I don’t know whether Eze will end up being our man or not, but it feels like there’s a definite trend developing with some of these links - Eze, Simons, Doué, etc - all very similar, multi-functional attackers, happy going left, right or through the middle. Makes sense - there’ll be far more minutes on offer for a player like that, and it adds a lot of depth to 3 key areas in one move.

At this point of Arsenal’s development, lots of academy talents will turn out not good enough for the 1st team. And a 20 minute cameo against PSV will not change that. Edu & Arteta have more information on these kids than any of us. We cannot hope to contend for big titles and want the 1st team loaded with academy products, they will get there if good enough. They need to move on to 1st team on mid/lower table teams, like Reiss, Willock, etc.

Would it be fair to say Arsenal are seemingly waiting for PSR to refresh prior to signing? Hence the quiet news

The Arteta criticism of not playing younger players is bonkers. These same people would be screaming for him to be sacked if he played some of these players (who let’s be honest most likely aren’t even good enough for first team) and we end up dropping points. There’s no margin for error when the stakes are as high as they are now and it’s Arteta that lives and dies by these decisions.

Hi Charles, With Tierney, he gets injured so often now that I don't think we can rely on him even as a depth option, because we could put him on for one match and he could do a hamstring again and be out for the rest of the season. I agree with paying him off and let him move on. I think he should take a long look at his injury record and move on from playing too, as he's just going from injury to injury, it's not a career any more and it's probably not good for his mental health to keep repeating the process of play a few games, get injured, take months of to recover.

Couple of things Charles. 1. The Premier League look at every transfer and assess if it is of fair value. They have done that for a while. So the clubs you mentioned *could* be breaking rules. Will be interesting to see what happens. 2. Is wrong to say Okonkwo has moved on a free as because of his age Arsenal will be due some compensation and usually a % of future transfer too. Is all part of the Bosman rules. Might not be much but will be something.

Might get some minutes as there are no backup for Kane too. Our youth systems need to change. At least send the youth out loan on a proper timing and don't let their contract run until the final years. Great vid Charles, love the transfer window content. On Eze I wonder if we're hyping him too much. He's obviously a very good talent who I've rated highly for a long time, but I also think playing for a mid table team allows him to be a focal point and as a result get more praise as a main man. I look at him and see a 25 year old dynamic 8 who can also play as a 10 or LW with a great first touch who's a very strong dribbler. For me, we already have one of those who's even younger in Smith Rowe. I think if Smith Rowe was at a team like Palace he'd be getting this level of praise and would have our fans begging for us to sign him. If he can't get the game time at Arsenal, why will Eze? Would love to hear your thoughts, keep up the great work!

KT might well come back from the injury physically, but he has already left in his head. Sell him cheap to Celtic.
We are in four comps, plus u21's 2 comps. We need a big squad to win the quad. There are now 16 players who should get on the pitch every game. To push the squad to improve all of those players need someone pushing them, hence 30. If we want to be the team who avoids flatspots (our undoing last year) we need to use all 5 subs in all games. The rule change has only been used lightly by prem managers, someone will cotton on to what a massive tool 5 subs can be and they will win more games by being active in replacement in the tire phase between 65 and 75 mins. I would argue that we certainly need 3 names for each position. 8 fresh legs at the 65 min, not only will reduce injury, but tilt results in our favour. Without competition for those places concentration and development will suffer. (Other opinions exist).

Lots of people making uninformed comments about our academy players - one academy talent making the first team squad every two or three years is good going. Players who get to 19-20 and haven't broken through are unlikely to. We've also raised the bar and we have established players from the academy like Nketiah and Nelson who aren't good enough now for this improving Arsenal. However, I do agree we should be looking to make some money on young talent when they go, to help recoup our academy costs.

I think there's a bit of an overreaction to young players leaving the Club. If we look back over the previous 15 years, I think there are only three young players who left for nothing that are doing well today - Gnabry, Malen and Bennacer. Our problem isn't that we don't give young players a chance. It's that we hang on to them for too long, by which time they've lost value. Maitland-Niles, ESR, Eddie and Nelson are prime examples.

  • @mhe87
    @mhe87 Před 6 dny

I think if we're bring honest with ourselves, 60 million pounds is a fair price for a combined Nketiah/ESR/Nelson. Doing a straight swap of those 3 for Eze (no cash going either way) would be a win-win situation for everyone involved. Crystal Palace have no leverage with Eze because of his release clause. They immediately turn him into 3 players that are young, talented, fill holes in their squad, have scored Premier League goals, English, and already settled in London. It's also a good home for those 3 players. Arsenal gets a very high quality English player that can play leftside 8 and left wing. Arsenal also doesn't have to spend any more energy finding buyers for these 3 players.

He plays the same players all the time its a wonder we haven't suffered more injuries, but that wont continue forever, the longer the players play so much games, the closer they will get to injuries. Obi is not the only young to have scored 32 goals in a season! None of those players in various premier and championship league clubs have never made to the top ten clubs in the Premier League!

I agree with that comment saying you keep defending Arteta
He can't have those kids on his bench on a regular basis
We lossing Patino who is clearly a needed kind of profile and plays the position that we keep having difficulties on finding good players for
Whether you like it or not he is costing us players that we might go for again in the future like Eze

I actually thought the guy who said he keeps defending Arteta was a bit dim.
It's up to Mertesacker to make sure these players get loaned out earlier and contracts signed and if they aren't good enough, which they aren't, to be sold for a good fee.
It's also up to the club to get a youth setup on a par with City and Chelsea which by all reports theyre addressing.
MLS and Nwaneri are the only 1st team potential players in Artetas time.
Ye would be the first to cry if Arthur Okonkwo was getting game time or even on the bench. The issue is they didn't get money for him, which isn't on Arteta.

There’s players I’d prefer over Eze ngl. But if some sort of swap for Nketiah and Nelson (plus 20-30m?) then I’d be up for it.
Those 2 are mid table players (let’s be honest) who I’d love to see be starters and thrive for a team like Palace.

  • @thepremierleaguechat.6519

Agree Charles, more young players are leaving at early ages than ever before, it's everywhere.
Chelsea lost Musiala (free), Geuhi & now Maatsan, good players.
City lost Sancho (free) & Palmer. The goal is to remain at the top, not bringing young players through! Even Fergie lost Pogba due to pathway issues
We have over 9 senior players for the bench, Martinelli, Jesus, Timber, Eddie, Vieira, Jorginho, Kiwior, Zinchenko, Ramsdale, how can the youngsters even make the bench. Realistically, most of these youngsters have no chance of even making the bench, not to talk of playing!
15 mins against PSV wouldn't make ACD sign a new a contract!

Why do you feel obligated to defend anything that comes out of Arsenal football club and Mikel Arteta? Academy graduates leaving for free defeats the sole purpose of having an academy which is progression to the first team and generating revenue from player sales. This pervasive issue of lack of income from player sales needs to be addressed seriously. By the way I’m gutted Olise is going to Bayern. Bayerns is blessed with musiala, Coman, gnarby and sane and they still went ahead to sign Olise. This is how big clubs roll. Always trying to improve the team. According to some arsenal fans, we don’t need Olise because we’ve Bukayo.

    Hey Charles,
There's are fans who're worried about Mikel not promoting young players...
These lads aren't ready to play for arsenal, the club is challenging for a title (2yrs in a row). We can't eat our cake and have it.
It only becomes an issue when we get to the very top and we don't promote from the academy.
    What's the word on Gyokeres?

Hello Charles. This might be too much of Football Manager speaking but I have come to understand that there are soo many other considerations involved when deciding to keep or sell/loan a player. Is KT's wages worth keeping him for maybe 12-15 appearances mostly substitute? Will he be taking a squad place that could have been better utilised? What does having a senior player like that not featuring do to squad dynamics? Does KT want to go play elsewhere more regularly and if denied, how does that affect him and what does it say to other players? It's not as simple as fans think it is.

  • @frazerjohnson5395
    @frazerjohnson5395 Před 6 dny

Eze, yes yes yes! A player that gets ‘bums off seats’ & can create something out of nothing. He can play anywhere along the front three & even slip into the left 8. His versatility will appeal to Arteta & he’s prem proven which ticks a lot of boxes! However, like all these Prem proven players who would seemingly slip perfectly into our squad/system, the recurring theme is, like Pedro Neto, an injury record follows them. Eze’s missed 31 games in 4 seasons, almost missing collectively a whole season which is something to bear in mind considering the potential outlay. However, Neto has always suffered & will continue to suffer with hamstring issues due to his explosive style of play therefore I feel the risk is less with Eze and worth the gamble (if you’d call it that) Top player and brings creativity and goals. Get it done Edu!
Love the videos & keep up the good work Charles.

Charles, Eze makes alot of sense, he can cover the left 8, he can come in for ordegaad in the no. 10 role, and provide cover for the left wing, he covers 3 positions and he can do all 3 effectively i.e like no drop in quality in all three positions

Eze is the player i want most, exactly what we need
Can play as an 8 or wide, gets on the ball makes things happen. Can play with Odegaard but also if Odegaard ever cant play he can also bring some of the things Odegaard does, we need a player like that as Odegaard cant play every game again
I think Xavi Simons and Kudus are similar alternatives. Kudus will defo have a release clause as bigger clubs than West Ham wanted him last summer but couldnt do the deal, im surprised he joined west ham, but he will see it as a stepping stone, so will be a clause
