We love east asian cuisine in the US! Pho and other dishes are very popular. We aren't as smart as at picking out accents but she was the exception 😁

I guessed everything because I live in the Philippines, lived in Indonesia, teach Chinese kids, watch Korean tv shows and movies and went to school with Koreans too, Thailand has a very obvious accent as does Vietnam, and we all know what Japanese sounds like! The American girl is so sweet and friendly.
Same with me. The vietnam is tricky but i can still guess it right. It can be look the word that used "nh" in the last of the word or other word with last alfabeth in word is "h". Phillipine i know because im born and live in indonesia, and its neighbourhood country. Also i follow and subscribe some vtuber from philippines and always watch them. Thai i know because i had often watch horror and other movie from thai. Korea because i have listened to kpops and korean drama. Chinese because i know of some chinese guy in my country and always watch comedy film and reel videos from china. Japanese of course im a weeb look at my account name, lmao.
I'm filipino too and guessed every single one too, i know japanese cause i watch anime, i know vietnam cause of vietnamese commercials, i know thai cause i watched some thai tv shows, i know korean cause of course kpop and k dramas, i know chinese cause i used to watch their shows, i know Indonesia cause of many tiktok
Wow! I'm learning Tagalog and Chavacano. I watch KDrama and Anime. I knew some girls from Vietnam in college (one of their names was Lien, close to Linh). So, I got the girls from Korea, Japan, Philippines, China (Niha I remember some cartoon my son would watch), and Vietnam. I didn't get Thai though. The girl from Indonesia I wasn't sure if it was Malaysia or Indonesia. I got the word lima which is number 5 in tagalog, Malay and Indonesia.

Philippines was the easiest for me because I could hear the Spanish influence (I'm a native Spanish speaker) and also she was such a good singer, and Filipinos are great singers lol

@@etlogramen8665 it doesn't sound malay, their accent and toning are strong not similar in Filipino Tagalog and even if ever she sounded Español doesn't exist in those languages.
Fyi in Filipino is same in Spanish in sense that the way you spell it, is the way pronounce it too. The only difference is Filipino has milder accent.

As an Asian person, it’s the looks and overall demeanor that’s a giveaway. It’s the hair style and the way they dress. It does get harder to differentiate if an Asian person has been westernized more. I’m ethnically Chinese but people usually think I’m Korean or Vietnamese.

@@user-hf7oz1jn7p the US, the Americanized Asians (especially in California), it’s harder to differentiate because the tanner skin tone, outfits, makeup, hairstyle, etc. Of course this is a generalization, may not apply to everyone in the US. I am just speaking from my personal experience.

Love seeing people that actually acknowledge and aren’t ignorant about Asian countries! My husband is Vietnamese and I remember working and I told a coworker he was Vietnamese. She replied with, “so he speaks Chinese?” 😭
The easiest for me to guess, were Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, and Philippines. I’m an Asian drama addict and so most of these languages, I’m pretty familiar with.
Fun fact tho, Indonesian language or Bahasa is the easiest compared to those you mentioned
If u live in asia, it shouldn't be hard, but the more obscure south east asian languages like Cambodian, Laotian or even Burmese will prove to be hard for people to identify accurately. For east asian languages, i think most people can't recognize mongolian or tibetian..

I'm pretty sure with that since I worked on McKinley which plenty of Chinese, Koreans, japanese, vietnamese, Thailand , whites and blacks works there. They even have their own schools and different many restaurants. They are working on big companies which catered for their language consumers. Indian what you say? Yeah there are also plenty of indian and Nepalese in manila like in Malaysia they are employed mostly on loan or credit companies. Don't cackling if you did not visit Philippines yet because you are really obvious that you don't have the knowledge and idea.

i like the video, letting everyone know there more different Asian out there other than just those 7 types of Asian, I'm Asian myself and speak Hmong , if you were to try to guess which county my language is from, you might never get it right cause since ancient time we don't currently have our own county due to conflict in history and striping us of our own land, though as of right now we are only sharing a county with Laos people and speaking Thai when western come visit and interview us.....but I'm a Hmong American since i was born and raised in united states and i highly approve these kind of video since its teaches other race to know the difference between all Asian and not to stereotype by thinking all Asian are Chinese and hope its stop the racism, cause i don't want to go down the street and hearing someone saying Ching Chong cha to me thinking we Asian are all the same , we're all human at the end of the day so let make it that way by being respecting to other
90% of other Americans would have gotten most of these wrong. She is already very familiar with Asia and currently lives in Korea. I absolutely adored her though. So so cute and humble and enthusiastic to listen and learn to other languages. I'd love to see someone do this who wasn't already so knowledgeable specifically about Asian languages. She was so easily able to identify little differences between all of them

@@naijagerd7909 haha true. I feel like even other Asian speakers would have a hard time. Unless their close to eachother. I know some Thai and Cambodian words are similar to each other. But then conversely. Chinese and Japanese and Korean are so distinctly different from each other.
I'm Vietnamese but was adopted as a baby to a white American family on the east coast. I'm 100% American by culture and nationality. The only reason I can pick out Vietnamese easily is from my family trying to give me experiences that exposed me to it. Japanese I recognize instantly because of my love for anime, and Korean I can identify after a few seconds of listening but not immediately. And that's from my love of K-Pop. But without those preconditions I would have no chance of accurately identifying these languages and accents. This girl has truly dedicated the time to study and learn linguistics

I guessed Japanese, since it's very easy to guess and very recognizable. I got Thai, from listening to some Thai kpop idols speak their native language. I got Korean because I listen to Kpop, and therefore listen to Korean a lot. Chinese is pretty similar, I've seen a lot of chinese shows and shows with chinese people/characters in it. I thought Indonesian on the girl from Indonesia, but had changed my mind and ended up wrong. I was completely wrong with Vietnamese and Philippines though.

to me, this was super easy because everyone started out saying hi in their language and that immediately gave it away lol. but to be fair, it's also super easy as a southeast asian since all the languages here are commonly heard in SEA. if it was south asian or central asian or middle eastern languages, it would have been harder to guess.

I guessed most of these just from their initial introductions, but that Indonesian one really stumped me, to the point that I could not guess correctly.
The Japanese was instantly recognizable to me from all the polite bowing, and having watched a lot of anime the language also sounded familiar.
The Chinese I was at first confused about, but the instant she started singing the lullaby, I could immediately recognize the more traditional Chinese sounding voice that I'm more familiar from Chinese singing/songs and dialogue through movies and music.
It's interesting how the japanese one literally started to sing the japanese anthem "kimigayo" when the american asked for a lullaby (for a bed time song).

the easiest for me is Korean, Chinese, Japanese and Indonesian. Korean because of Kpop/Kdramas, Japanese because of animes and High School, Chinese because i learnt it from friends and Indonesian because of Primary School

Could you do a version of this with nordic countries/languages? As in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and possibly Icelandic and Finnish. It’d be very interesting because most of them are EXTREMELY similar, especially Norwegian, Swedish and Danish.

Shannon was amazing! She really has an ear for language. As a Swedish person we learn English in School so I can speak both Swedish and English but I really want to learn Japanese. Right now I can only speak some few words but I love learning.
Keep it up! I mostly learn languages via Duolingo nowadays. And try to speak to random people in that language on VRchat. Which is quite a fun experience sometimes
