  • @circuitbreaker6685
    @circuitbreaker6685 Před 4 lety

    Hi!! Thanks! So one question. Of course with this pandemic, we called off in-house services and jumped right into Facebook Live streaming. The minister, the music director, and me with a Logitech C920 webcam and Snowball Blue microphone on -10db pad, set in front of a PA speaker/monitor that was already on the floor - so as to pick up our PA - Minister's lapel mike, wireless mic on the pianist (the Snowball pics up the piano too).
    I plug the Snowball USB into my Lenovo laptop, the webcam into another USB input, we have the laptop plugged into our LAN at 100Mbs upload speed (nice our ISP improved our connection during all this!)
    So after all that, the real question: why should I consider OBS? I played with it here at home and it just seems to make it harder to work with Facebook. There's this major delay between what I see on OBS and what shows on FB. I'm used to using the FB preview screen to move the camera. I read congregants prayers during "prayers of the people" into our wireless for the minister to hear. It just seems a complication, and when I did my (don't know how really) first setup, I was ending up cropping some of the nice wide angle the C920 has. The video didn't seem to be any better quality. I think others on CZcams have said OBS allows you to determine your settings so FB doesn't?
    Should I think of OBS as something I want more if I get a better camera (a camcorder) with a video interface? Please convince me or tell me that FB is better now and I don't really need OBS for now. Thanks!! -Tom M. Cherokee Park United Church, St. Paul MN. [you can Google and see the (beginner) level stuff we're doing. Took us till today to get a c920 that would auto-focus reliably!]

    • @ChurchMediaCreators
      @ChurchMediaCreators  Před 4 lety

      Hey there! So sorry I didn't see this earlier.
      You can bring in anything really. OBS has various source types. When you add a source to the scene, take a look at your options. The way I've always done it is to section off a part of the screen to capture, then put PPT in that area. I've found that that's easier on the resources.
      Audio - get in to your mixer settings ;)

    We will be using OBS with a TriCaster eventually and wondered how to connect. It’s a switcher so would you connect with HDMI and the TriCaster would be the video capture device? We only have one camera right now and it’s pretty easy

    • @colleenmoore978
      @colleenmoore978 Před 4 lety

      We borrow equipment (TriCaster, cameras etc) from a local cable station. We’re new to OBS but I assumed that the TriCaster would manage the input of our 3 cameras and the soundboard audio and then we would bring the TriCaster into to OBS by HDMI as a video capture device for our stream. Are you saying OBS can manage 3 cameras by itself or are you saying we only need one camera and OBS can create the appearance of 3 cameras by changing the zoom on the scenes in OBS.

      Hi! Sorry I didn't see this earlier. God Bless you too brother!
      OBS is for broadcast / streaming / recording multiple sources. Think of it like an ugly TV production studio.
      For recording / interviewing people.. Zoom is the best app. Everything is built in. Many people do this with Skype too, but I prefer Zoom as it works VERY WELL with people on the other end who may have lower quality internet connections.

    I've been wanting to add a webcam to ours. We use obs, but right now it is just what is showing on our proclaim presenter program and audio from Pastor. The problem I would have is this. I wouldn't want the far away shot with the webcam. I'd prefer to have it approximately 10 ft away from the pulpit. How do I go about doing this? Is there potentially a bluetooth option or wifi? I cant just do a really long usb cable. The pulpit is approximately 30-40 ft from our Mac. Any thoughts?

    • @ChurchMediaCreators
      @ChurchMediaCreators  Před 5 lety

      your best bet is to only use the webcam for a wide shot. Take note how I've used the webcam for a wide establishing shot and then a proper video cam (~$200) for the closer in, more 'proper' shot. You'll need an adapter to take the HDMI signal in to the computer. If you have thunderbolt, the BMD Mini-Record is awesome. Also, there's the Elgato Cam Link that works via USB 3

Quick question: I have 3 cameras that are setup through an atem 4K production switcher and was trying to run hdmi out of the switcher to the USB port in my computer but obs is not showing it as a video capture device, is there a reason for this? And if this is not compatible and I get the black magic web presenter will this pull up in obs as a video capture device? Thank you!

    • @ChurchMediaCreators
      @ChurchMediaCreators  Před 4 lety

      Webpresenter creates a webcam correct? So I'm guessing that you'll find it listed as a "Video Capture Device" under the dropdown once you add that source.
      I believe that the ATEM mini - connected via usbC to the computer is seen as a webcam - is the ATEM 4k not? I wonder if it's not - hence the need for the WebPresenter device - that's why the made that.... unfortunately I don't have an ATEM anymore to test with - and yes - a mini is on my list ;) -Dave

As a result I am the one man media department as well. So I’m not necessarily interested in Live stream as I am recording video for You Tube or some other platform. I use a Mac. I know get to your questions. Ok. I make Keynote charts for all my lessons. I don’t want typical videos of me just talking and deer in headlights look. I don’t want on the camera myself as much as I want a computer feed of my advancing keynote charts, fully in sync. Can I do that with one computer with OBS? Or, would I use two computers? If so what would be a typical work flow to set that up? I can even host these on my own in house Web Browser. Any help ideas appreciated.

      Hi Tim!
      Sorry, I just saw this. The same way I set this up using the webcams, you can do with your camera and an HDMI Capture device to bring the hdmi signal from the camera in to OBS as a video source.
      There's a lot of them out there. I recommend ones from Black Magic, Elgato or Magewell. There's some off brand ones that you can always try too. If you buy from Amazon, you can return if it doesn't work ;)
      Here's a list of capture devices from Amazon. Like I said, I trust Black Magic, Elgato and Magewell. amzn.to/2Y4XDiF
      Hope this helps.

    • @ChurchMediaCreators
      @ChurchMediaCreators  Před 6 lety

      I use the Olive Tree Bible Study app. Works on mac / pc as well as other devices. I use it on an imac and send that signal to OBS on my laptop via NDI. OR you can send it via HDMI to a capture device on the system running OBS. OR you can do a scene in OBS that uses a window or area of the desktop and run it locally. :)
      If you want to learn more about this and so much more, we'd love to have you at ChurchTrainingAcademy.com

      Hey there! Sorry I missed this earlier.
      "Cross posting from OBS to FB" OBS is streaming software, it's not a platform. What do you mean?
      Are you trying to stream to multiple platforms? That's syndication (like tv shows being broadcast on multiple networks). Justin and I use Restream to do that. It's great. We send the stream to them, then send it to multiple platforms FROM them. Genius!

I keep getting the affinity screen how do i get that off?

    • @ChurchMediaCreators
      @ChurchMediaCreators  Před 4 lety

      My general rule is to use an external USB mixer. I actually, run the computer audio in to one channel, my mic in to another, then turn on only the "mix/aux" in OBS. That way, I can simply turn up and down as needed on the mixer.... OBS isn't doing the mixing, just bringing in the signal. I monitor on the vu meter in obs to make sure it's not clipping and then if I need to listen, I use the headphones jack on the mixer.

      You connect the mixer either through the mic/line in port on the computer or via the USB (assuming a USB mixer).

      If it has clean HDMI out - clean as in, the display icons / grids etc on the lcd display can be turned off or not sent down the HDMI port, then all you need is an HDMI capture card.

But rhank you anyways for sharing my video. Obs did work with my mixer with the mic input but the audio was horrible for some reason. It sounded like it was underwater.

      Hi John Paul!
      CCLI has license packages. Most churches already have a license with them, just double check that you have the streaming license and any other applicable ones.
      If / When CZcams or Facebook mutes your audio or gives a copyright notice, you can dispute and provide a pdf or the license. ;)

    Great video, but at about 5:10 mins. you mentioned that an audio bit rate of 128mbps is CD Quality. That is nowhere near CD Quality of 1411mbps. There are many compressed MP3’s out there at 128, but that is a low quality sounding song - unless you’re listening to it on a low quality device, like laptop speakers or a phone.
    Good speaker & headphones (not $10 earbuds) really do make a difference, when listening to a CD, vs. a 128mbps mp3.

    Looks like your audio is not synced with the video. I'm having this issue with OBS and can't find a fix. I tried altering the video and audio delay in OBS but doesn't seem to do anything.

    • @ChurchMediaCreators
      @ChurchMediaCreators  Před 6 lety

      That's one of the first places I look is the audio sync / delay options. Depending on how "off" it is, adjust those numbers. 300, 600, etc. Be sure it's on the proper channel too.
      Is the degree of "slippage" consistant? ie, it's always 3 seconds off or half a second off - consistently ?
      Or does it vary? ie: it's in sync now then a few minutes later, it's about 2 seconds off, then it's back in sync then it's off again etc etc...
      How many cameras are you using and what' the connection? 1 webcam? 1 external camera with a capture card? Which one is out of sync? both? etc
      I've seen problems with the upload connection / speed cause this issue as well. Since OBS is designed for streaming, when the connection is spotty it focuses on trying reestablish/maintain the connection and delivering the signal. That can cause dropped frames and sync issues.
      A good rule of thumb is to set your upload speed to be 1/3 of what your average upload speed it (check speedtest several times to get an idea) ie: 5 megabit upload speed - try limiting your upload speed to 1000k or 1200k. I rarely see a consistent, sustained upload speed.
      Also, what are the specs of the computer and your stream? Is it an i5 laptop and you're trying to stream 1080p ? That processor may choke on that much. Maybe try backing it down to a 720p stream or a 480p stream and see if things smooth out.
      Hope these ideas help.

      What I do in general is use either a USB audio adapter, like from Behringer, PreSonus, etc and take a line from our main sound board in to that. That way, it's clean audio. Ideally, I'll have one like the Xenyx Q502USB or the U-Phoria UMC202HD or similar style. That way, I can adjust the level specifically for the recording, vs relying on what he's sending from the primary mixer.

      Yes, I take a feed from my mixer and run it into a usb audio device on the laptop. Gives me good, clean sound.
      Perfect for churches - you can put a small usb mixer and then run sub groups out from your board - more fine control for your stream / recording.
