The second you said Harry Potter was your first chapter books, I said "same!" It was also the first continual story I ever read, so I didn't know you had to start with the first one. The first one I read was Prisoner of Azkaban, and I had no clue what was going on and why someone was screaming down the phone trying to talk to Harry and why his uncle was so angry about it. To this day Azkaban is my favorite both book and film of the series.
Side comment: the Underrealm series was introduced to be by my roommate hearing about it since part of the universe is basically an LGBT Harry Potter. I gobbled the whole nine book universe and I still go back to it even though it's only been about four years since I read it all. The Academy Journals is the portion about a magical school. It's so good, I think you'll love it, seeing how much your Potter books were well loved.
Hey Sam have you considered writing your own books? I am currently working on my own Memoir Uniqueness Authentically Me! And I am done writing my first book Imagine different Families. It is in fact my first ever children’s book and I am proud of it.
If I could only rec one book it would be The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave My most hated book One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Keesey bc it's one of the most misogynistic things I've read and the mc acts like that terrible orange guy
