I didn't play competitively during the time period so I was actually believing him up to when he said Chaos Max was ever meta and I was then it clicked for me
I got it as soon as I saw the tital cause he did something last year and I had seen other stuff. However the seriousness in which he delivers this going through small interactions and talking about match ups is just superb. If he picks a slightly more believable topic next year (just a little bit), then he could fool a lot of people.
This will come back to bite Dzeff when he loses to cloudians in his next YCS

Cloudian Veil
When this card is activated: Place 1 Fog Counter on each face-up monster. "Cloudian" monsters with 1 or more Fog Counters cannot be destroyed by their own effects, also they cannot be targeted or destroyed by your opponent's card effects. If this card is in your GY or is banished: You can remove 3 Fog Counters from your field; add this card to your hand. When this face-up card leaves the field: You can add 1 "Cloudian Veil" from your Deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Cloudian Veil" once per turn.
The only reason cloudians haven’t topped an event this year is because no one realizes how easily they can summon the winged dragon of ra for an otk
Its a very simple OTK, you pay 7900 LP, and as everbody knows, LP dont matter!

I actually use it w/Slypher. Ra taking almost all of your lifepoints and leaving you at 100 leaves you open to getting taken down by a lucky effect damage card.

Ah yes, I remember when I fought against Cloudians years ago and how tough it was to beat them...even my 1900 ATK Volcanic Rocket had issues running over their high attacking monsters. Sadly, in todays meta Volcanics can't beat them anymore because Cloudians got a New support spell card and Volcanics got nothing...

Well, with the new spell you can pretty much spam every link monster in your Extra deck with Turbulence alone. Too bad we aren't on the age of Extra Links being a win condition anymore...

You know, Dzeeff clearly has no idea about how to play Cloudians! He didn't even mention their interactions with Genex and Mermails, or how they won WCS 2014.

The moment you said the words “counters” and “good” without the word “not” in between them, I knew something was up
There’s a couple Alien quick-plays that are neat with A-Counters. “A” Cell Recombination Device mills an Alien to spread A-counters equal to its level and Mysterious Triangle pops something with an A-counter to summon a level 4 Alien from your deck.
If I didn't know going into this that it was April Fool's Day and that Cloudians were never good, this might have been able to fool me. Mostly because dzeef does such a great job of selling how good Cloudians are that it starts to make sense, and I'm casual enough to not immediately spot their weaknesses.
The Block Attack part might have been a bit too much though. I know no one was playing that card even way back in old school YuGiOh.
If I had to guess, I think the problems with Cloudians are:
-They have no protection
-Spirit Barrier is also easy to remove (and pretty much everyone playing seriously will have some sort of back row removal, even if it's only in the side deck)
-Their attack stats are so low that they will never destroy your opponents monsters, and they won't be able to absorb enough battle damage to keep you alive without Spirit Barrier or similar cards
-Just stalling your opponent without also having ways to stop their plays will eventually lead to them drawing everything they need to beat you
-They are very reliant on normal summons
-They are way too slow. They might be able to swarm with Smoke Balls around turn three or four, if the opponent does literally nothing before then, but they're more likely to have already lost by then.
How did I do?
They need some card like Madolche Salon to make them work... ( it funny they give a spam deck like Maldoche another normal summon but not the heavy normal summon like Cloudian... )

I didn’t know this was a joke until I scrolled down. I recently built Cloudian inspired by a Samurai X video and noticed all of these problems when battling a modern deck.
So I was waiting for the part of this video where he described a banned card that once made this deck broken. When I didn’t see that I scrolled down and it all made sense. And then I heard the Chaos max comment and had no further doubts about the satire lol.
@@Kintaku I haven't seen that video, but I do remember one MBT made a few months ago about Cloudian Darklord. It turned out that Cloudians can make a competent Link spam engine, though I think it basically requires you to open Turbulence and Aerosol, so it's not exactly consistent or resilient.
And I think that everything in that deck was legal back when this video was made, so someone could have been playing it back then. I don't think many people were trying to break Cloudians at the time though.

It’s fun when you get to fog counters rolling and Santuary on the board but it’s super slow to set up
Great video! Love seeing the OG decks like Cloudian get the attention they deserve. You just forgot to mention 1 thing, Sanctuary in the Sky was also occasionally played for having the same effect as Spirit Barrier. However, people decided against it because playing cards like Terraforming to search Sanctuary took up too much space and thus, less consistent.

He doesn't even mention the strat I used to use. Cloudian Xyz. They had access to fairy cheer, slacker magician, and bahamut shark.
I remember using Astral Barrier and Spirit Barrier together in almost every deck. Astral Barrier to change attacks on my monsters to direct attacks and Spirit Barrier to negate the damage from said direct attacks.
This Tier 0 deck just annihilated Locals back in the day

So I'm somebody who has played yugioh off and on since 2006 or so, and as a result, multiple formats have come and gone in between my "no longer interested in yugioh" phases.
Lately I've been obsessed with revisiting formats I missed and cataloging the various top tier decks that were played during those times, and I know my full picture as of now is incomplete, but I'd like to think I have a basic idea of yugioh's history at this point.
Then I come to this video 7 months late and think "wait, CLOUDAINS were a top tier strategy for years? How on earth did I miss this? Have I really been THAT bad at researching?"
So thank you Doug for giving me that brief moment of not believing in myself.

Dang, you showing that shooting quasar dragon on screen made me have a flashback all the way back to 2007 Cloudian-Fishborg loop Tier 0 format. I remember it was the finals of the Battle City Regional Tournament and I was going second and my opponent had amassed a board of Slifer the Sky Dragon, Obelisk the Tormentor, and of course Winged Dragon of Ra (obviously). I thought I was going to have to scoop, and felt really sad because I didn’t want to go to game 3 after shutting him down game 1 with the Spirit Barrier lock. And then I drew into Fishborg and looped him so hard I was able to end on not one, but three Shooting Quasars, and one Junk Warrior for coverage. Definitely the highlight of my time playing Yugioh and my favorite comeback to date. Such a shame Ko-MONEY had to print broken power creep support for the Ojamas next format, really just ruined Yu-Gi-Oh as a whole for me.
See this would be believable if Slifer wasn't on the field. It would blow up fishborg everytime it's summoned.
You must be remembering it wrong, which is understandable since it was almost 15 years ago
Exodia Decks I don’t know if you know this or not, but back then the top tables sided specifically to break through Slifer’s destroy effect. I can’t remember the exact cards, but the combo included a field spell like Umi and some continuous spells to buff the card past 2000 atk on summon. I definitely forgot some of the combo, but the idea behind it is still there. Thanks for keeping me on my toes though.
@@xBrayJay no prob, i don't remember that era too well so i overlooked how people used to use side decks. These days we just dump a few staples in and hope for the best, but it used to be where people sided for their worst matchup or smokescreened stuff in. The side deck was a second tool box instead of a place to put more handtraps.

I watched this on May 2nd, 2020, and he really had me until he brought up Tour Guide. I haven’t played since 2015-ish, so him saying they were good in years since was like, “I guess”, and I started in 2011, so him saying they were good before that was like, “I could see that”. But I knew for damn sure Cloudian Poison Cloud wasn’t why Tour Guide was an issue. Thanks for the chuckle Dzeef, you’re the only Yugituber I still watch even though I am years and years out of the loop at this point.

Holy shit i'm so glad that somebody finally talked about just how cancerous that Cloudian mirror match was. Especially when you'd end up playing it every single match of YCS and the tournament was just a complete crapshoot based on who drew Turbulence first I do not miss that one bit.
