If you swung the rear suspension arm out of the way you would not struggle to fit the engine. You can then fit the driveshaft and refit the 2 hex bolts after. But great vid !
Agreed - dropping the rear swingarm assembly out of the way makes the engine in and out a piece of cake - and it only takes a few minutes to do that. (you just need a really big socket and Allen wrench)
Just a heads up on engine removal/install , the swing arm pivots are supposed to be removed so you can slide the swing arm / rear axle back to easily clear drive shaft u-joint.
@jasonmushersee Yes, just enough wear to cause a problem. We replaced the fork and the shift ratchet so I don't know which one it was exactly, but together the wear was the problem.
Hello bigjerm I'm in the middle of doing the same thing on a phoenix that I had purchased but in your video you found a ball bearing in the bottom of the case I also had that bearing fall out when draining the oil where did that bearing come from
I opened the transmission and bought the replacement parts but I have no idea how to remove the shift ratchet. Can you please let me know how you were able to replace it?
I am not too mechanically minded but I need to change the starter motor on my polaris phoenix 200 and i am not sure where it is and what it looks like have you any videos or photos that would help, when i was a lot younger i used to play with engines but it has been about 25 years since i touched a spanner
@@BigjermsGarage I now have a 2006 sawtooth 200 auto, same as the phoenix with trans grinding when accelerating. There's small shavings in the oil. I've got the motor out and taken all the bolts out of the trans cover but still can't get it off. Am I missing something?
Can you post the whole video all of it in a separate link? From start to finish I ended up taking the transmission case off but if I have to do it again I was going to take pivot bolts out also doing it by myself
were did you get your parts . just got a polaris phoenix for free and it is not going into drive . goes into reverse just fine but when it is in drive it jumps and you can here a grinding. any help would be awesome . i did subscribe. thanks for your time
I replaced both shift ratchet and shift fork..all seemed great..but now at high rpm the shifter jumps out of forward..when the rpms drop it goes back into gear...any idea what I have done wrong?
Did you end up welding this? We have replaced twice. I suspect the ratchet gear doesn't engage well because each time we have replaced the ratchet gear and fork they were barely worn on the forward gear side.
Not Sure how you got this engine out without at least removing the swing arm nut on the drive side there was no other way this video is useless so many things skipped
Mine just did the same glad you had same issue and pointed out how to fix it looks to be a simple fix just some long hrs to take engine out

Curtis Holt did you find a solution? Mine is doing same thing
Did you figure it out?
I believe it pops out because the little ball fell off the spring when you put the cases back together
what kind of sound?
How did u keep the ball bearing in place when u put the cover back on
Did you happened to figure this out? Or I web page that could help me out?
Please
you think i could just weld that together for it to work again? i have the same problem.
