It's more of a joke than anything. In reality it was a perfect storm in Game 4. The intensity and desperation combined with the improved defense and shooting of the Mavs mixed with the Celtics doing what they do many times which is take plays off and then not knowing how to stop the flood gates after they've opened, lead to this blowout. I don't see this happening again, but it's easy to see the Celtics were not mentally ready for this game and the Mavs took every advantage. I mean we can see this in smaller moments in Game 2 and 3 where the Celtics got a 20+ point lead and then nearly give it away because instead of staying with the same offensive intensity they played with to get the lead, they try to slow the game down, waste time, play "iso" ball and it leads to them taking bad shots, not moving the ball, leading to turnovers, and allowing the Mavs to go on their own 20-0 run.

Brown and Tatum, and ESPECIALLY Jrue Holiday got completely hounded when they dribbled inside the arc, forcing many turnovers, rushed shots, and just timid offensive plays overall. When those guys are struggling, Derrick white and Payton pritchard aren't capable enough ball handlers to take any pressure off. Obviously, having porzingis out was more of an issue this game, especially with all the missed layups just becoming easy rebounds for Dereck Lively. Personally, I thought the refs were being INSANELY lax on allowing hacking and bumping, so like Luka cried for last game, "physical" defense was full-go, which led to more turnovers and bad shots by the C's. But, most of the contact is reasonable to be legal in the playoffs. Just the perfect storm of aggresive defense by the mavs, timid offense by the c's, and looser refereeing allowing the mavs style of defense to shine. And no, I don't believe the refereeing was consistent and caused the celtics to play softer defense, so no the Celtics did not seem to be allowed to match the physicality.
