12 Superstars Who Randomly Became Bench Players!

- Superstars becoming bench players is a natural part of the NBA, but these 12 cases were a little different. In them, for one reason or another these guys just sort of fell off and now looking back you may not even remember what the exact moment was that they were moved into a bench role.

You know Dwight’s career between Charlotte and LA was so forgettable because he forgot that he played for the Wizards
Dwight was still getting double doubles in charlotte
@@uglygodjr.7168 that’s why I said from Charlotte because ppl still knew him
He barely played in Washington
@@dylam541 That is basically what he was saying. You slow huh? Lol
Ah yes after Blake Griffin’s utility of a high flyer died because of his injury, he was just “randomly” benched. So random 🥴
Can’t imagine why a freak athlete getting injured ruined his career…
You ain't never watched him in Detroit dude became a playmaking stretch big.
Ikr ..
That detroit allnba season is so forgotten about. Best year of his career by a mile
Wow I didn’t think that injury would bench him I mean it’s not like it directly effected his whole game or anything
As a Blake fan, i saw it coming just didn’t think it would be now.
Most of this list are just guys who got old and injured, this literally happens to 80% of the stars in the league. T-Mac, Billups, Shaq, Patrick Ewing, Vince Carter and so many more. Players are still good but their athleticism is zapped and they get injured easier as they get older
it blew me away how long Vinsanity played for. I wonder what age he would've retired at if he never adapted his game to his reduced athleticism over the years. Your name fits coz its a boss comment. Hope you're good 👌👌
Try 99.9%
Rajon would be crazy in the 80s and 90s
Some of these could have been seen coming tbh
Most players mentioned in this video weren't superstars... People nowadays be calling everyone a superstar
It Gettin out of hand
@@tredaytheplaymaker1579 fax
This..
A superstar to me is AT LEAST the best - sometimes 2nd best as well, on a team that reach the final OR a top 2 player from a mvp vote. Not saying that all teams that reaches the finale has a superstar.
I dont even think that the suns have a superstar .. No disrespect to Chris Paul, he is a star player... but get a ring and I might call you "super"
@@freze0 superstar is like a top 10 player or leader of a contender. So Ja is a superstar. cp3 isnt anymore. luka is, kawhi, embiid jokic curry lebron giannis kd pg13 maybe
you forgot the fact that whiteside played for the blazers during the bubble and 2020 as a whole where he became a great starter and all star
Lol he wasn’t an all star at all, he was solid. That’s all
When Blake and the pistons were sweped in game 4 vs Milwaukee I knew his career was over. Watching him walk to the bench with his injured leg I saw a once proud amazing athlete realize in that moment he wasn't going to be the same ever again.
His first 2 years in Detroit were good, but has been washed since he got traded to Brooklyn.
Love the vids keep it up
Dwight brought energy off the bench ... He led the second unit
Oof... lot of these hurt but the reality of the NBA
Time STAMPS
Intro: 0:00
Dwight Howard: 0:20
Carmelo Anthony: 1:16
Blake Griffin: 2:22
Jabari Parker: 3:26
Rajon Rondo: 4:16
Roy Hibbert: 5:24
Hassan Whiteside: 6:31
Chandler Parsons: 7:28
Andre Iguodala: 8:17
Kevin Love: 8:59
None of these role changes are random. There are very specific reasons in each case.
He didn’t do his research very well, in Melo case there is one known by most and talked by few
Now do 'from bench player to superstar/starter' list.
When I get drafted for the 3rd time I will be mvp at my old age! My grandson will stay good FOREVER!
Top ten single season improvements
Only superstars on this list was Dwight, Blake, and Love. You really included Chandler Parsons 😭
Melo is an all star
@@marcuscheese8424 So was Rondo. But in my opinion, Melo is the most overrated star of all time. His advanced stats are terrible
Melo was better than all of them and it's easy (he still is better than those 3)
@@croskoal not Dwight. Dwight is the only 3 time consecutive DPOY winner ever, led his team to the finals(something Melo hasn’t done), More All NBA 1st Teams, much more impactful, whether on the bench(as we saw with the lakers) or as the main guy before injury. The fact that Melo is in the top 75 and Dwight isn’t is criminal
@@devinsanidiot1150 I know the accolades, Dwight's are impressive for sure. Melo was still a better player in my opinion
Austin what do you consider a superstar? Because i doubt that people consider these players for being superstars.. Maybe prime Blake, but it wasnt 2012 Blake that was benched..
special mentions:
Kenneth Faried-once a member of TEAM USA and the starter for the Nuggets
Monta Ellis- before steph curry became a superstar on Golden State, Monta Ellis is a starting PG on GSW
Isiaih Thomas- The Franchise Player for the Celtics before Lebron James recruites him on Cavs 😂 forming starting 12 with Drose, wade, love, thompson, smith, shumpert, etc
Derrick Rose- THE YOUNGEST MVP!! Now a role player for the NYK, Injuries stop him for achieving lots of MVP's apportunity.
Andre Drummond- once a member of TEAM USA, now I don't know where he is now? injured? bench player? out of the League? retired? what?
i wish blake never got injured man. :(
Lana rhodes...
Didn’t Howard have back issues at one point??
Yeah pretty sure he was fresh off back surgery when he got to the lakers
Yea the Blake one threw me off cause he literally was just an all star
u forgot drummond
Bcuz Blake Griffin strength & athleticism has been transferred to Lana Rhodes...
People aging = RANDOMLY
I feel like some of rondos fall off was because he had chemistry and tenure with Boston he knew the game plan then after that he bounces all over playing with different stars for a season or a half and half year. Its hard to he that floor general when you never build chemistry or continuity.
Blake is underrated even if hes a bench player prime blake was unstoppable
But he was easily stop by lana rhodes...
@@jueviolegrace8827 why you gotta do him like that😭😭
erm...it would have been random if any of these players were given a starting position. Random that some of these were even given a contract at that time.
yo i got an idea you should try, all time starting 5s for colors (i.e. red is teams like Chicago, Miami, etc.)
Ah yes Dwight Howard just coming off a Horrible Back Injury with the wizards is "randomly" Coming of the bench so fucking random
This is the way the world go on
Kemba walker from all star starter to journey man
Shouldn't have been an all star
He led Boston to one of the best records in the bubble season. He was on the list every week for Kia MVP at that time. People forget how good he was playing that year before Tatum and Brown took the reigns. Partly because they ascended and partially because Kemba was dealing with a knee injury. The injury that still affects him to this day.
Damn that Chandler Parsons story took a hell of a twist.
none of these players got “randomly” benched they got old or got injured and regressed so they got their spot taken its nothing random to it time catches up to everyone
Great thing we got nba2k we can always play prime random bench players lmao
Dwight has had serious back problems and his been in the league for awhile.
This video just goes to show how Steph Curry is the most influential basketball player of all time
Not on planet earth bro
Is a reality on almost every NBA players
This could be renamed “a couple NBA stars and a few pretty good players who got old” (and a draft bust)
Mans saying 30-35 years old is their prime years lol
Griffin shooting on a different Ring
Drummond and Dragic honorable mentions
It’s almost all injuries
Alternate title: 12 players who got worse as they got older cause that’s how life works
Dwight had a steady decline. Carmelo was not a winning player in his last New York days. The only thing that made him considered a stars where his scoring numbers, but he just took a shit ton of shots.
Blake took a very small role in order to win a chip. Same for Lamarcus.
From NBA Star to secret Weapon.
If you make a part 2 put tyreak evans
Blake take care of your son he is finna be the best ball handler ever
W
Wastebrixk gonna be the next
kelly oubre(ish), isaiah thomas, demarcus cousins, nate robinson, jr smith, nick young, diangelo russell(ish), lou will, fultz, dsj, mitchell robinson. those r a few i can think of off the top of my head who’s career kind of took an odd turn. i understand that some of em were derailed by injuries & some got time to prove themselves.
D'Lo never plays on the bench bro
And Mitchell Robinson kinda stayed exactly the same
@@rueservin i just meant like they seemed like they were built for greatness/massive stars that faded into obscurity.
recall Blake missed entire rookie season with a cracked kneecap...
Dwight had a back injury and surgery when he went to the lakers the 1st time. That was when he changed, not the 2nd Lakers run
U realize aint know one gonna be the same after 2 knee surgeries let alone 1 my dad had 1 a few years back and he cant run as fast jump any more the kenn will hurt in the bad weather
I used to have Kevin Loves’ dad bubble gum card. Way better career than dad. Uncle was in The Beach Boys.
You missed Deandre Ayton...I mean Deandre Jordan.
Loved the video but these low fps clips made it hard to watch.
Daddy Austin 😩
Yessir
Ain't nun random bout these dudes getting benched, either got injured or just reclined due to age
Cool empty calorie video but you have a weird idea of when players’ primes begin and end
Bro you completely messed up the whole Melo situation. He wasn't bad on the Knicks but he didn't make the team better. The Knicks wanted to trade him but it didn't work out because of his no trade clause and then Melo agreed on waiving this clause
RIP MAMBA AND MAMBACITA
Damn
Besides Melo and Dwight, were ANY of these other guys superstars? Allstars, sure. Top 25 guys in the league at their peaks, maybe. Superstar? Rondo? Parsons? Whiteside????
C’mon man.
Fr some were never even an all star
Melo wasn't a superstar 🤷🏾♂️
Kemba Walker?
Paul George was messing w his wife, that had a big impact on him
Deron Williams or kemba walker
Injury?
Yo I think you're forgetting Andre Drummond...
this mindset that the second unit is worthless is why so many teams are terrible. If you dont have a strong bench you're not gonna win a championship.
12 Superstars... Were J.Parker, R.Rondo. Hibbert, Whiteside, Parsons and Iguodala superstars? Superstars?
Guy doesn't understand that putting up stats for shitty teams and being a starter on a contender are totally different things
Hibbert was the biggest L for me, he was dominant for like 2 seasons. He got exposed in the playoffs though, he just couldn’t score and he’s too slow to keep up if the other team plays a fast pace game.
Lou williams and eric bledsoea
Aldridge as well
we all know who inspired this video 😂
Blake wasn't Random when he is coming off the bench. The Clips were smart to trade him, the Pistons were dumb to start him. He is old, has poor range, not that good of a defender/rebounder and lost a step.
He had a few good seasons with one of the best point guards ever and then after that...well nothing.
My guy he had a career season before he got injured… he had a pretty big improvement in terms of shooting and on the nets he became a solid defender. He literally had one season after he was traded before he had an injury and was on Detroit with just Drummond until he was traded. You just gotta love when people don’t use context to push their opinion 😭💀
@@hoodie_bron My opinion? If he was that good, Why did the Clips trade him? Why did the Pistons cut him? Why did Brooklyn not start him?
If it was MY opinion, it sure seems like a lot of professionals agreed with me.
@@TheFett79 clips traded him to rebuild because they only really had Blake and a ok bench after cp3 and deandre left but that turned into competing because pg and kawhi wanted sign there. The pistons again wanted to rebuild and he was bought out not cut. Brooklyn didn’t start him because Steve Nash had bad lineups. Just say you’re a casual and be done with it. You can’t even add context to support your argument 😭💀
Celtics ruined him.. I remember one game he had like 4 pts and 10 Rebs in a playoff game vs the Celtics. After that he was never the same again! People figured out if you just keep him from dunking he cannot score. He had no post up game and his shooting is terrible. He turned into a rebounder and someone who gets garbage pts with put backs.
alot of these players play trough injury which they shouldnt
Hey did Blake have a kid with some prnstar…?
Yes
John wall should be on this list
Sad to say but Demarcus cousins to
Blake wasn’t a superstar he was a star
Dwight - Age and Injury, he has lost a lot of athleticism. Also NBA was shifting away from post-up center. Dwight does not offer much post play anyway
Melo - Age and Ego
Blake Griffin - Injury
Rondo - No 3pts + age
Jabari Parker - Bust
Hilbbert is a traditional C who was thriving in Pacers system only
H.Whiteside - Overrated and attitude
Parson - destroyed by injury
Igoudala - Bench by the great Warriors is not bad
Love - Cavs wants to move on from him
Main reason, chemistry, lack of fighting spirit, will to cross their limits for a win. Aka mamba mentality; a mamba will keep biting you even after you're done for.
Especially Howard: had worst team chemistry👨🔬
Blake fell off in looks too surprised he even got Lana rhodes
It’s not random.. they just got washed ahead of schedule. It happens even to the best of players..
Do you know what randomly means
Draymond green averaged 7 points and is a starter 🤷♂️ and he wants a max contract
You forgot to put d. Rose on the list.
theres no such fully healthy after a surgery
ok but how does this affect lebrons legacy
These were suprising only to you I think
thia frame rate hurts
anyone think LaMarcus Aldridge should be on the list?
Most of these are age or injury related, not exactly random
"Randomly" aka multiple injuries
blake was atstar 2019
