I LOVE this! ✨ Haven't seen a Mock Apple Pie in YEARS!
And what about the sock-it-to-me cake?✨ My momma made the BEST!! ✨ I can still smell that wonderful cake cooking in her 1970's kitchen at her Tupperware parties. YUM! 😋
Apple pie is okay, but mock apple pie is banned because it lost the taste! 😊

never really cooked anything with persimmons before.....i eat a lot them every autumn when they're in the supermarkets but never tried doing anything more with them

I'd like to point out that the reason you probably don't see Eccles cakes either in British expat homes or bakeries serving majority British expat communities in the US anymore is because for most modern day Brits, Eccles cakes are factory made pastries in striped plastic wrapper you might find at a petrol station (gas station). Some years ago Eccles cakes made the news because despite the clear statement on the wrapper saying that 'If you wish to eat the Ecs warm, then warm them up in a -proper- oven', people were putting them in the microwave. Lancashire* Fire and Rescue said that of the 16 food related incidents they had been called to in the previous two years, 3 were caused by people warming up Ecs**.
*= Even though they are available all over Britain, Ecs' heartland is still centred around Eccles (the town it got it's name from) a town near Manchester.
**= On top of Ecs' there is generally a layer of caramelised sugar, when you warm up caramelised sugar in the way a microwave does it is liable to catch fire
Just bought a pineapple pie last week. In New York. Never heard of most of these. Food in America was really diverse depending on where you live and what was available. Here in New York we're famous for half moon cookies (black and white;depending on where you live in New York), cheesecake and Italian bakeries. Shoefly pie is still sold; can occasionally find it in New York but definitely in Pennsylvania.
I'm not sure which mis-pronunciation is my favorite in this one. Maybe "Noel"? It's not a guy's name, dude.
