Thanks Erik great video i just got my A7iv and was told it had lots of things from the A1 and A7Siii , wow they weren't kidding there's tons to learn and i am just a hobbyist-doing mostly pics and a bit of video starting 5 yrs ago using my A77 MKii great camera just not for indoor video use, this come in very useful to me ,A friend asked to to shoot another Home Routes concert at their B&B in June so i will best be ready as possible, the video was great at the new years eve party and i had the camera less than 24 hrs and just hit the record button on it and to my surprise it turned out really good and i don't really edit much, it's another skill to learn a bit at a time, i will use the info in this video 👍 oh ya , this thing is a beast in the cold I live in Manitoba this was our 3rd coldest and 2nd highest snowfall since 1881 and it was never phased at -30 -22 Fahrenheit , no fogging or battery degradation from the cold just me
I had both. Eventually sold A7iv because I couldn’t afford both cameras AND I wanted to futureproof with 8k and 30fps. But I prefer the screen of the A7iv
Nice comparison! Just one thing came to my mind. It seems you are using zone AF area. Would be nice to see how they both compare it set on wide AF area too.
@@erikdurnall9585 I understand for other situations, but when you holding a product in somewhere out of the zone area I thought this might override the product mode even in it's slightest level at least.
The A7IV does do better at subject detection however the A1 is more responsive to fast moving subjects and the electronic shutter of the A1 is just amazing. You you don’t do a lot of fast moving subjects and mostly do close range perched subjects, the A7IV could be a better choice for that.
Good comparison, Im wondering if you turned your subject sensitivity to its lowest setting and see how that performs. However the Ai of the a1 could be a blessing and a curse depending on the situation 🤷♂️
The A1 is very sensitive. It seems to completely ignore the subject detection setting and just go for whatever dominates the foreground. I probably should have pushed it even farther, but I just wanted to demonstrate the difference.
Am I missing something here... I mean you showed the A7IV subject shift sensitivity at locked on (setting position 1) and it locks on BUT you test it against the A1 at setting 3 and expect it to remain locked on? Why wouldn't you test them both at 1 (or 2) and test them equally?
Great video thank you 🙏
Definitely love my a7iv I am looking into the a1 in the near future

Thank you for this video, I was thinking about grabbing the A1 but the way you showed how this feature works I definitely prefer the A7 iv
I agree. The A7IV is a better choice for this use.
Hi Eric,
Recognized you from the Facebook A1 group. Nicely Done! Sub'd.

Great presentation. I have to customize my Fn button again :) And change my A7IV settings for 1 @ 1. Thanks for the tip. Channel subscribed.
You’re welcome! I continue to be impressed with the A7IV. It is so solid.
I guess setting on 1 would keep sticking to the point of the A74, no? So the A1 gives you all the differentials that the A74 cannot?
How big is the difference between sony a7iv(4k 24fps) vs sony a1(4k 24fps)? Considering a1 is pixel binning while a7iv uses full sensor readout.
What if I want it to focus on the product I'm presenting?

I never use wide, I actually remove that option from my AF area menu.

@@networm64 the A1 would most definitely jump to the foreground no matter what focus area you’re using. The A7IV would be locked onto the subject.
For Birding I would think the Sony a7 IV’s performance is preferable; especially with birds partly obscured by branches, etc.

Which remote is that one you showed for A1 please?
Sony RMT-DSLR2
