King and the Dragonflies and Ghost are so good!! I really want to pick up both of the short story collections you mentioned. I think my favorite new Black author I've read recently is Mimi Grace, who writes contemporary romance. I read Make a Scene a few months ago and really want to read all her romances now.
I love that you agree on the middle grade recommendations! And I hope you'll like the short story collections 🤎 Make a scene is on my list of romances to get to at some point ^.^
I love what a broad readership you have recommendations for! Truly there’s something for everyone on this list (and a whole lot of something’s for me-my TBR cannot help but grow after one of your videos). Strongly seconding Such a Fun Age. It’s SO SO good. Not always a poetry person but Akwaeke Emezi if all people may be able to convince me, especially knowing the collection also has a religious bent, which I tend to enjoy. Only For the Holidays sounds magical, not only because the story sounds so sweet and lovely, but because I’d bet that when it’s warm outside, it could make you feel all snowy and cozy and christmassy, whereas during the winter season, I bet it warms you up like your heart is holding a seed of summer. Definitely added to my TBR ♥️ Fantastic recommendations as always, Olivia Savannah!!
Love that your TBR has grown as well. Akwaeke Emezi does the poetry so well and I absolutely recommend content warning everything. If you're unsure of poetry, I wonder what that might be like as an audiobook. Your description of only for the holidays was worded beautifully -- the author in you was showing 🤎
Loved this video and that you gave so many different options for different readers. I might have bought some books....ooops Definitely Got Promise Boys and Such a Fun Age since those were on my list of books I wanted to read already. Only for the holidays....fake dating you said? Yes please
Before You Suffocate Your Fool Self was a good read. I have owned that book for a couple of years. I would like to read The Office of Historical Corrections by Danielle Evans
I read You Can Do Anything Tyrone I had picked it up at Christmas because it was by Lenny Henry thinking it would be fun with his sense of humour. Read it in January and enjoyed it. I always pass picture books onto .you challenge at work for her son . I also have the list on my TBR .
I'm glad you enjoyed you can do anything tyrone as well! And lovely that you pass them along to someone who can share them with their son 🤎 Enjoy the list!
Do you Dream of Terra-Two, None of the Above and Just Saying are on my tbr! And Long Walk to Freedom is one you know I love 😍 I'm so glad you enjoyed it too!
I REALLY want to read Just Sayin’. I listened to an interview with her & Paterson Joseph at the back of The Secrets Diaries of Charles Ignatius Sancho, was very interesting. Highly recommend that book too. My favourite book of last year was Someday Maybe by Onyi Nwabineli but you know that already 😂❤
I think you're really going to enjoy just sayin'! Ooh, I still need to read the secret diaries of ignacious sancho and it is one I am looking forward to. I added someday maybe to my wishlist after you've been recommending it so much 🤎
I'm more of a fantasy and sci-fi reader. I have some of N.K. Jemisin's books and one from Tomi Adeyemi, but I haven't gotten around to reading them yet. There doesn't seem to be as many writing in the Fantasy/sci-fi genre, either that or Google just doesn't know where to find the lists, or a list hasn't been made.... I can find a some books, but not many authors.
Afrofuturism is a major genre, all sci-fi and fantasy, and there are so many great authors aside from N.K. Jemisin and Tomi Adeyemi! (Although they are both fantastic). Have you read any Octavia E. Butler, Tochi Onyebuchi, Nalo Hopkinson or Nnedi Okorafor? I also have a video where I haul in some afrofuturism books and another where I talk about afrofuturism generally in terms of analysis as well, in case they could interest you! czcams.com/video/fStM_Rai6qA/video.html czcams.com/video/_uAMFDzf5DU/video.htmlsi=Az2_cA24_waGDm70
@@OliviasCatastrophe I haven't heard of that term before, but using it comes up with a lot more search results in Google. I think I have seen some Octavia E. Butler's books around in bookshops before, but none of the others.
I don't think there is anything I can recommend to you, you probably have read all the ones that i can recommend. 😅 But to others i would recommend Kindred by Octavia E. Butler, one of my all time fave books and also Talia Hibbert Brown Sisters trilogy is great.
I like autobiographies buy black authors when I was 17 years of age I met Malcolm x if you saw the movie that was a scene in the movie when the man hit another man over the head with a whiskey bottle I used to go to that bar that is where I met Malcolm x I am from New York City that was in the late'60s the bar isn't there it had a fire 🔥 and was destroyed
Great video. I found 3 books I want to read. Thank you.
Glad you could find some books for you 🤎
King and the Dragonflies seems so good 🥺 Promise Boys sounds like it slaps and the red on the cover is gorgeous.
Recommend them both! Such good books ✨

Africa Risen A New Era Speculative Fiction

Great recommendations. I will look for that kacen Callander book on Saturday in London. You know I recommend Kaylan baryons books.
Ooh yes, I definitely recommend the kacen callender for sure! Felix ever after is so good especially.
The List is on my TBR! I love You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty. Have you read Little Rot yet? I'm excited to check that one out.
I hope you enjoy the list! I haven't read little rot yet but it's waiting for me on my shelf and I'm excited 😍

I think it's okay to read books by people of color as long as it has a message
I don't think it needs to have a message really! Especially because books that aren't by POC don't need to have a message
