you on a tour of the museum, the garden and Barbara Hepworth’s sculptures on display.
Barbara Hepworth came to Cornwall in 1939 with her family and would live here for the rest of her life. The museum is located at the Trewyn Studios in St Ives where Hepworth lived and worked from 1949 onwards.
The garden was laid out by Barbara Hepworth with help from a friend, the composer Priaulx Rainier. Most of the bronzes that you see in the garden are in the positions where the artist placed them.
Hepworth sculptures were inspired by Cornwall as well as the places she had visited, including Italy and Greece.
The house displays a number of the artist’s works of art and the museum tells you about the artist.
Some of the sculptures on display in the museum include:
    Fallen Images
    Torso
    Single Form (September)
    Infant

In accordance with the artist’s wishes Trewyn Studio and much of the artist’s work was given to the nation and placed in the care of the Tate Gallery in the 1980s.I would also recommend that you visit The Tate St Ives which is only a 10 minute walk from the Barbara Hepworth Museum. There are also a number of the artist’s sculptures located in St Ives.
