This is a celebratory tribute to the first woman to graduate with a PhD in Theatre Arts from a Kenyan University. Dr Zippy Okoth is an actor, storyteller and a drama and film producer.
She is also a survivor of GBC but then, she has risen above what would have been dire circumstances, to become an inspiring phenomenon in the performing arts as well as in mentoring younger women against GBC and other personal predicaments.

There are some people that carry around their Performing Arts testimonials as files and a briefcase portfolio. Dr Zippy has chosen to breath life into hers, and to do so by defying all manner of personal and institutional odds. In a way, her story could be taken as a metaphor of Kenya’s Theatre & Film Performing Arts itself. It has evolved into the promising mini giant it is despite being at most times battered and at other times largely unfunded and unappreciated! It has risen by the sheer grit of its purveyors.
True, Dr. Zippy is an icon!
