Had to run into Wilson for a few things, on the way back saw 12 bags of leaves bagged and ready. The lady said come back later in the week she'll have more bags ready. Love your content, we relocated from Maryland onto an acre. Our first task are chickens in a chicken tractor, next will be vegetables, herbs and fruit trees.

Local supermarket usually let you go thru their garbage. It is called dumpster diving, and you will find so much good food that everything is in their package's boxes. I have pick up bananas lemon apple all kinds of still good food. It is very sad to see how much food they waste. Feeding the chicken and pig only carb bread is not a good idea if you will be eating those animals. A lot of supermarkets throw away produces veggies that are still good to eat for human or animals.

Only issue with food scraps is most of the food is GMO tainted. Paul Gautschi from Back to Eden feeds his birds everything out of his garden year around. Legit. Pigs....that's a different story for feed...you have alot of good, resourceful ideas regardless.

I’ve been doing this for a few years. I have two groceries I get produce from. Used to be a third store until the produce manager got a better job elsewhere. New manager is just like the big change stores and throws it all away.

A number of counties in Alberta, Canada run Loop Resource Programs that return waste food products back to farmers to feed animals. Lots of information available on the internet to see how these programs are working.

Awesome. I was at a garden stand. Bananas were a day over ripe. Fruit flies were happy but customers were annoyed so they put up a free bananas sign. Peals went into my compost. Flash froze cut up bananas for smoothies.

Others have mentioned Aldi, but what some do not know, is that Aldi takes food off the shelves the day before expiration and donates it to local charities.
Plus, it is not too hard to setup getting scraps from them. They want what would otherwise be wasted to be of us. They do NOT want a ton of publicity about it. It is more of a helpful thing in the background, rather than something the talk about.

This is fantastic, and I want to try it using these great tips .. but, for layers, do you consider the nutritional needs? Im just wondering how it might affect my egg production rate. I suppose I can give random stuff Im able to scavenge like this plus offer free choice calcium source, but idk about all the other important nutrients. Either way, Im going to give it a shot, bc the bag feed isnt cheap, and despite them supposedly mixing specifically for laying chickens, we all are aware of the recent issues with bad feed reducing egg laying. Thanks.
