Personally I think they're low balling with projection which they have a habit of doing that. Walk-ups on easter weekend are usually strong and I think this movie will be fine. Since the budget is low, it should able to make its money back but how much is the question? Since there no really big movie going to compete against unless Monkey Man blows out of the water which I have my doubts. Also merchandise plays a huge role with MV and the Godzilla franchise. but we don't know how much dose legendary or Toho gets from Godzilla toys and trust I been trying to investigate that and I come up with nothing.
This one my top movies for 2024. MV reminds me of Showa era and all of the hardcore Godzilla fans can tell you that. Showa era were fun, stupid and unrealistic and many fans included myself had enjoy that when growing up. If this movie dose flop and Legendary decided to end the MV, Toho will still make more Godzilla films. You can't get rid Godzilla that easily.
Does anybody know the reason they made two Godzilla vs Kong movies in a row? And why the main monster in this movie isn't a monster from a previous movie (Gigan, Biollante, Destroyah, etc)?
@Hedgehobbit I came back from seeing it, it was entertaining, not perfect. Safe to odin you will not like it.I think they did that because Kong was able show emotion and able to tell a story....Godzilla. However, just Rwar me smash things. Adding those kajiu from toho need licensing and they don't come cheap. If they do the next movie, they might add those kajiu in.

I do not know of any movies coming out after this i want to see until September. That strike murdered this summer's blockbusters.
But that lack of films might give GxK and Ghostbusters aetificial legs by being in theatres longer than usual. Just a hypothesis.
I am pissed that Godzilla minus one was not screened in my country and I want to watch that instead of this.
My theater was packed on Friday night, very few empty seats left to see this.

This is only the third Godzilla vs Kong movie ever made. It just seems like there are a bunch of them because Legendary decided to make two in a row (and only change one letter in the title).

Looking at the box office, I always thought Legendary must be making bank on toy sales because the box office has never justified sequels with the budgets they have.
Godzilla merchandises dose extremely well and I think dose put Star Wars to shame. In my few target stores, I seen lot Star Wars toys on display and some are of them are collecting dust. When I went to GxK section and only Item I saw were two Godzilla mask the rest of GxK toys were gone. I talk to my friend in Texas who went his target other day and their GxK toys were also out of stock. Kids love dinosaurs I do have a hunch that MV is in decent position when come to toys.

Toys and general merchandise is what keeps this franchise afloat. It always has in Godzilla's case especially. Why do you think this new film is so painfully toyetic? lol
With the exception of King of the Monsters, Every film has made a profit. Toy sales are great, Book sales are great and physical/digital media sales are great. not to mention they had a big hit with Monarch Legacy of monsters on Apple TV +. You have to remember there are a lot more metrics to be looked at besides BO.

Hopefully less humans more monsters. Just watched most of the monsterverse last weekend and in both King of the Monsters and Godzilla versus Kong the human parts were often unwatchable.

With gas, and grocery prices these days. For me to go to the movie theater that movie has to be something epic.
The Toys must sell a lot since at this point the Monsterverse Movies feel like massive Toy Commercials than actual Movies.

I think it will end up overperforming the weekend estimates. I’m seeing it today. I hear it’s a lot of fun. Hopefully I end up enjoying it.
Ok coming back to this comment it looks to not only over perform those estimates. But it could even get close to potentially doubling them. I’ve seen the movie twice and had a really great time with it. It’s an over the top wacky popcorn flick. It’s not a movie for everyone. But I had a big grin on my face watching it. It’s a movie kids will really enjoy. My theater had kids cheering in both screenings.
Yeah don’t this article has been proven correctly currently Godzilla x Kong is surpassing all countries predicted box office by 40% according to reports. So it’s looking like a 180 million dollar opening worldwide on a 135 million dollar budget.
I said originally 400-500, however based on the numbers being seen at the moment I will go with 600-700 million dollars worldwide gross.

Yeah I was wrong, it made more than I expected not 180 instead 194 million dollars opening weekend worldwide will be in profit in about 7-10 days.
I personally loved it, WWE royal rumble with monsters, only weak part was the human element.

A CGI monkey slapping a SGI lizard who will probably slap the CGI monkey back again (rinse and repeat). No clue why anyone above the age of 6 wants to see these kind of movies. Let's hope the ' normies' will stay at home (like they have been doing since circa 2015 (with a few notable exceptions). The theme park crowd will probably love it (but will it be enough ?)

I could see it maybe make a little bit more than 135 milion, maybe around 150-160 milion. This is probably going to be another movie that critics are mixed on but fans and audiences are probably gona have a good time. Given that there isn't any really big competition until the new Planet of the Apes, it could leg out.
... I'd like to see a Godzilla vs Zilla film that uses the version of Zilla that is capable of using green atomic breath.

That’s not really a fair comp as it Godzilla v Kong was released in major markets such as China ahead of its domestic release
It was released in China on March 26th and USA March 31st. That absolutely counts towards total opening weekend. As I said in the video this is not a strong opening.
I believe that the previous g x k had opened earlier in some countries overseas so the $200+ is not from a single week /weekend
