Imagine walking into a store, sitting in a freezer and saying, this is the perfect size. With zero explanation to the salesperson!
I did that this Sunday but I got a livestock plastic water tub from at woods for $95
😂😂😂
or worse yet, bringing a bunch of mannequin parts in, putting them in the freezer and saying "yeah, that'll do it"
My gf is gonna love this freezer!
This is exactly what I thought when he did that. 😂
You always did your experiment seriously !! Glad that i subscribed here 👍🏼👍🏼 keep up your spirit high Levi! Happy holiday and Merry Christmas
Hopefully you had a merry Christmas and here's to a Happy New year ahead. Wow that's definitely a very unique build. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep making. God bless.
I’ve thought about diving into cold water therapy. I used to do the Whirlpool ice baths even I was an athlete in high school. Nice setup you got!
Great vid mate! I made one not long ago and used the inkbird thermometer too, but I love the filter idea!
I remember the early TV moments of Wim Hof on the Dutch television. They were in a rowing boat in the winter on a lake in Amsterdam. And Wim jumped off into the icy water 😅
And Willibrord Frequin that interviewed him.
The whole ice water thing is not for me. But your solution looks like a good controlled method 😊
Thanks for the great video. I've been taking ice baths for a couple years now. My setup consists of a horse trough in Frozen water bottles which kind of troublesome taking the ice bottles out of my freezer, moving them to the horse trough and at the end placing them back into the freezer. I'm kind of thinking about doing what you built. Thanks again for all the upgrade information
Perfect! Thanks for the work behind this!
I'm going to start at about 10-12 degrees C and gradually lower the temp over a few weeks. My pool through winter only got down to 15C and even that was beneficial. My aches and pains were so much better.
I have found that the Tararium JP-025F (420 GPH) for 100-200 gallon tanks and small ponds works very well for less than $40 with no filters to replace. In combination with a very small amount of hot tub chlorine crystals periodically and mine easily lasts two months before I need to change the water. Also I get in clean.
Levi, great build, great advice. Are you still using this freezer? Any lessons learned or after thoughts on steps you might have changed from last year?
I have a similar setup for years. Family of three. I do not have a filter, just scup out the hair and bits with a small aquarium fish net. I add a 450ml bottle of H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide), it last from 2 to three weeks before I have to change out the water. I like the large aquarium filter idea, may try that to extend the time between cleaning.
You're awesome dude! Thanks for putting this together. Winter project is the sauna kit and cold plunge!
Love it Levi, you rock bro
Simple and nice, thanks.
Damn Levi, that looks so cold. Love to see more on this “journey” of yours. We have a place you can go do this here in Minnesota and I’ve debated it.
Great video, well done mate!!
Good job getting in there 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Interesting video. Please do a video explaining more around why *you* are doing this and where the inspiration came from. Thanks!

Awsome video bro. Thank you. I have also been listening to Andrew. Lots of awsome life changing info ae
Good video. Thanks for the tips
Do you happen to have the model of freezer you're using here? would love to make one of these! Great tutorial.
How’s you cold plunge holding up? Is the marine seal still preventing rust?
EXCEEELEEEENT video thank you!
🔥 video, well done 🙏
bro!! Loving the work dude!
Come try it out some time Sid!
Thanks for this video. Great idea on creating an ice bath. I've been doing cold showers for 3 months now, but it's to activate my brown adipose tissue for weight loss purposes. It's amazing how it warms your internal body temperature and you just feel revived after a few minutes in cold water. I'm a believer. it's time for me to look for an old chest freezer.
Do you have any good links about info on the cold shower process and benefits by chance? Or a book? I only saw some really general things on it. Thought I'd ask.

@@lisagrace6471 Cold showers don't compare and are not an adequate replacement for cold plunging (not my opinion, but the scientists who study this stuff).
@@dasgoat76 interesting. thanks. I am actually opening an alternative health clinic and including traditional community and finnish sauna, and I had a thought to include cold baths instead of showers. funny. Thanks again.
I like almost everything in this video. Very helpful, but I like to be in all the way up to my shoulders when I do my cold plunge so I will look for something deeper in depth. Thanks for the help.
I can actually lower all the way to my neck in this freezer, I'm just a chicken in the video
@@Levi_Allen Lets get your 1 year update. Are you still using it?
I just built my own chest freezer as well. I am definitely loving having it around. One question, do you find that the fluval aquarium water filter is helpful/effective in keeping your water clean? How long are you finding that you can stretch out your water change out period? One week, one month, etc? I like this simplistic approach to your water filtration. There are definitely other people using much more expensive methods of water treatment (i.e. ozone generators). Id like to avoid the expense if I can get my water changeout period to about a month.
I do about once a month and try to shower before I use
Awesome man. Thanks for the video! It was a big help!
@@Levi_Allenhow do you drain the water if you sealed the drain
@@harisrocker You could use a sump or transfer pump.
Levi, great video. Can you tell me what actual inside dimensions you went with?
him getting in. priceless great job
Good video, thanks.
Loving the videos! Where abouts are you based? The scenery is beautiful!
Any chance you can put a link of all the stuff you used. Like the temperature controller
Hi Lev! Awesome Video! How long did it take for your temperature outlet to reach the 7 degree Celcius? And how often do you clean or filter the water? Do you have another video for it?
Maybe I should make an update
Great vid, @Levi_Allen! (Subscribed!) Question: have you kept at cold exposure in the morning? How's is it working for you? What's the update. Best to you! Keep creating!
Hey have you tried using Epsom salts to reduce the amount of ice?
The logo for "The Adventure Film Academy" is Awesome, The AFA turned into 2 mountains and a tree is perfect
So glad you noticed : )
Thank you.
question does the filter stay inside when the water is freezing? does the cold harm the filter?
Great setup. I've just been using a large trashcan that I dump Ice in. Need to make one of these eventually because its so much less work in the long run. How do you plan to change out the water?
good q. why would you seal the drain plug? makes no sense
Try frozen water bottles you can re use them
Jeven is here haha
@@btson6134 because it leaks lol, to get the water out to refill you just need to tip the ice bath to the side lol
@MJTRIZZLE and we all know it's impossible to install a drain that won't leak🤣
Hi, On the video you cut the power cord, how are you cooling the water with no power?
great video and thanks for the tips.
The power cord I cut was just for the light in the lid
Could you share what model and dimensions you used? Great video!
@leviAllen the marine grade sealant you used is it non-toxic? This was one of the things I was factoring into my build and was curious for any input you can give.
@@davidallowpores.
Same question. I cant find non toxic marine grade.
Hey there
Thanks for the video. I'd love to know, does the chemicals from the silicone leech into he water at all?
My first ice bath, I found that the water stuck of the silicone smell after 3-4 days. Just wanted to know if this would effect the benefits if I am absorbing the chemicals through my skin. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
No
I’m mostly curious if one will run into any problems with your freezer being filled with water and freezing during the winter in cold temps. Say it its 20 degrees for a few weeks straight. Will the water potentially freeze solid and expand and break the freezer? Or does the insulation of the freezer possibly prevent that?
Yes. And if in a hot climate the power bill is nuts.
I had mine in south facing garage in Colorado and this was definitely an issue and way too cold, moved to basement near sump pump drain so I could still drain. Luckily I have window with hose nearby and now much easier to use and run.
Hey Levi! How is your spray paint holding up in the water?
can you leave this outside if
temperatures are getting below freezing?
Great video!! If you sealed the draining hole ,how do you drain it if you need change the water ?
He scoops it out or I use a siphon hose. I use the water in my garden.
Very helpful thanks. I just scored, what appears to be, that same freezer, used, for a cool $125(USD). It's a bit rusty on the bottom, as it was used to home brew beer in it's former life, but a great deal and looking forward to that first plunge.
What is the type of the freezer you use ?
When unplugging the freezer, does the freezer still have reserved power in the system possibly causing a shock when you get inside? Do you wait after a certain time? thank you
Definitely would like to know the answer here!
Great video. Please consider adding a part on safety with this thing, especially if you have small children. Add latches & locks to cover when not in use. Thanks. P.S. the bourbon was a nice touch.
Great point especially since he has two small kids. Water is always a scary thing with kids.
100%
On summer days, after a drain and filling up freezer fresh - the compressor heat sensor beeping would go off non stop (didnt know they had that!), to touch the outside of freezer, it was burning hot from dissipating heat. Had to run a fan non stop to keep compressor coold.
After that, only filled up 3inches of water and then froze it solid like a giant ice cube, then filled with water to melt that ice to get it cool. The freezer compressor will struggle trying to cool ALLLL that water. I got an XL freezer from a restaurant that was 20years old, so that may have been the problem. But make sure your compressor has a fan and freezer has a drain plug!
Just tryin to help out others.
Great video! I'm a bit confused about the temperature regulation. How does that work with...I think you mentioned the probe??
The temperature switch turns the freezer on until it reaches desired temp, and then shuts the freezer off. This allows the whole thing to not freeze over
Is the freezer motor itself regulating temp or are you using one of your components to regulate?
The little scream when the nads went in. Haha :)
what tool set is that, looks good for smaller jobs, i need something similar. thanks.
I don't think I'll ever use this knowledge but I had fun watching
You stated who you heard it from but didn't see a link to him, I personally think I could do that the ice packs are OK but putting my whole body in. Not sure I could do that. Used to do it as a kid but now not sure. Happy Anniversary to the both of you and best wish's also.
I think it's in reference to this podcast: czcams.com/video/QmOF0crdyRU/video.html

I wish I had an easier way to do ice baths in the summer. Unfortunately, living in an apartment in the hot parts of California makes it difficult as I don’t have much space for a chest freezer and buying ice would get very expensive very fast. Even on the coldest setting, the shower water is around 70 degrees F (21 C). Not low enough to be therapeutic. I could buy a countertop ice maker, but I don’t even have the freezer space to store any ice and it probably wouldn’t produce enough on its own per day.
Great video!! How often did you end up needing to replace the water??
Depending on usage. Every other month currently. I've been using hot tub cleaning shok as well
Great vid, Levi… Thanks bruh
Does the freezer operate outside when temps go below freezing? Thank you!
Curious how much your supplies ran you after the freezer? A couple hundred?
I'd love to see an update on this one
Nice dude! I'd need a heater here to still have water in the morning - Its -30C here today! Think I'll just grab my firewood in my underwear and call it done 🤣
so you let the ice tube cool down over the night so its cold in the morning? and u have to remove the filter before using the ice bath?
Have you had any issues with the Sika 291 holding a seal now that you've had it running for awhile?
Not at all
Haha that's awesome! :D
i built mine and added a 300 gallon aquarium filter with air line and hot tub skimmer net i add hot tub chlorine 1/4 tea spoon once a week to keep water clean mine is new with metal inside which works fine for me . all the data on ice baths says 50 to 59 degrees Fahrenheit for dopamine release Harvard studies ? great video thank you
Curious how your calk is holding up, any Leaks? I have seen the groups preach about JB weld and wanted to get your take before moving forward.
I mean sikaflex is superior, but JB weld is also fine
@@Levi_Allen dug through the comments to find your seal of approval ahah went with your advices over jb weld…. Curing as we speak! How long did you leave yours to cure?
Thank you for making this video 🫡
Thanks for this! What is the degreaser you used and what type of spray paint?
I used acetone
I’m thinking of trying this… can you give me advice please…
I’m 52 and about 100lbs overweight.. have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and a heart stint… the meds they have me on make me tired, weak and joint pain 24 hours a day… my job is extremely stressful!!
My jacuzzi tub helps with relaxing and some joint pain… would following up with cold dips help me?? Thanks
Does the fluval aquarium pump make the water bad for you? I learned that there is beneficial bacteria in the filter so maybe it makes it toxic for humans? Also, does not taking shower after my cold plunge make the bacteria absorbed into my skin?
How has your sealant held up? My local home improvement store didn’t have Sika Flex and said a basic bathroom sealant would work. I now have leaks. Is your Sika Flex still keeping everything dry? Thanks for the video.
Sikaflex will hold up better than any bathroom sealant. Sikaflex is specifically designed for boats and the marine environment and actually very similar uses.
Great video. Question though, you sealed up the drain, how will you drain it when you need to?
I'd suggest a hose and syphon out
Reminds me when you fell off the paddle board then proceed to jumped off the boat at Blackstone Glacier lol
Exactly!
how does it work leaving it outside all year round, will it not just rust or wreck with the weather
where did u go to get your freezer?
I just came across a 14.0 Cu.Ft. Insignia freezer for free. I plan to convert it to an ice bath following your steps. My issue is that this particular freezer DOES have a bare metal interior. What do you recommend I do to remedy this? Paint it? Pull it out? Add plastic? Thanks!
Paint it so it doesn’t rust
Is 14.0 cubic ft big enough? I'm 5' 10"
I’d love the link to Hubermans podcast on dopamine and ice bath if you have it? You’ve inspired me
Do you think I can put anything to protect it from rain and snow in winter times ?
This is a great idea! hahaha
How long did you let the Silkaflex dry? I done the sealing, and cant wait to fill the freezer with water :D
whatever the bottle said, I don't remember
Great video! Where did you get that ratchet from?
How did this hold up for you with the Sikaflex 291 on the seams?
I hate cold baths, but I actually love going from a hot tub to a cold bath. Then back and forth a bunch.
Levi, I have done a similar project as you. I cut the power cord to detach the lid. I know you don’t want to be liable for electrical procedures but what did you do with that cable after cutting it ?
terminated the ends with butt connectors. and electrical tape
What is in the purple can and when do you use it. I did not see you using it in the video, just the degreaser in the blue can. Thanks
What is the best way you have found to keep it clean I bought the pump you have do you use anything else.
Hot tub cleaning chemicals
what size freezer did you get. cft or litres
How has the inside of your cold tub held up? Any rust?
I’m curious what is the submersible water pump that you use? :)
Thanks in advance! 🙏
How often does the compressor turn on once temp is made?
Have you noticed a jump in your electricity bill?
interested in this too
If you get the water filter how long can you go without changing the water?
How did you control the temp of the water? And how did you reach the card you cut?
The cord is for a light. The freezer still has power
Was wondering how is Sikaflex 291 holding up? How long it has been since you applied the caulking?
It’s been great
Question: since you blocked off the drainage hole.. how do you drain this thing?
I use a hose to siphon the water out. The drain style that's built-in is not made to work with holding in water. It deliberately lets water out on purpose, it's more of a one-way valve than a drain. You could plumb in a dedicated drain if that's important to you.
