Review | 2017 Lexus GSF | V8 Redemption

- As vehicles evolve, power, technology and wow factor become major selling points. As we review the 2017 Lexus GS F the higher revving naturally aspirated V8 combines a level of sophistication rarely found in modern competitors from BWM, Mercedes, and Audi. Most of this is because of the reliability history but also because NA V8s are dying. While this car shares so much with the Lexus RC F we take a closer look anyway.

Don't agree with the front bumper. It's the most evolved and balanced spindle grille to date. It looks very fitting for this car
Joseph Wallace agree
Saw one at the dealer next to a M3. If I had the cash, I'd be sitting in that GSF.
Agreed
True i love the F sport grill
Same here, I love what Lexus and Toyota design team are doing.
I'm not sure what your doing wrong, this channels reviews are some of the best on the internet, your videos should all have over 100k views. Keep up the great work!
I agree. He has the best videos out there...without a doubt.
Pornstars, female pornstars I mean, that would do the trick.
Reviews are off the top good. Extremely detailed and knows his stuff FOR SURE. I think the channel needs better SEO and titles for each vid.
He makes you feel like you've owned the car for years and know all the little quirks and little things you'd otherwise take forever to learn about and understand; and THEN he articulates them really well.
Great reviews. I'll stay subbed for a long time lol
I've said it once and I'll say it again I don't understand how snooze fest saab Kyle has a shit ton of subscribers with mediocre infomercials yet the goose who shits on everyone can't get huge numbers. Shame really
dear enthusiasts.
Please appreciate the fact that the production of this 5.0 NA V8 would not have been possible without the low emissions of the much hated Prius HSD. Given strict emissions regulations nowadays, and the mean CO2 values across the model range of a manufacturer, german car producers simply cannot afford such big displacement NA engines anymore. So take a moment and say thank you Prius, for making this possible.
Amen.
Thank you, Prius.
Lexus v8s get surprisingly good fuel economy. You could 30 mpg on the highway with this. My GS460 has gotten 31 on roadtrips if I’m driving around 60 the whole time
Share those props with the shitty Government on emission enforcements.
@@kgisabeast most v8 sedans get good fuel economy on highway. I get 7.5L/100km with ny f10 m5 lol.
The seat coolers are directly connected to the A/C fan speed/climate control. To push more air through the ventilated seats you have to crank up fan speed. I bet you had the fan speed at 20-40% or so when testing. To get most air going through the ventilated seats, and cool down Tiffany’s G-String area, set air to upper body air outlets.
Great review. Waiting on IS-F review now.
Underrated comment. 😂
Like the front end, love the car.
My 2013 GS 350 has been bullet proof.

I've probably watched this video 3 or 4 times now. I need to figure out how to afford this thing before it gets discontinued...
Honestly though, I'm in exactly the same situation. Champagne taste on a water budget, and it sucks.
@Frank Martin These cars are still $40-60k used. Still too much for my sad budget.
Were you able to afford it yet? I'm just going to be saving up for a 2019 or 2020, but in 5 years. That's the only way I'll be able to afford it and the only way I would buy this car is if it's used.
Buy it used! That’s what I just did. I got a 2016 model but it feels (and drives!) like a brand new car! I got the Nebula Gray Pearl with the Circuit Red interior. It’s an incredible machine! Oh, and don’t be swayed by what CZcams car reviewers say about the infotainment. It’s a fine system and works well, in my opinion.
@@christophersparkman 2016 models are still $46k+ where I live.

I’ve had my 2019 GS F for a month now and this review was a part of my decision process. Overall, good review, just a few things I would not agree with, for one, I do often drive the car for all it’s worth, it flat out halls ass and handles like a dream car. I could have had a new Corvette for the price of thus car, but I prefer this for daily driver, I don’t need a “look at me” kind of car, I’m long passed that age 13 type of thinking. I prefer the reliability this car brings to the game. I don’t lease cars. The infotainment system is not hard to use for me, maybe if the reviewer had it for more than a couple of days he would get the hang of it, probably not, his mind is made up it’s not what he’s used to. Unlike what the mechanic said about the stereo system,
It sounds fantastic at any volume. For one thing, you need to bypass the digital processing and listen in stereo, with a touch extra bass and twice that on the treble, then put in a disc or play Tidal steaming over Bluetooth and it sounds fantastic. I hate to say this but every single mechanic friend of mine has blown out their hearing, they all have such a limited range of frequencies left for listening to music that it’s sad, real sad. I have always loved music so much I have taken care of my hearing but for some macho reason, the Mecanic friends of mine never have and they run loud air tools all day, every day, so they are bad judges of stereo equipment. That 1,350. Dollar stereo upgrade is worth it and great. Never take the Mechanic’s advice on sounds, their hearing is shot.
Bill I couldn't agree more with your assessment! Spot on! I am enjoying my 2020 even though I have had it only about 4 to 5 days and it stays in sport + Cheers!!
geese hires a sound engineer to test the sound system, not a mechanic.
Honestly, what’s a realistic gas mileage in this car ?
Just driving around not flooding it?
Flooring it ?
And traveling far on the highway?
Thanks
Thank you for this input. I just sold my 99 GS400 after 21 years and I’d definitely in the market for a GSF. I plan to purchase sometime early next year. I’ve heard complaints about the infotainment system but I’m not put off by it, I agree with your take. Thanks for the advice and anymore would be greatly appreciated. I think this car is awesome, can’t wait to own one!
I wouldn’t trust most people as music and sound quality is highly subjective and I find most people are less picky than I am when it comes to sound quality.
The GS-F looks amazing
Another legendary trunk segment. Well done as always!
i’m 20 years old and i’ve started saving up for one of these! 2 weeks in and i’ve saved up 2.7k. Wish me luck everyone on getting my dream car🙏

Can you comment on the ownership experience? I am very interested to hear the likes and dislikes directly from an owner. Thanks.
CPO is a scam, just go private and take it to a mechanic
@@etagged Lexus CPO is like a extra 2-3k but adds 2 years of maintenance and 2 years unlimited miles after the normal warranty. almost no reason to get it that way.
Congrats on that find! Ultra Sonic blue by chance? That's exactly what I'm waiting to find. I like the warranty extension and service included.
Lexus is #1. This is seriously probably the best car ever.
Ferrari F40, F50 and Lexus LFA would beg to differ.
But as a sedan.. Not bad at all
@Crow Killer and the fuckin problems that come with them... I've driven everything now and owned from audi rs to MB amg... Fuck this, never again
@Daniel Hernandez Eh, Lexus is best reliability. But the Germans have them beat in pretty much every other category. The Koreans are also creeping up there building luxury machines that are reliable and very fun to drive.

Another great review. Your RCF review helped convince me to pull the trigger on one.
Your reviews are THE best
Love your reviews, they're really well done!
Spot on review. I had a choice between the RC F and this car but wanted a 4 door. I liked that blue color but wanted red seats and the caviar(black) goes better with the red seats. After driving it for almost 2 years, a few things observations:
- For a V8 the car isn't very loud and you certainly aren't going to turn any heads by sound alone, I put on an aftermarket mid pipe and the car now sounds great
- Stock brake pads are known to squeal and make a LOT of brake dust - my brakes turned heads when i stopped at traffic lights for the wrong reason - the noise was ear piercing. Replace them with aftermarket pads or the dealer will replace them with an alternative for free (but you'll sacrifice braking power)
- ASC - Active Sound Control - is annoying and should be a feature that never comes on unless you activate it. It's on in sport mode but a little quieter and on full sound in sport +. Basically every GS F owner automatically hits this button to turn it off every time they put it into sport or sport + mode and there's no way to permanently deactivate it unless you unplug the rear speaker it comes from.
- Shifting in sport+ mode can be very jerky, i tend to drive highway in sport + and side roads/city in normal or sport mode.
- The mouse for the infotainment system is goofy and I am just able to tolerate it.
This car is addicting to drive. I have to stop myself from trying to find reasons to go out and do errands just so I can drive it. I see myself owning this car for the long term.

I’m coming for ya next year! This is the perfect car!
Great tech insights!
I've been meaning to post for awhile, just never got around to it.
First off, I don't understand how you don't have more subscribers/views, you're straight to the point, no bullshit approach to vehicles reviews with some dry shop humor is really welcomed: the best part is not directly name dropping competitor models on whatever car you are reviewing; since, it's not all about white paper spec sheet numbers, it's more about how the car makes you feel when you drive it - people get so wrapped up in spec sheet numbers they don't see the bigger picture of what the car has to offer. Those statements being what separate you from other reviews is truly a breast of fresh air, making you, by far the best automotive reviewer on CZcams as far as I'm concerned.
I purchased a 2016 GS F that I've had for a little over a year now, and, although, I had found your channel months before that purchase, I completely missed this video at the time, and had stumbled across it shortly after purchasing it.
Aside from the looks, which as you said is subjective, I actually like it, it's different from (at the videos published time) what other manufactures had graced us with at the time, but now over 2 years later, you see other manufactures coming out with huge grilles for the 2020 model year, so it will be interesting if they also get flak for having the same massive front grilles.
Your other comments are spot on though, although other cars might have the performance, the small things it has to offer are really what set it apart from the competition, the interior is really a nice place to be on a daily basis with the long commute I have: Lexus nailed the package as whole as far as I'm concerned, the seats are by far the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in, the ride is quiet, and the handling is amazing despite it being a 4,100 lb sedan, the TVD makes the car feel allot smaller than it is, and does have a AWD drive feel to it when pushing it around corners.
In regards to the engine, for the power it produces it's truly overengineered for the power output it produces, thus why it's so reliable as Lexus is known for.
Some fun facts, some known, and possibly unknown:
Forged Crankshaft
Forged Rods
Under Piston oil squinters
Oil scavenging on the front of both Heads
Air/oil separator under the intake manifold
Fixed secured by clip pivot roller rocker arms for high RPM use
To wrap it up, brand new for the price there are obviously better options depending on what you are looking for, but once you go into the used CPO market, in the $50,000 range, I would say this car is a steal for the money when it comes to the competition.
Really love that blue paint work.
I was a lifelong German car fan. I always loved them and always wanted one. When I got my first REAL great car, it was a 2008 BMW X3 and I loved it. 3 year lease, zero problems, but thank god I turned it in then. I was never a Lexus guy. I would have though SavageGeese was a little nuts for his love (mostly) of Lexus vehicles, until this year when I test drove, and brought home, a Lexus ES 300h. I wanted a hybrid, period. I can't STAND wasting resources. I was like, look, a FULLY loaded Prius 4 top trim is $33k. Let's just get that. Then, before I bought, I took my wife and checked out the Lexus version of a Prius, basically, the CT200h. Pretty nice, but the salesman suggested we look at the ES300h and it looked AMAZING in Nebula Gray Pearl, and got the same 40mpg. We sat in it, drove it, and were like, holy crap we'll take it. 0-60 is 8.1, which isn't terrible, and it feels faster than that, and the ride quality was worlds better than the Prius or CT200h. $50k loaded, yes, but we WANT to run errands now, lol. I can't wait to hop in it every time.
I had pretty much the same experience. I started with a Toyota Auris (not available in the USA, closest relative is the Corolla) and while it was a good car, as far as driving goes it never got better than "mwoah". Then I upgraded to a Lexus IS 300h. A nice car, looks good and drives well, but it didn't have the comfort I wanted. Then I came across a used GS 450h with top-level trim for a very good price, went for a test drive and bought it the very next day. While it's not as fast as the GS F it does 0-60 in approx 5.5 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph so it's no slouch either. This performance doesn't come at the cost of efficiency: on average I'm getting 33 MPG with a lot of city traffic but on long highway drives I can get up to 44 MPG. As far as I'm concerned this car has it all: performance, comfort and efficiency. An amazing piece of engineering.
just started working for lexus and it's nice to get to drive these cars. wasn't much of a fan of lexus but now I can appreciate them. only thing I will say is their backup cameras are terrible.

Dude! You are tearing it up in that car. Proving you can beat on that Lexus all day long.
Most comprehensive automotive reviewer on CZcams! I can only hope you're going to get an Audi S5 Sportback to review, as that's what I'm targeting for my first ever new car purchase in my 17 years of driving. It would be great to see what you have to say. I feel your frustrations though in the fact that the tech in these cars is getting nuts and fixing it is even more ridiculous. I also agree that the lack of after purchase updates on infotainment firmware is utter bullshit. If it has a glitch you tend to be stuck with it. They should be able to push a firmware update at the dealer when in for service. Seems all the companies could care less after the car is purchased.
Gotta love the Outrun sound effects at the very last 10 seconds of the video
