If your petcock is going to leak, It won't leak until the carb applies vacuum to it. It is designed this way to stop fires if the hose were to break. There is no fuel flow until the engine fires and creates the vacuum.

My mechanic had a 1 month backlog so I told him I'd give it a go. He took me to his tool chest and showed me a tool that he uses for the choke nut. It's a "11" Long Reach Hose Jaw Plier". Bought one at O'Reilys for $14.00. Had it off in 2 minutes. Brand was Power Torque.

i would add a JIS screw driver set to your inventory for the phillips style screws on metric bikes are not phillips. I have done the eagle Mikes kit on my bike, as well as having a good aftermarket exhaust and removing the snorkel. a big improvement overall. I also found the plastic enricher nut to be a royal pain. i was lucky enough to have it thread in by hand and only needed a light snug with the wrench. getting it off was far worse.

I read Mike's comments on this in a forum. He said it was unnecessary since the new needle and jet do the same job better. He said it didn't hurt anything but made the throttle response a little snappier at lower speeds. Drilling was required on the 22 cent mod but not needed on the KLX. If is already drilled no problem the KLX and rejetting will still work great

I was able to remove the choke fitting while the carb was in place before I started to rotate it. I pulled the rubber boot off then I used a needle nose pliers to rotate the plastic nut. I did this from the left side of the bike with the carb in the upright position. The orientation of the needle nose pliers is just off axis nut. There is just enough room to get the needle nose pliers in there and turn it about 1/16 of a turn. I used my fingers and rotate it out the rest of the way. As an viewer of your video I can see that once you rotate the carb the only access is perpendicular to the plastic fitting and you have no room. I do not have the cash bars like you do though.

    Hey Scratch 🖐️
Great to see an old boy having a crack... and a good one at that!
Now that you've modified and extracted extra power, lowered the pegs and are braving the "off-road, " your fun factor and appreciation for the KLR will increase significantly
The one thing I did notice, though, is how far forward you have your handlebars?? I know you're tall but bars that far forward will play havic with your steering and control That type of position tends to pull you around and throw you forward on bumps and jumps when on the rough.... I'd pull them back a little to center your standing and sitting attack positions which should help you continue building your confidence and speed off-road 🤙

    God bless

Thank you very much. Just did the 16 tooth, love it. But my, does it hesitate and feel “dirty.” Just ordered the kit tonight. Then found this, I’m excited and encouraged that I didn’t waste $60. Thanks again.
Ps, skimmed through video, did you stay with the 40 pilot jet or go to the 42?

Hi Scrach, its dave again, good job, now the ???. 1 did you use the 140 and why? did you guess, or did some tell you, or did you just follow the video? 2 how/who said which jet to use? now me, l did the kit with the videos used the 142 like the video, and dropped 10 miles per gal, from 50ish to 40? i put the 145 back in and waiting to see mileage. is there more info on pilot sizing, which to use where and when, and more info on the idle screw setting? and what you want it to do? thanks. ride safe.

My directions said to start with the 140. I saw the same info in a couple of forum posts. It worked flawlessly and the popping on decel is gone!

  • @easternshoreblinds9477

The screws on on japanese bikes are NOT Phillips they’re actually j.i.s. Go to amazon and look for them . They’re affordable and will save you much grief. The tip angle and depth are looking like Phillips but are not the same.

Well. I'm not sure what this video adds to the information provided by other videos which actually document how to do all the steps. Why did you upload a video which had deleted footage showing how it was done? Makes no sense. The only valuable part of this video was when you were riding the bike and showing increased performance. Everything else is explained fully and better in other videos.

At about 4.00 when you say "be very very careful" as you are undoing the screw on the throttle cable assembly. If you had been using the correct JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screwdriver - you would not have had to be so careful! There are zero "Phillips" head screws on the KLR and only JIS drivers should be used.
