    As I begin to write this there are 121 "thumbs ups" and 1 "thumbs down". How in the world could anyone give this a thumbs down??!! A seriously fantastic machine - home built or not - and a marvelously edited video to go with it!! I can't even imagine how long it must have taken to edit this video. I'm thinking it took longer to edit than the actual build time not counting having to set up for camera shots, lighting, etc. You really like to "punish" yourself, don't you? ;) Thanks for the time spent and the video, Kevin. Absolutely the best home built machine I've seen on CZcams yet!

    • @krtwood
      @krtwood  Před 6 lety +1

      Thank you! The editing wasn't too bad because I already had all the clips trimmed down from doing the series. But I was up til 5:30 this morning getting it all finalized. I'm not a morning person, but that's a bit late even for me ;) As for the thumbs down, I am happy that one guy who has been waiting for 7 months to get to dislike a video of mine in the first 15 minutes finally got to do his thing again.

    And just to dredge up a debate we were having on another video... All those wheels and pulleys you cut seem to make another good case for purposeful, parametric CNC design software in the professional shop. As does Matthias's gear generator serve him well, come to think of it. Though you might draw a fair distinction between designing mechanical parts and designing assembled projects. Anyway, look forward to your next thing, cheers :)

    • @krtwood

  • @Wordsnwood
    @Wordsnwood Před 6 lety

    Sorry, I need to calm down a little....
    You've built quite the beast there, Kevin. Wow. Do you miss the oscillating action on the spindle sander at all?

    • @krtwood
      @krtwood  Před 6 lety

      The spindle sander part is the least effective, but not because it doesn't oscillate. It's just spinning too slow because the shaft is slowed down for the big roller. What I did was sand from both edges on my other spindle sander so I just had a little strip in the middle to deal with on the ESC. I find with the oscillation and rough grits it just leaves this wavy pattern on the piece instead of straight lines, which isn't really any better. But it does seem a little bad if you are sanding something really thin and you have a lot to do that you are going to wear out that part of the sleeve really fast. For me it's not going to replace having another spindle sander. Mine is on its last legs and I'll be replacing it rather than get rid of it. Hopefully most of the time I can get away with leaving a 1" on the other one and not have to switch sizes on either most of the time.

    AWESOME sander. How much would it cost to get you to make another for sale to an interested purchaser? Also, where do you get those big-a$$ belts for it? I so wish I could hire you to replicate that beauty for my shop. But alas, I am one broke, disabled, unemployed, veteran that is a full time student studying to be a math teacher. So not in the budget personally. I think I might could build one after I am gainfully employed again, but would need the tool to make the tool as my accuracy with wood is ridiculously bad as I am a beginner who has yet to build the skills, and rarely am able to find time to get into my shop with my school schedule.

    • @krtwood
      @krtwood  Před 6 lety +1

      I don't think I would build another one for anything less than a ridiculous amount of money as I want to move on to actually using it. Keep on doing what you can and the skills will come along.

      Other than the dust collection, all of the woodworking is pretty straightforward. The only machining was to add a keyway to the drive slot.
