    I don't think we'll know how genius Karp is until 10 years out. Maybe less. But he's living in a world where we can't even fathom yet. Thanks CodeStrap...can't wait for the work you have in mind to come to light. Also, can't wait for you to go balls deep in talking about this decentralized world of software...still can't fully comprehend it

    That was an amazing Palantir video. I have so much respect for Dr. Karp. Now more than ever the bets that Palantir have made a long time ago about the kind of world we need to be prepared for and what would be necessary are looking clairvoyant. The world needs Palantir now more than ever. I don’t know obviously, but I hope they are helping to fight against Russia now in Ukraine. If so I hope they are helping to save lives, and if necessary end them. 2200 shares long and adding every 2 weeks. Be the thing the world needs, PLTR.

    Amazing piece of content- the clip with the gentleman speaking about social media is eye-opening- thank you for that. One small comment- and you can take it or leave it- but, the canned patriotic music you speak over…. maybe consider not using it. Forgive me, but I always find it to be cliche and odd- unnecessary at best when people use that weird soundtrack in inspirational clips. You talking over pure silence has worked up until now. That said- keep up the good work, sir +

    I've found that this dynamics of walking on eggshells and watching what you say in university is especially present in the anglosphere (USA, Canada, UK, Australia) which is plagued by those ideas. It is entering other universities, but at a slower rate (even if social media is equally consumed).
    On another note, have you seen Karp participation in the Munich Security Conference? Very insightful and it felt like Karp is pretty at ease with addressing the concerns of regulators around data (like when he was questionned by Kenneth Roth from the Human Rights Watch)

    • @codestrap8031
      @codestrap8031  Před 2 lety +2

      Also, the question you mentioned and the response. First, Roth doesn't understand the way PLTR processes data, the nuance around data ownership and governance, and the different business models of tech companies. But its not essential for the point hes making. I think ultimately this comes down to oversight, which Karp welcomes, at least outside the counter terrorism space. But both in the technical solution that provides strong guarantees built into the system, which decentralization can solve, and central authorities enforcing law. Theres so much to unpack in his response though it deserves a proper conversation.

    Always found ur videos to be very insightful. But.. for this video i can't seem to get the connection. First part on the presentation abt global issue on mental health then to Alex Karp investing on these start up or innovative companies as part of Palantir's system for decentralisation.
    How does this correlate to SPAC? Isn't SPAC companies w/o real operations ?

    • @codestrap8031
      @codestrap8031  Před 2 lety +5

      Theres a lot to unpack here. Decentralization has a ton of layers including distributed data, homogeneous compute abstracted from the underlying cloud provider, edge AI, consensus algorithms, data privacy and a lot more. In this video I want to focus on the data privacy issue. Karp recognizes the threat we face from social media. His comments are supported by Hait's research. How do you solve that problem though when the issue is the underlying business model? Build a platform where the user owns their data and it can't be used to drive engagement. Thats a decentralized model that forces the developer to deliver actual value instead of extracting the value from the user. In this regard PLTR serves as the capitol allocator for the next generation of developers who will commit to solving this problem. They also have the software required to understand a dissagregated data landscape, and deliver value to it. In the interview clip Karp openly states that they have to build the relationships to find the individuals who share thier vision for this new generation of decentralized products that will be built on Foundry. Its my opinion those SPAC investments and the Foundry for Builders program are the mechanism to build those relationships. Why fight losing battles with people clinging to legacy software if you can just invest in the people you don't need to convince and put everyone else out of business? That's the connection. Build the future on Foundry with ethical use of ML/AI in a world that will desperately need it to cope with huge disruptions, one of which are platforms where the user is the product.

      @@codestrap8031 Thank you for going into great details. I think I was really confused with the definition of SPACs because when referring to Google for it's definiton. SPACs meant shell company w/o real operations. However in your case, SPACs seems to be the innovative start ups that doesn't mind to be part of big tech companies like Palantir.

    • @codestrap8031
      @codestrap8031  Před 2 lety +1

      I'm pretty sure all the companies the invested in were SPACs. There's a ton of analysis out there on whether that was the right strategy because the SPAC market generally is getting destroyed right now. So just using it as a stand in for: The SPACs PLTR invested in.

    Fundamentally is social media really the cause of these problems?
    Social media has added so much value to soceity, that i could not possible see my life living without it.
    But what is causing this huge impact on society, is that social media is engineered to be addicting.
    And why is it engineered to be addicting, because companies want to have consumers spend the most time possible on their platform.
    By doing this they can monetize the time spent and show growth and keep the share price rising.
    This fundamental concept has led to:
    - people swiping mindlessly
    - people watching video's instead of being productive
    - Games being designed with addictive loops (Call of Duty)
    - Lootboxes being sold in games and making kids addicted to gambling
    And this concept of showing growth and keeping share prices rising has have other impacts on the world:
    - The meat industry
    - Child labor
    - Global warming
    social media really isn't the biggest evil out there and is not the root cause of these problems.

If you are into this topic be sure to checkout the full debate linked in the description. The Q&A portion is awesome and dives into all these questions. Haidt still comes out on top moving more people towards his position.
