Unfortunately my memory card snapped hours after me shooting this, so lost the walk around and outside shots!
Jamie for future reviews , please show vehicle exterior looks and features rather than full driving review
@@teamallyracing1780 he literally just explained why that's missing, smfh
So you do know where the comments are :)
@scorted - I was actually just thinking the same. Dare I ask what the score is with the Fiesta Jamie? Seems to have appeared and vanished again 🤦♂️
Man version of Queen B, same size 😂🤣👌🏻
Because it looks like a school shoe your mum used to buy you from Clarke’s because they’re ‘hard wearing’.
Pmsl best comment ever !
😂 best coment!!!!
This comment lol 😂
hahahah true.
you poor kid
Come on...over 3 minutes repeating the same thing. Turbo and supercharged. Got bored and stopped watching.
But it makes a great talking point 😂
@@simonkempthorne4610 but can you believe it's actually, literally turbo charged AND supercharged...literally
Completely agree he annoyed me he’s so repetitive!!!! What else is interesting about the bloody car ?
Man most people don't get the point, even if you keep repeating it for 2 years...
On top of that the answer is obvious: it looks like my grandma's weekend shopping car even in the VRS version. For a car in this category, no matter what is under the bonnet if it doesn't look cool.
"why is no one buying the MK2 Skoda Fabia VRS?"
You said it yourself. 1.4 TSI was a piece of garbage.
Incorrect, it was a very good engine especially in the real world, any one that actually lived with one will tell you the same
@@thelewisshow555 i can confirm it i have a octavia 1.4 tsi 2009, no problems 400k kilometres and no problems at all. All that broke was a a valve. It didnt broke, but got burnt. Nothing expensive tho, constant services and no problems. Very happy with it.
Because the engines are chocolate
Literally, the clutch is dry too which is useless
And the gearbox
Engines are okay if you get the later revised version
@Chris not this engine. That's the initial 1 4 that burnt oil. 2010 onward okay
@Chris well I've had a 59 reg burnt loads of oil and 12 reg never missed a beat. I wouldnt believe too much what you read on here. Skoda actually fixed the issue for VW. The dsg box may not be great but personally never had an issue
Running 200bhp in my mk6 golf gt tsi, with same engine.
Get the timing chain done and regular services and they're fine.
Treat them like shit and the engine will fall apart 😂
Really underrated engines though as they're wicked.
Is this true bro? Im looking at getting one in a few weeks, 13 plate, all ive heard is bad things really so its putting me off but to me they look great
@@oGTizL from everything ive seen on these just make sure you get the CTHE engine code, not the CAVE which was famous for burning oil too quick and drinking fuel too fast? But a 13 plate would be a CTHE which should be fine
Sorry for late reply, I have the Cavd engine which is supposed to be the worst one but I've no problems.. Apart from the water pump packing up but that's a common fault.
Warm them up before booting it and letting sit a few minutes to cool down before turning it off.
Regular oil changes 6-7k, they are great engines.
I have a forge induction kit on mine and the supercharger whine and blow off sound from this is awesome.
@@dannycampbell1294 got one buddy now CTHE spot on, custom exhaust and superhcharger damepning taken off its mint bro
@@oGTizL im jealous, i had to trade in my Octavia VRS on a rapid to save some cash, looking towards the Fabia VRS now
Great car! Mine has 94,000 and still going strong. This is my 2nd car I bought after I turned 21. The insurance isn’t too bad on the Skoda as long you don’t get into trouble lol. I paid over £ 3,000 on insurance for my first car when I passed XD
Still have it?
Well I went and purchased one based on a couple of reviews including your review on 12 plate with the cave engine. Holy f£$king heck this car is a beast !! Great review
You posted this a while ago now. How did you get on?
How is it now?
So this is a 1.4 with a supercharger and a turbocharger and also did i mention this car has not just a turbocharger but also a supercharger and its a 1.4!
Nnnno....? You didnt mention that. xD
i curently have MK2 Rs late 2010 in combi variation CAVE engine and drove over 30 000 km without any problems. The car itself have now 126 000 km total. The car is really FAST.
because the MK1 is better
Faz VRS pd130 power
I owned a Revo mk1 vRS, was a great little car. Not anywhere near as fast as the mk2 though. But better economy and a shit ton more reliable even though my KKK turbo did let go on my MK1.
Mk 1 wa sa diesel if im correct, if so then yeah it would be more reliable as diesels go on forever
Second that 👍 i would have one of those now if they did a vrs mk1 with lecky windows in the back
I have a MK1.. But is the petrol 1.4mpi 68hp
It's a shame they didn't put this engine in the 1st gen Monte carlo as I think the monti carlo looks more sporty with the black trim. As for the diesel vrs, was a great little car, I got to test drive one and was really impressed, makes me wonder if Skoda got to hear about the impending doom on diesel engine cars, hence the very low price you can pick a series 1 fabia cars up for.
My mum has the mk 1 fabia vrs will last forever (133k miles and going strong always starts whether is -5 or 35 ) and get twice the mpg maybe not as much hp but can easily make more. And the pint about the oil with the mk 1s most of the tdi engines do but most of the time there thrashed about and that's probably why I check the oil regularly and hardly ever have to top up
I wonder how many people who have commented on one of these have actually owned one. Unfortunately they do have problems with oil consumption and the gearbox, no one can deny that. I had one for several years and it had real personality. It was quick, could be quite economical (it was released in 2010 so obviously more modern cars would have better economy). However, it is a great mix of power and economy and if you get a good one, it is a great car, and I loved mine.
I would have buyed one to replace my Mk2 Diesel Fabia, but apparrently they have a lot of issues with the engine (even on the revised version), it is apparently a matter of luck, either it will have absolutely no issues, or it will have a lot of issues.
So i'll just keep it and buy an Octavia RS later on.
The twin charge bit makes me more concerned about the reliability then excited for the boost
mine has 169.000 kilometers still runs great and I abused it for 2 years straight for a time.
Because the older VRS's had better engines ...
I had 1 did enjoy it got rid before any major problems. It consumed as much oil as fuel. But was a fun car to drive and could do 14.3 quarter mile with tuning box. More tuning available now including dsg remaps. Look for overboost and rtmg performance
Had one. Loved it. But spent most of its time in limp mode.
That 1.4 is GARBAGE and VAG don’t wanna know 1 second after the warranty expires. The fact no one buys them makes me happy.
Still driving the 2013 'estate' version. Pottering around town, only 26,000 miles on the clock and it's been perfect. Great car. Oil never a problem, but then see earlier I suppose.
Mk1 with 1.9TDi way better, especially with a tune
A mate of mine used to have a mapped mk1 1.9 TDI. Wicked little thing
Love owning my mk1 good car and fun to drive
@@CoffeeLuwakRatu a mapped MK1 I reckon would be quicker than the mk2 standard, similar bhp with alot more torque, and if you want you can bolt on a bigger turbo and go stupid power reliably unlike these mk2s
Just sold my Mk2 Vrs. Had it 5 years it had 93k on the clock. Only issue I had in those 5 years was a wire on one of the air flow sensors snapped (at the back of the engine bay) which was a bastard to diagnose. I also went through A LOT of oil as it was an earlier engine. It was a decent family car tbh. Handling wasn't great and the whole experience was a bit vanilla. I bought a Fiesta ST3 and they're like chalk and cheese. The ST is a great car. So much fun and more chuckability. The only thing I dont like about it is the boy racer image but I can live with that as its just so good.
1:18 in and he’s told us the same thing 3 times 🤭🥵
From what I remember, the engine and gear boxes are made from chocolate and aren’t as customisable as the 1.9PD130 found in the Mk1
For people saying because it's a skoda have absolutely no idea about cars. So skoda engines are terrible burn oil etc. So that must mean audi and vw and SEATs are terrible because they are the exact same. Skoda now are fantastic long term reliable cars. Will last almost 3x as long as most makes out there.
Is is turbo charged and super charged ? He makes no mention of this
The mk1 had some form of economy to go with the power/torque, and it was manual. The mk2 just doesn't tick all of the boxes. Bloody good fun to drive though (for an auto)
Adam Curtis DSG’s quicker than manual in every way and 400mpg from a full tank? Can’t complain.
@@mickm2oo5 I don't deny that the DSG is quicker, but as a drivers car it's missing the third pedal. And as for 400 miles to a tank, that's quite optimistic haha
I have one from new when the dealer was doing a vat free offer on them, every extra, bright green, black roof, black alloys, sat nav, heated seats etc for £14000 in 2013 and it is a fantastic car and been faultless for 6 years and 20k mileage got a custom sports exhaust on it and it sounds and drives great 220bhp with cthe engine and exhaust, not many cars can beat this from 0-30 mph.
220 bhp from a custom sports exhaust? You must at least have a remap surely??
Top quality timing chains
Just waiting for that 3rd cylinder to go out the exhaust pipe🤣👌
Just had 4 new pistons and rings on my (12) plate vrs (48k miles) 3rd cylinder/piston had a big crack running down the side 😤 replaced all 4 with the revised pistons now 😄
I've had mine since 2014, 14 plate 43k now on clock. No issues... yet been a good car. Same dark grey colour. Upsets a lot of people in golf gti's. It's a good laugh.
@Sarah Cool I do indeed, and you're not wrong. Apart from this video and maybe 1 for sale I haven't seen any others. Deffo a keeper for me
Sarah Cool I have 12 plate in black, black wheels, red stitching seats, digital climate control, Bluetooth, rear parking sensors. (CAVE ENGINE) 😔 4 new pistons and rings last week (48k) 😤 Did they ever come with a sunroof?option? Haven’t seen one yet?
Iv got a 2014 fabia vrs 210 brake it’s insane I love it
Reliable?
Luke Montana very
Tom Keeley you have the (CTHE) engine code which is revised and more reliable than the previous (CAVE) engines
Robo Cop yeah Iv heard about that too tbh
Tom Keeley Iv got the 2012 (cave) engine just had 4 new piston and rings at 48k gone through 8 different coil packs and plugs in 1 month (different brands) to try and stop the misfire. It really annoys the shit out me and my pocket lol
The same thing happened with the seat ibiza cupra tdi , because of the ambiental regulations they cannot put more the 1.9 diesel engine, so they use this 1.4 in both cars
Just over 100,000km and already on my third engine and second gearbox, that's why.
What year?
@@dt3963 late 2010. Skoda put in an remanufactured engine for engine number three, and it’s been the most reliable one so far.
It’s a 1.4 & dsg that’s why mate. If it was a 1.9 tdi or 1.6 tdi manual then you’d not be asking the question.
The 1.9tdi sport in the mk2 is spot on
Great video. Could a video be done on a Ibiza Cupra, 2012+? Would be another good one
Whats the name of the newer one you recommend? I can't find it.
It would have done so well if it didn't look a grannys shopping trolley.
Awesome review though, always good to get a bit of insight into other cars :)
Chocolate engines chocolate gearboxes and for the money there are more fun better looking better built cars around nobody wants one
Agreed shitty little 1.4 I can only imagine the expense when it goes wrong lol
My dad had one in its life it had 2 engines and 2 gearboxes I’m pretty sure the other one was on its way out aswell cause it used to stay in 5th and then hop straight to 7th
@@joshrodway4903 Yer da had 7 gears?
I had a mk2 fabia monte carlo 1.2 tsi, such a fun car and actually miss it
I had an 11 plate Fabia mk2 1.2 tsi auto, bought a rapid 16 plate, gave fabia mk2 to partner, bought partner a new 17 plate fabia mk 3 auto, got rid of rapid and took fabia mk2 back.
Why? I have 2 friends with MK2 RS, one have dsg damage and the other one engine damage.
For 7000€+ you do not risk so quickly.
They kept the engine for the Octavia if which they get most of their sales. People who like sleepers get these. If you want a normal hot hatch, get a fiesta st or corsa vxr. These blend in, its brilliant. They dont make them anymore as there wasnt an audience for them. Im keeping mine, Vrs badges removed.
It is twin charged, they charge you once when you buy it, and again when the timing chain stretches 🤪
no surprise there, the tensioners are shite and it's only a single chain lol
I owned a CAVE for 7 months. Fantastic car. So fast etc.
The oil issue was huge. Car had done 32k and would go through a litre of oil if you ragged it every 200 miles...
CTHE is another league and way more reliable.
Insurance wasn’t bad too! As it’s a Fabia 5 door 🙏🏻
Encouraging review I thought 👍🏻
When someone who loves cars but doesnt understand them.
Not true CTHE engine still burns oil more than stated in the owners handbook
Is it a good engine tho Paul? Ive heard its better than the CAVE version?
Good car had one but have problems with the cave engine and the later model has problems with gearbox and clutching so got rid of it due to costing me 7k for gearbox and clutch in mine which only had 40k on the clock and 14 plate
Mechatronic unit is prone to failing and then theres the timing chain issues that ive heard of those are the reasons i changed my mind on getting one
woody555kl timing chains never been an issue, Mech unit agreeably will set you back £1200 however that’s the same price on most Dsg boxes
I bought a polo gti with the same engine with 18k miles and....it needed a new engine after a month due to a misfire. Other than that it was a great car and couldnt fault it, felt much faster than it was
CTHE or CAVE?
Because the engines in these break down every week
because they got the design all wrong, its too tall unlike the mk1 which was a great car.
Bang on, the Mk1 was almost a timeless design and still looks pretty good even today. I think the guy that designed the MK1 then did Bentley's. MK2 was always too tall and never filled it's arches even with the largest alloys. Also, how hard would it be to hide your fucking wipers
You can buy an mk1 vrs for 1000 probably mapped and faster and maybe better on fuel
Its similar to the vw scirocco having the 1.4
Simple answer:
First version of the engine had problems
Also very little tunability
That being said would love one as a second car once my insurance goes down a bit.
The Octavia VRS is a better car , mor reliable too
@@christineayres5339 iv got a 65 late octavia vrs never had a problem and i kick its head in everday
Very little tuneability..... you obviously know nothing about cars
@@woody555kl I mean in comparison to other cars out there it competes with there's not much? I see very little aftermarket support for it since it's engine got a bad rep
@@cotsworldcarper5656 Yeah bruv i feel ya , i used to have the original VRS 150mph no problem , had to sell it sadly as when i lost my job 2 years back could no longer afford the high petrol and insurance costs, now driving a little clio diesel its like a snail in comparison lol
Can we have a "turbocharge" and "supercharge" counter
Also the only reason vag stopped using these engines in because of the supercharger prices per unit.
Not the 'unreliability' that most clueless people say.
Because they burn oil! There was a recall on them which required a full engine replacement!
I had the polo gti 1.4 and had nothing but trouble, drank oil for fun, miss firing and just a bad engine in general.
Such a shame as the idea sounds great it being twin charged as the supercharger sounded amazing in mine but it just didnt work out unfortunatly
CTHE or CAVE?
Dan B mines cave (48kmiles) 4 new piston and rings last week 😤! (12 plate) had a 2011 4 years prior with no problems at all apart from 1 coil pack (60kmiles)
How can you tell if its got the Cthe engine ot the other?
@Sarah Cool sound, thanks
After 2013 if got CTHTE engine code built to last it's polo GTi engine but it ended production in late 2015 end of fabia vrs MK2
Love the vrs monti Carlo
One because the engines are made of cheese and two because they are a skoda, not a polo or a seat. My mate has the older polo gti 1.4 twin charge, his is 250 brake and he'd never buy the skoda just for the badge which is a shame considering they're the same car
Samuel Gray Your mates fried, Skoda is one of the most reputable car manufacturers on the marked.
@@mickm2oo5 yeah I know it's just the name ain't it. Try telling people that tho I don't see the difference. Tbf I think the skoda looks better lol 😂
Samuel Gray mk2’s available in an estate/combi as well which make it look a bit more agressive rather than a little hatch
@@mickm2oo5 yeah true
So you don't shower after working out at the gym?
You nailed exactly why its not as popular as previous gen because even tho its got a the pocket rocket engine and box tunability is poor and its too big soft and floppy not what the old vrs was we understand because of laws they cant do the turbo diesel but that was small light tight and nippy in comparison !!!
The answer is that it is the “Cake” Fabia. This is the mark 2 version that was marketed with an advertising campaign that how sweet, literally, and how cute it was. This is fine but you cannot then try to market your car as a performance vehicle. The mark three version is more angular, looks good, and yet it has no VRS variant.
It’s a major screw up for Skoda as if you had a model like that it would look as good as it does but was level with a Golf GTI or an Audi. A1, it’s an amazing product. A thinking man’s alternative.
1.9 was made when diesel was the saviour of the internal combustion engine.
Post 2009 realisation came that diesels are just as bad as petrols. So 1.4 happened.
agree, every mk1 vrs that is saw was caked with black carbon on its rear. The emissions had to be bad.
I’m buying one with my redundancy next year, already looking at getting it mapped! It’s a little beast
Hahahahhaha sad man
They're slow as.....be getting done by family shite boxes
I recently part ex,d my polo gti it was a nice car but the twin charge engine even though it was the newer engine was unreliable and drunk oil all the time and it was so smooth it didn't even feel that fast so it got pretty boring
Before 2013 they all had problems, 13/14 plate cars are pretty pricey too
Wrong from 62 plates has the newer engine code.
Why didn’t they drop the 2.0 diesel lump in it ? Doesn’t make sense considering all the issues. Octavia RS has it so what was the problem ? The Mk 1 Fabia vRS was an amazing car but they crippled it after the 53 reg cars with a stupid close ratio gearbox which nobbled the top speed.
No way! I’d be driving on eggshells too much down to luck with these
I prefer the previous model, sharper lines that just looked better.
If it had the CR170 engine, this would be a brilliant car.
1.6 TDI 105 mapped to 150 would be rapid in this I had a Leon mapped to 150 and even it was pretty quick for what it was
Unfortunately that engine had alot of issues too.
They burned more oil than fuel
Coolant leaks
Rattling timing chains
DSG gearbox
Dropped in favour of 1.8T for later Polo GTI
What sort of engine has it got?
1.4 TSI / 180 HP
I owned a seat ibiza cupra boconegra. Same engine and gear box and had nothing but trouble with the engine. Not worth the trouble they bring. Swerve them aha.
It won so many awards did this engine and the 1.2 tsi.
Good family wagon judging by the baby seat in the back. Lol
I had one and recently traded it in and bought a 2018 BMW M240i. And for some reason I miss my little Skoda. It was fun and raw.
2:41 that fluff😫
Loved mine but engine blew after 25000 miles, shit internals
I bought one, with 33k miles, drove it for 2 months, 4 ppl broke into my house took my keys and i never saw it again
I also hated the driving position, they drink oil, and after 2 days i hated its looks
Bad owners. If you find a good one with full service history. A real banger. I beat the cr4p out of mine. And pure joy that little hatchback.
Engine> upgrade the coils and spark
Gearbox> remap to tvs or rtmg stage 2
Great videos! Quick question: Would you get the Skoda Fabia vRS or the BMW 135i M sport? Obviously very different cars but right off the top of your head, which would you pick?
The BMW for sure. The Fabia is a child's toy compared to a 135i. If insurance and fuel bills were a concern then I guess an Octavia Vrs would be a decent contender
@@psions555 bought a m135i. worth it (y)
Fabia. The amount of personalisation and modding on them things is ridiculous.
Needed a 2.0 lump in it why a 1.4 🤦♂️
What size engine again mate 🙄
Cos it’s a twin tarjed engine 0:18 lol
Dsg gearbox breaking can total the cost of the car
Xenon Games the gearbox is a serviceable item ie you need to service it every so often it’s a good gearbox when correctly maintened
My theory is it doesn't look like it will be fast. it's a great sleeper I personally like them but my mate don't because it doesn't look fast and looks like a granny mobile
Probably a stupid question would this be a good first car (I'd be 22)
Because nobody wants to own a skoda?
And also all the Vag brands!
Theres nothing wrong with skoda, theyre great cars
They really want my SKODA FABIA 1.9 TDI VRS SEIN BLUE
i got to 1:51 before realizing that the annoying music doesn't actually stop. And a 10 minute video to question what a split second Google search will answer (what most car people have known for years now anyway)? The engines are shit and break.
Yeah like many of the comments here I heard the engine is a ticking time bomb
Because they've read how weak the engines are lol
Hence why the smart people buy the Octavia VRS instead, 2 litre Turbocharged engine is straight out of the Golf GTI much more reliable and good for 200 thousand miles with no issues
OZZY ZIG it is not “straight out of a Golf GTI”... I mean, the engineering and the architecture of the engine is the same, but the quality not really... Skoda and Volkswagen have different quality standards. That’s why the difference in price.
@@aian9597 skoda use VW's engines and gearboxes, same with seat mate
Nathan FX the same as architecture and engineering... Skoda and Seat have higher percentage of failure compared to a VW, and a VW has higher percentage of failure compared to an Audi... you get what your paying for
Aian9597 a lot of the engines are built in the same factory, in the same way the engines have the same engine codes in a lot of cases... so if they have the same code, how are they more likely to break?
mk 2.5? the new ones look so much better then the original mk2
like a broken record stuck on repeat , supercharger turbocharger twin charged power
boring !.
My pal has a mk3 looks alot nicer but they've stopped making the vrs fabia
I do like them I just don’t think they look as aggressive as the mk1s
